I had previously spoken well of Tom Burton while he represented me in Utah. The story doesn't end well with him and as he did with WWASPS and SAFE and another suit, he screwed up big time with me.  he took $10k from me while I had to hound him constantly and politely and rewrite everything he did. He was consistently late and out of touch. The piece de resistance was getting another $10k bill from him for doing less than nothing - he left me in a very messy situation regarding a TRO, notice for which I never received, and it is too late to do anything about at this point.

He's a menace to our community and I was suckered in by his superficial kindness.[ This Message was edited by: hurleygurley on 2005-09-16 20:55 ]

Can't find anything about Tom on this site. Did you?

Thanks.

I don't know the details of the Safe suit you referred to and thus can't comment on Tom's performance as a lawyer in this case. He HAS, in fact, won suits against WWASP (they may have been settlements) and definitely several settlements against Aspen. He is representing me right now and we've worked together for 3 months now making sure we're taking the best route for this case. I have found him to be gracious, intelligent, generous and careful. The outcome obviously is unknown as yet. I will keep you all posted. My only complaint about Tom, which is true of every lawyer I've worked with (as a paralegal) and as a consumer is that they are overcommitted and don't respond as quickly as one would like. He is charging me a very low rate and writing off many hours spent on research because this is not a boiler plate case and he feels morally committed to the cause. He has offered his home as refuge for my young friend, if need be. As a person, I cannot speak highly enough of him. We'll see soon what his lawyering will produce. I just had to throw this in because the SAFE description is absolutely contrary to my experience of Tom, especially trying to rip people off.

Sorry for misinformation. Well, that's a good bit of dirt on Aspen. Are there law suits out yet on ASR?

I am in the midst of a weird situation involving an Aspen program. I know Aspen doesn't run the worst of the programs. I call them the Enron of these places. WWASPS is like the mafia. I know that Aspen is big, big, money and getting bigger all the time, and while they APPEAR to be abusing kids the way WWASPS, Straights, Provo etc.. does, they still run primitive behavior mod, no contact, lockup, punitive, unprofesional, ripoffs. Unfortunately I don't read about parents or teens who've beeen to them. I know ASR is NOW owned by Aspen but it hasn't been for long. Anybody out there??? I'm collecting what I can and it's mostly dirt by implication. Any alumni, especially from Utah programs. I do know about Aspen Achievement. But what about ALL the others?

Discussion about the merits of screening for mental illness and the pros and cons of various drugs are beside the point regarding our president's lovely plan. The central issue, as the original post reads, is that this is a program pushed by drug companies which make the HIGHEST profit of any industry (after R&D) AND they, do, in fact, contribute massively to republican campaigns.

Check into it. Go to opensecret.org Google around. This is another horrific Bush scam.

Do we know any details about the "legislators" that Stettler referred to when he was "trying to get legislation through regarding escort services? I would like to familiarize myself with Utah legislators. Are any of them interested, sympathetic??? I'll do some digging on my own but if anyone knows about the inside of Utah politics, please share.

Thanks.
