Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / The Truth About Kathy Rowe
« on: August 21, 2003, 06:11:00 PM »
Well folks, speaking as the survivor that I am all these years later AND considering the straight inc people are still at it, even after being closed so many years ago, I would put NOTHING past Pathway or any other straight inc program out there.
Look at SAFE, Rumor has it that the staff outnumbers the clients and to top it off... SAFE is answering phones for the people that are raising $1 million in ONE FRIGGIN NIGHT!!!! Come on, wake up all you all, jeez, is Pathway going to do that? I'd be willing to bet that Pathway is in on this fundraiser in FL too, but, that is pure speculation on my part, so don't get all legal bullcrappy with me, please :smokin:

Hello Sinister, in my experience, my parents were willing to help me stop using drugs, since I was 21 and had made a choice to get help. The local pastor referred them to a detox place where I spent about 45 days. It was almost double the normal time, but, either way, that place recommended I go to straight, inc. Aw jeez, that was screwed up. You see, the straight marketing people targeted white middle and upper class families at churches, schools, detox centers, etc. I was like a ripe fruit ready to pick I suppose. That was in early 1983 AFTER the lawsuit, but, of course the program directors never mentioned that the program had just gotten in trouble. But anyway, I do not think most people were court ordered. They were forced by their parents or guardians to go. I know of at least one intake that was claimed to be court ordered, but 18 years later it was discovered that it was not. Them straight inc administrators idea of "treatment" totally screwed up so many people and their families. Some stayed with the program until it was shut down and changed names. I have not heard much from them on the net lately. I think most of them feel really guilty and want to forget it all ever happened. Either way, straight inc was a hellhole of epic proportions wherever it operated. Problem now is that it is STILL going. ARGH!!!!!! :smokin:

And... you have the perfect opportunity to start down there at the fundraiser that SAFE, DFAF, and Anchor Foundation are using to get even MORE money to continue their efforts to "treat" kids.
I would imagine that with all the people that will be there, at least one of them knows member of Congress fairly well and with a big enough show of support from survivors and concerned citizens, get the ball rolling even faster.

Yep, listing off all the drugs done too, that took a long time compared to most of the kids there. I suppose what triggers posting about this post so long ago is that there are still kids having that done to them right this minute.
People say, "get over" it well, my friends, foes, and any other people out there that read this, until that last program is CLOSED, there aint no "gettin over" it for me. The kids of today cannot "get over" it because they are still in these programs. Besides, for me, it is not an issue of "getting over" it. I was 21 when I went in, not a kid. It was much worse for kids, at least from my perspective having graduated from military school, I was a victim of hazing and that kind of bullshit. Regardless of that, in the program, I took a lickin and kept on tickin, 20 years later, I still take lickins and still keep on tickin! It has been mentioned a couple times before that there are people who wished there were others out there who would have come in and rescue them back then. Well, maybe now there is. Thank you to all the people who are making sure it happens and to all the people who  care!       ::cheers::

The Troubled Teen Industry / SAFE DFAF ANCHOR FOUNDATION PROTEST
« on: August 16, 2003, 09:52:00 AM »
Hi folks, this event in Orlando is gearing up to be a great opportunity to participate in a protest against child abuse "treatment" and send a message to the FL Governor at the same time!
There will be news coverage, radio coverage, you name it. Up to 5,000 people expected to attend, and most of them have no idea what the truth is behind these straight, inc based programs, the DFAF, and how the FL Governor has condoned and supported them all these years. The treatment modality in question has been proven to cause death, and overall destruction of many a family unit. Please do not be naive and fooled! For those of you who plan to attend, I guarantee it will be well worth the trip!
If anyone has a bullhorn, please bring it,  :smokin:

OK, well, I just called that number again, the one on the charityforcharities.org website, and it was "Barbara" at SAFE INC again. She gave me the number to the Director of the 911 event, Tim Linger, so I called and talked to him. He confirmed that SAFE INC was answering the phones for them. He said he was not aware that SAFE used to be straight, inc. He does now.

Thank you to the whoever it was that emailed Tim and gave him a heads up about SAFE. If he could hear from more of us, it can only help!

Right, If you are familiar with SAFE's history, and the Anchor Foundation, who is another benefactor of the event there, and couple that with the fact that they are expecting 5,000 people, what better way to spread the word?
I am hoping people will see what is really happening, you know, like the WHOLE PICTURE, and will venture up there to help hand out some info and be willing to explain to the people who want to listen that SAFE is only part of it. There are several other programs just like it still out there. I'll miss you, glad to know you'd go to SAFE anyway, but, this will be a much bigger audience. Maybe, with enough pressure from survivors and the legitimate participants, the SAFE and Anchor people will decline their invitation.

OK, you want to discredit what I have said, that's fine with me. Meanwhile, The lady (Barbara) at the other end of the phone line that rang after I, Metalgod8, personally called for directions... said that the charity for charities phone had been SWITCHED to the SAFE office there in Orlando, FL the city where this event is taking place.
I am assuming at this point that this anonymous person has NOT called that number and asked for directions.
In the meantime, we can have up to 99 people there at the place without a permit. We can have signs, but the people holding the signs have to stay on the sidewalk. People handing out flyers, info, etc... can assemble peacefully at the steps there in front of the Waterhouse building.

Please do not take what I said lightly. I know for a FACT that I called that number at the bottom of that website called charityforcharities.com which is the contact number for the event. The actual physical phone that rang was INSIDE the SAFE building. Call them and ask them where is the phone located, you will see. If they switched it, it is because of impending negative attention from survivors who will choose to make the trip up/down there. Do you all really want SAFE to benefit from this event? The goal is 1 MILLION Dollars.

PS, I have 3 comin so far from up here, anyone down there up for a PROTEST? I spoke with the management there at TD Waterhouse, so he knows we are coming.

CLay, and all you others who are concerned out here.
Dont't be fooled!
At least some of the information on that website is a FRONT! Call that number for the "Senior Foundation" and your call is answered at SAFE INC.

THIS EVENT MUST BE STOPPED!!!!!!

They are seeking $1 Million out of this event!
IT is not being advertised by the Hosting Venue there in Orlando either. Jeb Bush is supposed to attend, eventhough SAFE is being investigated. Stay tuned for more info about this developing situation.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / What is your definition of "sober"
« on: August 11, 2003, 12:58:00 PM »
theres a song out now, it says something like:

"why try to stay so ber when I feel like I'm dy ing, yeah,...."

Then later, something like:

"Everything's gonna be fine, yeah..."

I think being sober is not what straight says, that's for sure.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / SUICIDE
« on: August 11, 2003, 12:43:00 PM »
I am saddened to hear about this most unfortunate event. For people in the immediate family and for fellow clients that knew each other, I offer my sympathy.
I am also offering hope, that this program and it's modality will be forever banned. No children should ever be exposed to this type of treatment, EVER! I am very upset that more children are dying as this program marches on, like some kind of machine. While most of us cannot understand everything that goes on inside someone's head and why they chose to end their life, there is always a chance that something could have been done to help long before this happened.

In my opinion, I believe parents who seek treatment by companies that use this STRAIGHT, INC. modality should REFRAIN from doing so, and parents of children in programs using these methods should remove them NOW!  :smokin:

I remember camp where there was NO phone at all. LOL... That was the idea, send your kid off for a week or two during the summer and have no contact at all. Of course, that was actually a fun thing and I was only about 8 at the time anyway spending fun filled days with my friends from church or something.

I doubt if this D R A is anything like a summer camp. I noticed the tuition is a call in situation and not like the others where they say how much it will cost. Also, 24 hour assistance, but nobody in the contact area, hmm, well, more reading now, BBL...
