Little did i know
« Reply #90 on: February 22, 2004, 02:32:00 PM »
my son is doing much better now.  i have learned alot since then and he has too.  when i was talking with him last week he said he wanted to get a part time job again and work in the summer, i told him that my sisters, who both have small children, would probably also need some help from him (he is good with children, patient as a saint!).  He said i know, i will help them, please when you call them tell them how much i have matured, tell them i am responsible now.  i said, oh honey, they know how hard you worked to make changes in yourself

i am glad i realized when i did that this program was in fact not going to be "the miracle we have been praying for"  "saving his life".  before the person who IS my son ceased to exist.  getting help for depression, the right medication (emphasis on the word right!), a good, understanding, educated, compasionate therapist, etc. etc. was REALLY the miracle were praying for.  (thank you dr. walrad, dr. michelle, and all of you that were on his side).  we have a ways to go but we are well on our way.

people cant understand how someone can do that to their child, hell, i thought i was paying for him to get "emotional growth", "structure", "loving and caring staff", HELP, that he was going to a "school" and blah blah blah, so on and so forther, all the typical BULLSHIT you become convinced that your hard fucking earned money is buying, you rationalize, you WANT to believe it but by God wishing something true doesnt make it true.
any parent waspers reading this, let me reiterate

wishing something true doesnt make it true.

do as a reagular poster suggested of any residential treatment program, investigate, visit often and unannounced, listen to your child

 :silly:

Can anyone tell me about IVY RIDGE and Spring Creek?  Your comments about the abuse frighten me, as I am considering sending my daughter to one of these schools.

Yes, call those parents, and also talk with teens who have graduated and their parents.  You decide who's being accountable and honest, or not.

First of all, thank you for your candor and straight-forwardness. I am glad 2 C that you are signing your initials instead of choosing to remain among the (at least seemingly) vast crowd of anons. It helps to know who who's saying what.

Ok..anyway..I know what program lingo is like, as I was is one, albeit long ago. I wanted you to state more of what your experience was like w/ ISAC rather than just saying "yeah, they seemed to be just like program people." That's a hell of a thing to say, considering that they're supposed to be about getting people *out* of these sorts of programs, not into them..so that was the question..

My thanks to your response in advance.

my reference to isac was for this person to call them, b/c isac has information regarding these schools and contacts with people who were there.

the last post was mine (WP).  no ISAC is NOT like program people.  I am not sure why any of my posts were interpreted that way.  I happen to like very much the people at isac, and so does my son.  sorry if my post was misunderstood.
