But what if you educate them, guide them and show them a better way?

That is called "parenting". PROGRAMS do not do that. PROGRAMS are institutions that use coersion and isolation by various means to make people act differently.

Yes they do!!  TBS's do exactly that !!  I know many kids first hand...
it works

Again, same argument.  HOW do they work?  By what process do they "work".  Yes, TBSs very often induce 'change' in kids.  READ MY SIGNATURE.

You say so, thats nice. That means nothing.

When fornits says a PROGRAM, we mean a coersion and isolation based program, be it at a institution or wilderness camp, Who.

Those places do not teach, they force.

What you define or what you think something to be, that is, your assertions, are meaningless.

You can say what you want and redefine the language all you want but that does not change anything.

If there is nothing going on in these places, per your own logic, why are we here, and why does fornits exist?

My father, and maybe even myself, would have sworn that to be the case with Straight for 5 years or more after I got out.  The "change" in me was miraculous.  I was a very different person than before I went in.

We just started speaking again a few months ago after over 6 years of estrangement due to the PTSD and other damage done by Straight.  EVerything, and I mean EVERYTHING I have read about ASR (including your own supportive posts about it) smacks of the exact same tactics and pressures that Straight used.  All of it.

How, specifics please, are these changes brought about?

Do they use LGAT-type seminars or raps?

Is there confrontational peer pressure?

Are kids frequently pressured to come up with "dirt" on themselves or others?

Don't bother.

He tried to spin "isolation" as a good thing by comparing it to the witness protection program.

Synanon... and ASR has the "added value" of CEDU methods.

Beat me to it Niles!

Who, if you've got enough dough to ship your kid off, then you've got enough to take some time off and actually PARENT your child.

Anne, you're missing something.  it takes not only time to parent your child, it takes effort.  People like TheWho care too much about what they themselves want and need to be bothered with the needs of their children.

They treat their kids like pets, not people.  When the puppy gets dirty and matted with long nails and stinky breath, they send it to the groomer.  When the puppy keeps barking, chewing and not listening and they get tired of it, they send it to obedience school.

Same way they handle their kids.  The same dough that gives them leisure time is the dough they pay the program to make sure their "me time" is not interrupted.  I've met quite literally hundreds of parents who not only feel this way, but actually verbally express it at their kid's intake!

Nah, I'm not missing it at all.  I lived it for damn near 25 years.  From what I can tell by his postings, he's very similar to my father.

No, I know you know it.  I just wanted to point it out to readers that these are some of the most selfish and self-righteous people on the planet - program parents.

Yes, yes, yes and yes, as expressed by former ASR staff and attendees.  Yes to all of your questions.
