Most of this thread I ignore completely.  I just happen to find what you did mildly amusing.

Why amusing?  I am trying to organize some data so that people can access it.  Thought I would throw it up on Fornits so others could contribute and add names as they come across them.  I Just asked Ginger if she had any suggestion on where I could place the data for safe keeping and so it can be retrieved.  Not looking to create a relational database or anything.. any suggestions?

No need for anything fancy.  Just use an excel spreadsheet. If it ever gets too big you can easily import the records into SQL.  Let's hope that doesn't happen.  They aren't just numbers and names.  Keep a backup.  Preferably non-local.  An ftp server someplace will do.  That's what I use for critical stuff.

Front end was ...  *teeth grinding* VB.  I might have used access if it was something simple but for reasons i cannot bla bla because of the hush hush, we needed something more flexible and lightweight.  I ended up generating reports using CrystalReports though.  I'm not much of a Microsoft person normally (which is a good part of why i hated that job).  It was government subcontracting and we had to use what "the customer"(popular euphemism around DC) was using.

I'm not sure how popular my database was with the users though...  I had a micromanaging boss who used to insist I make detailed changes to data fields when he had no clue what he was doing at all.  I ended up having a fake frontend (and even reports) for him, and a real one for everybody else.  Kind of like a crib toy for an anal-retentive ex-army boss.  Nobody could understand the data the way he wanted it presented... and his sense of design was...  Typical army.  It was sad, he was losing his memory (Alzheimer's probably).  He needed to have a "function".  He was the working type.  He would ask me to change something one way, and then the next minute yell at me and tell me to change it back.  He would forget what he had told you 5 minutes previously.  It got progressively worse and worse.  Eventually he retired... he kind of had to.  He was one huge spanner in the works...  left a trail of damage behind him...  The fucked up thing is he didn't realize he had memory problems... everybody knew it.  Everybody went to his boss and practically begged him to say something to him... to get him help as much as to get him of our backs...  Things ran sooooo smoothly after he retired...

Thanks, Psy, for the advice?.

We have mostly SQL server.  We have a couple of places that utilize Oracle.  I usually like to have an MSAccess front end for report viewing /printing.  Ha,Ha,  I don?t know if you were referring to me, as milk insinuated, but I use to interface directly with our programmers and found I was wasting a lot of their time.  I use one person now that I explain my needs to and they interface with MIS and it works out for all of us.

Yes, I found one to be ruled a Homicide (Thanks) and made the changes, the other 3 were not initially ruled a homicide and I couldn?t find any follow-up articles, I will keep looking.  Do you think it makes sense to add a category Called ?Restraint?.  So these can be tracked separately?  It appears this may become a main category.

I'm of the philosphy that just because these people got away with murder doesnt change the fact that they still murdered a kid.

Until that matter is settled I believe that a restraint category is in order. "Other" is just too ambigious.
