I also own an old economy car which my moher gave to my wife and I, 91 Accord, 2 days ago I filled it up and it cost $34.00. Last summer $34.00 was around the price I paid to fill one of my pick up trucks, and it has 2 tanks. It usually costs $18.00 last year to fill the Honda.
I actually told my wife not to drive the Hummer anymore and just use the Honda for now on. She filled the Hummer the other day and it cost over $65.00. As far as filling my trucks, that is a write off for me because they are commercial vehicles, and what sucks even more 2 of them have to pull trailers.
As for my heavy machinery I use for digging foundations, they run on diesel, again, not break on diesel price. Back in 03 I was gonna buy a new pick up with a diesel engine in it, then I decided to go with 10 cylinder, don't bother even asking what kind of milege I get with it.
The diesel engines are great especially when towing. You get the same mileage towing as you do with no load but, oil changes consist of at least 11 qrts and cost over $65.00 depending on where you take it.
Every once and awhile I see a hybrid electric vehicle on the road and would laugh at the people driving them, but I guess they are laughing back at us now.
I don't know, if this is it, if this is the end for combustion, what are we to do? they gonna super duty electric hybrid pick up trucks? How abour hybrid excavatars? Man this really sucks.
If it keeps up, I'm gonna have to decide whether to make a bold descion for 2006 to all my existing costumers about raising the price of maintenace costs. I never raised my prices on any of them. Other companies do and they loose their customers.
Filling up 5 gallon gas tanks use to cost 5-7 bucks, now? It is over $14.00. I think this entire countrys economy needs an overhall. Mimium wage needs to be brought up to at least $10.00 an hour, everything needs to be overhauled period.
This situation is turning into and is worse then what it was like back in the 70's.
