Anne,  Not too far off the mark (your first post)!  It appears to be an older account based on some of the bans and reflections.  They don?t use the term peer groups anymore.

I don't give a shit what they call it.  It's the same fucking thing I went through and it IS abusive.

Parents are welcome to come to visit, they can issue high school degrees I have been told.  They have added 2 or 3 more buildings since then a gym, swimming pool, new dorm I believe.

Well god I would HOPE so with the kind of dough they're raking in, but that's not what seems to be happening.

Yeah, we know.  Disgruntled, manipulative kids.  Just like the cutters and suicidals are thought of at ASR  We need to come up witha run-together for this crap, like deadinsaneorinjail.

The LifeSteps (LGATs) are ineffective, dangerous and damaging.  It's practicing psychology without a license.  The bans and reflections (sitting facing a wall for hours on end) are abusive.  Wrist holds are abusive.  Monitored phone calls with parents is an abuse of power.  The disregard for patient confidentiality when disclosing things kids said in session to parents is an abuse of power and unethical.

Wow, you know all this, but not the Directors' names?
What keeps you attached to ASR? Most parents 'move on'.

I tell ya, I am awful with names.

Let's just stop replying to him for a while. Try it & see how you like it. Silence doesn't necessarily implicate being WRONG or anything... "Being convinced I seek not to convince." E.A.P.

I will pretty soon, but I've got 2 psych students standing over my shoulder right now and they won't let me yet.  They say it's like watching a car wreck.  They're avid Myspacers and when they get back to college they're going to start talking about this with the other kids.  They can't believe this shit really goes on.

If all of what you said is true I would agree.  But they dont disclose patient confidentiality.  They dont practice psychology without a license.  They dont face walls for hours, Counselors dont catch the kids hanging themselves in closets.  They make calls in a big room with the counselors there.  They dont use any illegal holds.  Anyone can spin a story to make it seem worse than it is.  I am not saying it is all right or wrong.......
If 4 kids came out of Harvard and said the teachers catch students in the closets trying to hang themselves or make students stand in front of walls for hours, would we all rush to shut the institution down? no.  These are kids and we need to listen to their stories and take them seriously but we have to remember they are kids.

you know who you never did get around to answering my questions.
What specificaly is the therapeudic benefit of "bans" in the case of a wholesome friendship?
If mary Ellen was as bad a drug addict and anorexic as Dave marcus suggested how is Wilderness not at the very least risking doing physical harm?
Dave marcus suggested that some kids hear songs from the workshops years later and still cry. Do you think that this means that the school helped or harmed?

The reason I rarely come on Fornits anymore is that I invariably end up bitching out bad parents. As a parent myself, who was mentally ill already as a child and a teen--thus the quintessential "troubled teen", who has a mentally ill child, and a mentally ill teenage foster kid, it's hard to see that level of inexcusably irresponsible behavior and not rant.

And that's not the reason I come to Fornits.

When I (rarely) log on here, it's because this is the most consistent clearing house I've found for news in the private prisons for teens scandal.

The Who is obviously a bad parent, but I'm not here because of him or to get my jollies telling off bad parents.

I'd rather live my life.

So to those of you who have been reading my rants, I apologize for succumbing to the temptation yet again, and we now return you to your regularly scheduled whatever-it-is.

Its not efficient!!  They are in constant training, which drives up the costs.  Doctors that work in some tough Psyc wards can go thru the same fatigue and are rotated out.  As I mention, our welders coming and going.  It is an industry wide problem, which requires constant monitoring and training.  It?s a challenge but not cost effective.
If you had any suggestions I would like to hear them.  I could pass them along to our welding group.

Good Parents and Bad parents are the only 2 choices...Hmmm.  I think if my parents raised me better I would be a good parent, but it must have been my grandparents fault becasue they raised them wrong....wait a minute my greatgrand parents must have.....

I am so confused, does that mean my kids will be good parents or bad parents?

No its not, ask Niles.  A year or so ago I had some pretty bad analogies.  There was this discussion about isolation and I was trying to compare isolation to the witness protection program (to try to make a point of some type).  Not sure what I was thinking at the time but it was really a stretch in retrospect.

Why does no one else pick up on these? The man's sadism and wish to belittle is unbelievable, almost self-parodic.

They are kids, and one of the basic principles of morality is that you do not do this shit to kids.

We are not talking about doing anything to kids.  We are talking about stories that kids tell.  We need to be able to decipher fact from embellishment.  Some kids don?t have the skill to differentiate.  As responsible parents we need to do that for them.
