The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / It is really SAD
« on: May 14, 2007, 06:07:17 PM »
It is really sad to me that parents of HLA kids can be so foolish to not listen to credible people about what has happened to them while their children were at HLA. Denial is a powerful thing!

Look at this information below on the NATSAP website. First of all Billy Pichon is not there anymore. They have moved one of the Directors of Counseling into the Director of Admissions jobs since all admission staff left HLA. Also, they say that the staff chaplain provides ample opportunity for spiritual development. Kids are not all allowed to go to church services. They only let a certain number of students attend church and only if they are chosen to go by the Spiritual advisor. They also say that students participate in all these sports, yet they do not tell you that students on academic restrictions are not allowed to participate in sports or off campus activities. If you have a student at HLA that has learning differences, and is on the academic incomplete list, just know that they will not be allowed to play any team sports or attend any off campus trips etc. It all sounds good, but don't fall for everything you read. Read the posting below on the NATSAP website.

Hidden Lake Academy (HLA), located on a 215-acre campus one hour north of Atlanta, helps young people make significant gains in emotional maturity and academic achievement. Integral to the HLA program is an equal emphasis on the college-preparatory academic curriculum and sudent's therapeutic work. The Hidden Lake Academy staff cooperate to help students develop all aspects of their lives: physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual. The 10:1 student to teacher ratio ensures individual attention and a return to academic success.

Typical students exhibit oppositional-defiant behavior, low self-esteem, depression, ADHD, deteriorating family relationships, and are making poor choices. Students typically graduate Hidden Lake Academy's therapeutic program with a greatly increased ability and motivation to make decisions that will positively impact their lives.

Hidden Lake Academy utilizes a detailed, sequential therapeutic program which allows for a high degree of program accountability. Each group consists of 14 students and is led by 2 Master's-level counselors. Students participate in three group counseling sessions per week (7 hours). In addition to group therapy, an addictions education course, planned and staffed by specialists in this field, is included in each student's experience. A wilderness component-consisting of a series of exciting and challenging experiences including day hikes, adventure trips, rock climbing and rappelling days, a ropes course, and canoeing is carefully integrated into a program. A staff chaplain provides ample opportunities for spiritual development for students of all faiths and coordinates extensive community services projects and numerous off-campus trips. HLA competes in the Atlanta Athletic Conference. Studens participate in basketball, volleyball, baseball, soccer, wrestling, tennis, softball, golf and track. Sports are balanced by strong Drama and Fine Arts Departments.

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / Parents-Please read
« on: May 10, 2007, 08:23:29 AM »
Anyone out there as far as parents of HLA students that have read the complaint which is a petition for a lawsuit against HLA, do you think these parents are lying about HLA? Read all the complaints and see if you have not experienced every one of those problems yourself. You better get your head out of the sand and get informed about what is and is not the truth at HLA.  You read the complaint and see what you think is right and wrong.

Would any former staff of HLA like to tell the truth about what is going on at HLA right now? You know you can speak anonymously here. I know that we would all like to hear how you feel about the status of HLA right now and how you were treated as an employee since the petition for the lawsuit was filed. Feel free to PM me with anything if you would rather talk that way. Is there anybody brave enough to tell the truth out there?

6
Does anyone know who the top Ed Consultant for HLA is? If the judge were to allow this lawsuit to proceed, does anyone know if the Educational Consultants will be called to testify in regards to what all they knew when they were still sending children to HLA? I would think that educational consultants would be worried about the reputation of HLA now.

Look under the Subject titled 30 DAYS AND COUNTING and read Buccellato's email sent out to HLA parents Wednesday 04/25/07. Whatcha think about that?

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / IT'S TIME
« on: April 19, 2007, 01:07:05 PM »
It's time Len to do the right thing. It is not fair and right to keep HLA open and bill for June 2007 tuition when there is not enough staff there to provide the supervision and education that parents are paying right at $6,000 a month for. Some of your staff members are even admitting to your students in confidence that they know that HLA is in big trouble and will more than likely be closing soon. Why not accept the reality that HLA cannot recover at this point and call a spade a spade.  Please consider that it is time to accept that the damage has been done and there is no way to recover at this point. The families would appreciate your honesty when they are taking out 2nd mortgages just to pay for tuition. Please Please do the right thing.

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / May 2007 Exodus
« on: April 18, 2007, 09:53:36 AM »
Does HLA have any clue how many parents are going to be pulling their children out of there after the May exams? A couple of big Peer groups are to graduate in May and a bunch of other parents are going to be taking their children out then also. It is going to be a mass exodus I believe.

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / How much longer?
« on: April 17, 2007, 08:40:13 AM »
How much longer can HLA continue hanging on by a thread? Since HLA told the Judge back on 02-01-07 that they might not even survive the 2 months that the plantiff's were asking for back then to come up with further evidence for the lawsuit. They seem to have passed that timeline and are still functioning. What is up with that?

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / Counselor-MATT KLEIN
« on: April 16, 2007, 06:19:46 PM »
Anyone lucky enough to have had Matt Klein as their child's counselor at HLA are very lucky. There is so much wrong with HLA including some shady staff members who should not be in their positions, but anybody lucky enough to have Matt Klein work with their child is very LUCKY.

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / Restrictions
« on: April 13, 2007, 02:55:16 PM »
Some of those things about restrictions that I read on here about  kids being made to pick up goose poop with their bare hands made me actually laugh. I would love to see what would happen if any staff at HLA ever tried to make my child pick up goose poop by hand. That staff member would be eating that goose poop for dinner courtesy of my kid! That mental picture actually gave me a chuckle. That never happened when my kid was there. I think HLA does a lot of things wrong and still do, but the goose poop thing does not happen now for sure. Did that really ever happen?

Did the Judge rule to allow the class certification or deny it? Sounds like he did not dismiss the suit. Can anyone update me on the last ruling around 04/02/07?

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / Dan Mansfield

I heard that Dan Mansfield gave his 2 week notice that he is leaving HLA.

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / Court Ruling Soon
« on: March 27, 2007, 07:49:53 AM »
I heard that the Judge is supposed to make the final ruling on whether or not to allow class certification of this lawsuit either this week or next week. I have heard through a reliable source that HLA thinks that the Judge will  will not certify this class action suit.

If the class action suit is not certified, can HLA get loans to recover and stay in business is the question? With several peer groups to graduate in May, I do not see how they could recover losing that many more students. Just my opinion.
