Shareholder Activism and WWASP

Hi all,

Does anyone happen to know is WWASP is a publicly held or privately held company?

WWASP is totally evil and corrupt beyond all possibility of reform and needs to be shut down--I've fortunately never been stuck in one of its camps, but I've read Szalavitz' book and done some research--but this might be an added line of attack in the struggle against these abusive camps:

If WWASP is a publicly held corporation, this means that shareholder activists could invest in the corporation, and then attend the annual shareholders' meeting, present a resolution, and get a vote of the shareholders to reform WWASP on some aspect or other (for example, to require WWASP to open up facilities to human rights advocates who could investigate and report on abuses).  WWASP's website is so sleazy and vague I can't tell if it's a publicly held corporation, in which case it would be possible to invest in WWASP and try to make changes.  Most corporate websites tell you, but for some reason I can't tell about WWASP.  But I'm new at this...just a volunteer summer intern with this group...maybe I just don't know what I'm doing...(the group is an activist organization that engages in shareholder activism in corporations to promote human rights, environmental protection, and social justice issues)

Anyway, if anyone knows whether WWASP is publicly held, please let me know; I would be sooo grateful.

I also want to say how much I respect those of you who have had the courage and moral strength to speak out against these abusive camps; keep it up!

Peace,
Rosa L

wwasps is a privately held company wholly owned by the robrt browning lichfield limited family partnership.

Hey Rosa.
In your line of business you may well have resources the rest of us don't.
what kind of information can you access on a business?

Hi MightyAardvark and everyone,

Well, I'm new at this; I'm still in training and my experience before this is in social justice activism/community organizing on a number of issues, not in the business world...so I am learning as I go. (I shamefully admit that I have never even had an economics class.)

I do know that a great deal of information is easily available on publicly held corporations, such as the annual report, proxy statement, "10-K" form, etc.  These public documents would address how the company is doing financially and probably any lawsuits that it is facing. But when it comes to privately held corporations, I'm still not sure where to go.  I'm going to meet with a couple of people and try to find out, though.  I'm learning quickly--I've just started with the group and am reading voraciously--so I hope to be able to give you a better answer soon...for now, that's all the pitiful information I can offer...sorry

Also, I wonder if any of WWASP's various fronts--Adolescent Services Int'l, Teen Help, Help My Teen, Resource Realizations/Premier Education, and any others I haven't yet discovered--is publicly held.  Do you happen to know?  I searched some online databases of publicly held corporations--including the Securities and Exchange Commission site--but none of these WWASP's seemed to be listed as publicly held corporations.  I'm not sure what this proves though.

By the way, do you find out that WWASP is owned by the Lichfield family partnership by looking online?  Is there more info on this online?  I've done a search but so far haven't found very much that is helpful on this.

Anyway, I'll keep researching and let you know what I find out...I'll write in again soon

Peace,
Rosa L
