Attorneys say investigation was misled

HILAND PARK — As a student, Jeremy Crunk hated it at Heritage Boys Academy.

But looking back, the 22-year-old U.S. Army sergeant believes the year he spent at the school changed his life for the better.

“I was just a mad kid,” Crunk said last week, a few days after law enforcement shut down the facility amid abuse allegations.

He was angry, Crunk said, because his father was away from home a lot because of work and other home life issues. He never got into any criminal trouble, but he often ran away from home. At 16, he still was considered a freshman in high school and was home schooled. If his mother had not placed him in Heritage, Crunk said he probably would have a criminal record.

“That place set me up for success,” Crunk said.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office and Florida’s Department of Children and Families removed 17 boys from the facility earlier this month, and investigators arrested 58-year-old Clayton C. “Buddy” Maynard, 20-year-old Russell Maynard and 40-year-old Robert Unger, charging each with one count of aggravated child abuse and five counts of child abuse. A fourth man, 22-year-old Marcus Kurbatoff, was arrested and charged with resisting an officer as authorities were arresting Maynard and Unger.

Investigators said the boys at Heritage have been beaten with sticks until they bled and that there was scarring and permanent marks on some of them. Authorities added that some students are believed to have been held down and choked. The school’s website, which has been offline since sometime after the arrests, promised that students will be treated with military-like discipline and will learn military drill instructions and formations along with Christian teaching.

Local attorney Waylon Graham is representing Russell Maynard; Jim Appleman represents Clayton Maynard. Both attorneys pointed out that the academy takes in the worst juvenile offenders, youths who are on their way to criminal careers and lives behind bars.

The school is “a last-ditch effort to save them,” Graham said. “Their motives were very pure. They wanted to try and help these kids.”

Appleman said the criminal investigation was misled by one student, who school officials describe as very troubled.

He and other students “basically lied and turned their backs on the people who were trying to help them the most,” Appleman added. “We’re going to prove that in a trial.”

Corporal punishment was supervised, documented and academy officials got blanket permission from each parent to use the punishment while their child was at the school, Graham said.

Records at the Sheriff’s Office showed the agency had investigated issues at the facility in the past. DCF officials said they also had looked into the academy several times but found no evidence of wrongdoing until the arrests June 4.

Student’s account

Crunk’s experience with Heritage began in 2004, when he awoke in his bed one morning to find himself surrounded by Heritage students and faculty. They had handcuffs and told him that he was coming with them. Crunk said he went quietly but added that if he had not been faced with overwhelming odds, he probably would have run.

Adults and other students watch the new students at the facility very closely to prevent escape attempts, Crunk said. He believes the reports of students being held down happened when children were attempting to run away.

“A lot of kids don’t want to be there,” Crunk said. “A lot of them would just fight.”

Students were given corporal punishment, Crunk said. It happened only when they refused to do chores, were disrespectful or attempted to run away.

“Pretty much you had to be not trying,” he added.

The adults explained that under Florida law they could give the students a total of five swats. The adults usually administered corporal punishment several hours after the incident, and they were always in control, Crunk said. The students were told to put on a pair of sweatpants and were then punished.

He described it as a “half-swing” that was “pretty firm.” It was hard enough to cause bruising, Crunk said, but the only time he saw anyone bleed was when a student put his hand between the stick and his backside. Crunk said there was little to do at the academy and described it repeatedly as being “locked down.”

He threw himself into his schoolwork, which was self-directed and Christian-based. As a 16-year-old freshman, he entered the academy a year behind, but by the time he left he was ahead. He graduated high school and entered college before his 18th birthday. He has two years of college and is still doing as much as he can while serving in the Army. Crunk said he hopes to one day work for the FBI as a hostage negotiator.

After a year in the facility, Crunk convinced his mother to come and get him. He was tired of being there and of not being able to talk to girls, he said.

“I was tired of being cooped up,” he added.

Hmmm, I am really curious as to how this one turns out. Everything seemed so cut-and-dried (in media reports and BCSO communiques) after the arrests. Now one defendant has a local darling of the legal community (Graham) serving in his defense, and the other is defended by the former state's attorney (Appleman).

There might be more here than what the sheriff believed when the arrests were made. If so, it would seem these two would have a defamation case against someone. If that turns out to be true I'm sure Graham and Appleman will have no trouble filing the lawsuits.

Well Jayhawk, isn't it funny that this kid is confirming all of the facts the Sheriff's Office has released. They show up at his house with handcuffs, force him to leave, beat him until he has bruises, and he said he saw bleeding from the bruising.

I don't see a whole lot of defamation when everyone seems to have the same story. Waylon and Jim will try to turn this on the kids, and their pasts, as opposed to what the case is really all about.

Hey zeldo1, you need to read that article again. You have mis quoted and mis represented what that young man said. First, please note that he was praising the school.
Then note that everything he said took place was legal and nothing in his statements suggest a Florida law was broken. You obviously have never dealt with rebellious people if you think using numbers to overwhelm someone is bad. That my friend is common sense.

Sounds like it was a successful program for Jeremy Crunk. HOWEVER, there are those that appear to have been abused at this facility. I am glad to hear that there was some positive stories coming from the boys home. BUT, I still do not condone the abuse of ANY child, troubled or not.
I don't see any defamation here either. The facts will be presented eventually.
When the child who left the facility was known to be missing, staff should have immediately reported the youth as missing to law enforcement and we wouldn't be where we are right now. Instead, it appears they sent a posse of other youth to bring the boy back. Just doesn't sound right.
Something smells bad about this place.

I hope they speak with the boys who spent time prior to this happening. Hopefully they will step forth. Sad to say though a few were brainwashed into believing getting beaten is acceptable. I hope they are investigating the families that live on that compound. What about all of those children. I know people that live there. Ive always said it is a cult. If it walks like a duck and quacks its a duck. Cult,

One thing to keep in mind might be that the boys that have never told the truth to anyone in their lives, and now that they are, the adults and some of you out there are not trusting what they are telling us.
I was born and raised here in the south and I got my fair share of whippings. But there is a BIG difference between that and what the home was allegedly doing to these trouble youth. Discipline in one thing and beating a child into submission is another!

BEIJING - China said Thursday it had broken up a gang of "hardcore terrorists" who plotted attacks in the western region of Xinjiang, which was hit by deadly ethnic violence last year.

Public Security Ministry spokesman Wu Heping said the attacks were planned for last year, after long-simmering tensions between Uighurs and majority Han Chinese migrants turned deadly in the regional capital Urumqi last July 5.

Nearly 200 people died in the violence Beijing accuses overseas organizers of plotting.

He said authorities had busted a gang of more than 10 "hardcore terrorists" linked to the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, a banned terrorist organization advocating independence for Xinjiang.

"The uncovering of this major terrorist group again proves that the ETIM and other terrorist organizations constitute the gravest terrorist threat that our nation faces at this present time and in the future," Wu said at a media briefing.

Wu said the gang had assembled bombs, pipe bombs and gasoline bombs, knives and other materials and had planned attacks in southern Xinjiang cities between July and October 2009. The plot was discovered, and the gang members fled, most to different parts of China and three abroad, Wu said.

Though he did not identify where the three fled, Wu said they were deported to China in December. That same month, Cambodia repatriated 20 Uighurs it said had illegally entered the country, touching off an international outcry.

During the briefing, several slides were displayed showing what appeared to be pipe bombs made from black powder and ball-bearings. Another showed a minivan and four-wheel drive vehicles allegedly used by the gang, while a third showed a kitchen-like room described as a bomb factory in Xinjiang.

No reason was given why the announcement was made now, but it comes just before the first anniversary of the unrest.

The rioting last July between Muslim Uighurs and members of China's Han majority was the worst communal violence to hit Xinjiang in more than a decade, but authorities have for decades battled a simmering rebellion. Uighurs' resentment has been fueled by what many see as Beijing's heavy-handed controls on religion and policies that favor the Han Chinese migrants flooding their traditional homeland.

Open Free for All / Man loses his arm in Boiler
« on: June 22, 2010, 08:34:42 PM »
BREAKING NEWS:  Lisa Flam/ Contributor AOL News
http://www.aolnews.com/nation/article/w ... e/19526058

(June 22) -- The Connecticut man who tried self-amputation after his arm got stuck in his boiler says he contemplated suicide during the two days he was trapped in his basement and attempted to say goodbye to his loved ones by writing a note in his own splattered blood.

In an interview broadcast today, Jonathan Metz, 31, described the terror and intense pain he felt, and said he considered using the blades he cut his arm with to end his life.

"About half way through this ordeal, you know, maybe that's the best way to get out of this terrible situation," Metz recalled thinking, during an interview broadcast today on NBC's "Today" show. "And that's really when some of the more important things in my life came to the forefront -- my family and friends.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

"I guess I came to the conclusion that it would be selfish -- that I had a lot to live for," said Metz, who is engaged.

Metz, who lost his arm in the accident earlier this month, took "Today" viewers on a tour of his basement.

After returning home from his financial services job at The Travelers on June 7, Metz went into the basement of his West Hartford home to clean the soot in the boiler, a job he was doing before his parents came to visit and a task he said should have taken 10 minutes.

He reached into the boiler to retrieve a tool he had dropped, and his left arm got stuck between the shoulder and elbow. He tried to pull his arm out, but the funnel-like fins of the boiler tightened their grasp.

'If I could maintain a cool head from the get-go, it's possible I could have gotten my arm out, but my knee-jerk reaction was yank, yank, yank," he told NBC.

He said panic isn't an adequate word to describe what he was feeling when he realized he was stuck. He saw dripping blood and his arm start to swell.

"Terror, I think, maybe would be a better word because I could see what was happening," he said.

With his arm stuck, Metz said, he could neither sit down nor stand up, leaving him in a position that prevented him from being able to rest and think clearly. "If I had been able to sit down and think things through, it certainly would have made the thought process more coherent."

He started to scream, and kept at it for "a combined 48 hours," he recalled. But, he noted that he had winterized a small basement window with caulk, making it airtight and soundproof. His cries for help grew more desperate.

"My first pleas for help were, 'I'm stuck. Somebody come in and come down and help me,'" he said. "When it became clear the arm was dying, that's when the pleas turned to, 'I'm dying down here. Somebody please help me.'''

He was confident that somebody would realize he was missing and that help would arrive. But after 12 hours, he could smell his rotting flesh, infection was taking over, and he decided the arm was dead.

He wondered "What would MacGyver do?" and looked around his basement, where he likes to make furniture, to see what could help him. But the saws and a drill were all out of reach. "That's the thought process -- something down here has to be able to save me," he said.

Metz said he spent six hours psyching himself up to cut his arm with blades from his nearby power tools.

"It started with prayer and thinking about the people that I'd be leaving behind, thinking about my dog upstairs who had also at that point gone three days without water," he said. "I thought about my parents visiting the next week and how traumatic it would be for them to come into the house and find this scene."

He made a tourniquet from his shirt, and though his arm went numb, he felt great pain.

"I would say about 90 percent of the cut was surprisingly pain-free," he said. "The pain was in having to look at it and see it and see what I was doing to myself.

"It really wasn't until I got to kind of the underside of the arm where the nerves are really concentrated where the pain became so ... I can't even describe the pain."

He said he was in shock and realized that, given how much blood he had lost, he couldn't finish the job.

"I was so convinced that I was going to die that I began actually, in the blood splattered on the boiler, trying to write a note to my family and my fiancee," he said.

While Metz spoke in a matter-of-fact manner, he got emotional when he described being unable to free himself.

Drifting in and out of consciousness, he recalled, he used his shoe to drink some dirty boiler water, which he said gave him a mental boost. Then he got back to work.

"After lapping some of that up I grabbed the blade and resumed cutting and got through the bone and got through most of the flesh and that's when I ran into a little bit of a problem, which was the bundle of nerves running under the underside of my arm.

"I tried cutting a little bit more, hit another nerve and again lightning bolt-like pain and that's when I just said, 'I can't do it. I can't finish this cut,'" Metz said, sounding close to tears.

Alone for the next 18 hours, he considered suicide. But by June 9, his friend went looking for him, and called authorities when Metz didn't answer the door. Crews freed him with heavy equipment and the amputation was completed.

"Before I knew it, we were zooming down the interstate on the way to the hospital," Metz said, and he looked up to see an EMT.

"I remember him looking down at me and saying 'Jon, it's going to be OK. We're bringing you to the hospital,'" he recalled. "I will never forget that. He was like an angel kind of looking down at me. It was really awesome."

Doctors said Metz's decision saved his life.

In the "Today" show interview, Metz went down to the basement, where the boiler had been replaced.

"There was a sense of relief," Metz said of the first time he went back there "seeing the boiler that had cost me my arm was totally, completely gone."

Doctors hope to fit Metz with a prosthetic arm by the end of the month. For now, he says he's learned a lot about himself.

"I don't know that I'd ever really admit it or believe it, but I did learn that I have more strength than I guess I would have thought."

Does anyone have any information or know anything about Hillside and their behavioral method of (DBT).

http://www.hside.org/
Hillside was founded in 1888 and is one of Atlanta's oldest organized charities. Today, we provide treatment services to children ages 7-17 who have severe emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges. Located in the Morningside neighborhood near Midtown Atlanta, Hillside is a licensed Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) and our programs include:

Intensive residential psychiatric treatment

Therapeutic Foster Care

Community-based family preservation services

Hillside’s primary form of therapy is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Implemented in 2005, DBT has proven to be extremely effective for kids in all three of our programs.

PROGRAMS
Therapeutic Foster Care

Hillside's Therapeutic Foster Care program works with children ages 5-17 who have had chaotic childhood experiences and little or no exposure to stable family environments.

Hillside does not have emergency receiving facilities.

Hillside foster families are selected through an assessment process that includes specialized training, home consultations, and an evaluation of the family's ability to work with children who have emotional, and sometimes, educational challenges.

Foster families receive continuous training related to the specific needs of the child. They are responsible for strengthening the child's self-confidence, modeling appropriate family roles, teaching responsible decision making, and helping the child learn skills necessary to live independently in the community.

Use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques is encouraged through an education program designed for foster parents' needs. The child, his foster family, and his birth family are assigned a DBT coach to learn new skills while participating in the DBT skills group. Individual DBT therapy sessions are also provided for the child.

A team approach is used to include the birth family, educators, foster family, family consultant, legal guardian, medical professionals, therapist and/or psychiatrist, CORE/MRO mental health providers, and most importantly, the child.

Pre-placement visits with the foster family ensure the child will make a successful transition. Hillside staff members coordinate appropriate educational placements, arrange for medical and psychiatric needs are met, provide 24-hour on-call support and case management, provide regular respite for child and foster family, and ensure each child has an aftercare plan.

Therapeutic Foster Care families must meet the following requirements:

At least 21 years old

Family commitment to be a part of the treatment team working with challenging children and adolescents

High School diploma or equivalent

Three favorable references

Automobile and car insurance

Financially stable

One adult who does not work outside the home

Complete 36 hours of training to begin

Criminal history check for all adult household members

No confirmed history of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment

All household members must pass a medical exam

A drug screening is required for all household members 18 and over

Extensive in-home interviews

Safe home with adequate space for the addition of a child

This program also has a need for families willing to provide occasional respite for children in our program. Contact Helen Arnold for more information.

Do not have adequate verbal/cognitive skills to benefit from the treatment program

Have a history of criminal behavior with no documented history of emotional problems

Eligibility for admission will be based on the above criteria regardless of race, creed, color, religion, sexual orientation, or national origin. Hillside does not discriminate against applicants who are diagnosed as having Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

PROGRAMS
Community Intervention

Hillside's Community Intervention Program provides intensive family-based treatment services to support families in crisis. These services may help prevent a child from out-of-home placement or to help reunify a family that has experienced the out-of-home placement of a child.

The services provided in this program help the child make a successful transition to a less restrictive environment and maintain the safety of all children in the home.

We are able to observe the child in the natural home setting and address specific behaviors. This allows us to better identify the strengths of the child and family so those behaviors can be encouraged. The entire family is involved in treatment goals.

In-home therapy teaches the child and family new skills to meet the family's needs and helps them develop new parenting skills and coping mechanisms. Keeping the child or children in their home can help prevent costly and disruptive out-of-home placements.

Hillside's Community Intervention Program provides the following services to families in need:

Assessments of the child and family members with emphasis on strengths, interests, and abilities. Referrals for special assessments are made as appropriate.

Crisis intervention to ensure that immediate treatment is received, crisis factors are identified, and new skills are taught to prevent future crises.

Skill development - teaching parenting, behavioral management, conflict resolution, anger management, etc.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is provided to children who engage in impulsive, aggressive, self-injuring, or suicidal behavior. The child and family are assigned a DBT coach to learn new skills while participating in individual and group DBT sessions.

Therapeutic staff are available 24 hours a day.

Therapy is provided in the family's home.

Identify appropriate community resources, advocacy, and assisting the family to access needed services.

Cases are managed closely to ensure that appointments are kept, treatment plans adhered to, and necessary services are obtained and coordinated

Lead family team meetings with all service providers.

Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) community monitoring for youth with a mental health diagnosis.

Contracts with Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR), Promoting Safe and Stable Families (PSSF), and Dekalb County Youth Matters Program.

Wow, Just the tip of the iceberg?

According to a draft report commissioned by the U.S. Department of Education, in compliance with the 2002 "No Child Left Behind" act signed into law by President Bush, between 6 percent and 10 percent of public school children across the country have been sexually abused or harassed by school employees and teachers.

Extrapolating data from the latter, she estimated roughly 290,000 students experienced some sort of physical sexual abuse by a school employee from a single decade—1991-2000. That compares with about five decades of cases of abusive priests.
Such figures led her to contend "the physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests."

Some of the most recent cases of school sexual abuse include the following:

•  In 2002, a California high school teacher ran off to Las Vegas with one of her 15-year-old students;
•  The same year, a Louisiana teacher was accused of having an affair with a 14-year-old student;
•  In the Bronx, one teacher was charged with the statutory rape of a 16-year-old former student;
•  In March, a 20-year-old Anderson, Ind. choir aide was charged with allegedly raping a 16-year-old female student—the two had a consensual relationship for three months before the girl asked to break it off;
•  A week earlier, an Indianapolis Public Schools substitute was caught having sex with a 15-year-old student in a vacant classroom;
•  A Washington state teacher was convicted of 10 counts of sexually exploiting minors by persuading them to pose nude for him—he then uploaded some of the images to a Web site;
•  Also in Washington, state officials say 159 coaches of girls sports have been fired or reprimanded over the last decade for sexual misconduct;
•  An investigation found more than 60 instances in the last four years of Texas high school and middle school coaches losing jobs as a result of allegations of sexual misconduct.

Internet Addictions break up marriages and strain friendships.Internet chat rooms cause social disorders in teens and adults.Online Affairs

"The Center for Online Addiction offers hope and valuable resources to those seeking treatment for Internet addiction. Internet addiction is a type of compulsive disorder and as an organization, we are specifically dedicated to helping people who suffer from this new form of addictive behavior."

Founded in 1995, the Center for Internet Addiction Recovery has been devoted to helping those who suffer from Internet addiction. The Internet has impacted the world and provided many benefits to its users. At the same time the Internet has had negative ramifications. Some people are preoccupied with using the Internet, are unable to control their use, and are jeopardizing employment and relationships. The concept of "Internet addiction" has been proposed as an explanation for this uncontrollable, damaging use of this technology. Symptoms are compared to the criteria used to diagnose other addictions and research has characterized Internet addiction as an impulse control disorder most comparable to pathological gambling because of overlapping criteria.

A Growing Epidemic

Studies on Internet addiction originated in the US by Dr. Kimberly Young, who presented the first research on Internet addiction in 1996 at the American Psychological Association’s annual conference held in Toronto in her paper “Internet Addiction: The Emergence of a New Disorder”. Since then, studies have documented Internet addiction in a growing number of countries such as Italy, Pakistan, Iran, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Reports also indicate that Internet addiction has become a serious public health concern in China, Korea, and Taiwan. Treatment centers have emerged across the US and abroad.

It is difficult to estimate how widespread the problem is. A nationwide study conducted by a team from Stanford University’s School of Medicine had estimated that nearly one in eight Americans suffer from at least one sign of problematic Internet use.

Internet addiction is now considered a serious disorder being considered for inclusion in the upcoming revision of the DSM-V.

Signs of Internet Addiction

Dr. Kimberly Young has likened Internet addiction to addictive syndromes similar to impulse-control disorders on the

    * Axis II: Personality disorders and mental retardation (although developmental disorders, such as Autism, were coded on Axis II in the previous edition, these disorders are now included on Axis I)
    * Axis III: Acute medical conditions and physical disorders
    * Axis IV: Psychosocial and environmental factors contributing to the disorder
    * Axis V: Global Assessment of Functioning or Children's Global Assessment Scale for children and teens under the age of 18

Common Axis I disorders include depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, phobias, and schizophrenia .
Common Axis II disorders include personality disorders: paranoid personality disorder, schizoid personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, histrionic personality disorder, avoidant personality disorder, dependent personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, and mental retardation.
Common Axis III disorders include brain injuries and other medical/physical disorders which may aggravate existing diseases or present symptoms similar to other disorders.

She developed the Internet Addiction Diagnostic Questionnaire (IADQ) to diagnose the disorder. Meeting five of the following symptoms were considered necessary to be diagnosed.

Elan School / Why are our posts being deleted!!!!!!
« on: May 29, 2010, 02:59:12 AM »
:shamrock:  :shamrock:

Where is the Girl/Van post that Anne Bonney created. The one that I said," Don't get your panties in a bunch", to Inculcate and I finally gave a reply to Anne concerning the girl.
Why are we deleting post from our forum, was anyone from Elan informed. Maybe they don't care (just because I do) but it still does not make it right what is going on here.

Listen I am/was from Elan and I know that we in some regards have gotten a "bad rap" here on fornits, most of which in my opinion is well deserved. I contributed greatly to the bullshit.
But.....Here is the thing, the admin and moderators have assumed so much control over our forum that they are forcing their personality onto us. Well I in particular do not want anothers personality nor do I want to be controlled. I would rather you just shut this down all together the Elan Forum and let it go then live another day like it is.
Ya kno folks we are the laughing stock of the whole web site they have a whole forum dedicated to us "The Drama" forum you need a pass word to sign in which they promptly display, is this to monitor you travels in and out. This is a fucking joke.
Here's another thought move the whole Elan Forum site over there, call it the original name and keep the pass word (which someone will have to explain), this is how stupid we are being portrayed here. They are patronizing us a idiots, oh that's right only some of the Elan people.
We have another problem we have moderators who don't belong there and nobody here from Elan either gets this or even cares anymore. Admin and moderators from other programs are running are show, i don't give a damn if their your best buddies and how much respect you have for them this is pathetic. I came here to fornits because we had a site run by Elan people, so we made a mistake/s so we just give up.
I am asking Elanians to please take back our forum and run it with respect. You folks will not let me do it....lol, fo sure. There is no one else from Elan that wants to moderate our site ?????? If not then I vote to shut it down or at least have a acknowledgment along side the forum stating that, "No Elan people have any thing to do with this site as far as operations" so when Elanians come they are not mislead into believing they are talking with someone from Elan. Many folks do that here on this Web Site I have found, it is called lying by omission. We have a moderator here on this forum who is not from a program or will not acknowledge to a member here from Elan (me) what program she is from so at least I know her bonifieds. I have asked her for almost a year now. Yes this is important and it is not vengeance.
In conclusion I am speaking for me I have not talked with anyone else about this, WHY??????? Because I am not on a friendly bases with anyone from Elan on this site and neither are most of you with each other. But this still doesn't mean we have to have other governing our site. Please help me get our forum back into our rightful place with Elan folks. You folks kick my ass everyday and rightly so alot of times well you have already demonstrated your energy/passion, translate it back into your forum.
I am not a part of this Elan Forum as it is if you folks reject what I have to say here, I can accept your decision but I will not accept others who did not go to Elan trying to moderate a experience they never lived.

Thank you

Danny

Death by heroin: Three stories from the heartland
Heroin is killing Americans in the most unlikely of places — the nation's rural areas and suburbs. As part of AP's look at the toll taken by a cheap and potent form of heroin, Amanda Henderson, Sue Tayon and John Roberts opened up about the losses of loved ones.
