Seeking info on lockdown facilities in NY & MS
« on: November 23, 2004, 01:32:00 PM »
My very young relative (she is 15) was sent by her mom first to a lockdown in NY. But she was still having "behavior problems," so the facility suggested moving her either out of county (can't remember to which country! Maybe Jamaica ?) or to another facility in the south. First I thought I heard it was one state; now my mother tells me she is in a new place, in Mississippi.

I don't trust this girl's mother at ALL - in fact, I think she is the one with problems. And so I was shocked and extremely skeptical to hear about this lockdown treatment. The girl in question had been found with a joint in her coat pocket, talked back to/fought with her mom, and ditched school a few times. That was about it. She was sent away on the spot - came home from school and had only about 10 minutes to pack her suitcase. And then no one in our family was allowed to talk or write to her for months, not even her mother ....

I have been worrying that this is not a reputable treatment facility. I just know the state, not even the town in Mississippi. (My mom did say that, after she was finally allowed to talk to the girl, the name of the town in MS will show up on her phone record. I'm not sure how or when I can ask her about this - she is satisfied that our relative is in good hands and deserves everything they are doing to her there.)

Does anyone have any ideas for me where/how I could find out more information? Does this relationship between a NY facility and a MS facility ring any bells? Thanks in advance.

It could be WWASP.

WWASP has facilities in NY (Ivy Ridge Academy), Mississippi (Bethel Girls/Boys Academy), Jamaica (Tranquility Bay), and a lot of other places.

WWASP is also one of the most abusive treatment cults in existence today. Numberous complaint about abuse, inhumane treatment, and a "treatment" method that is closer to brainwashing than to any therapeutic process have been filed. WWASP is definitely the worst of the worst.

Ok, first of all, this forum isn't a referral agency for WWASPS, so kindly stick the source up your ass.

Second, well, just read the forum and ISAC about all of this.

These programs are a great way to get rid of a hated child, or a good way to soak up money from stupid, and/or scared parents.

Has she been actually evaluated by professionals for these supposed problems? Is ALL that mother listening to, is what someone who wants her money and her kid saying?

Do you think that mother would listen to anything any of us would have to say? If so, please try to contact her with some information.

At the VERY least, make her read *all* of http://www.askquestions.org/articles/teens

Make damn sure communication is not cut off, and the mother is willing to stand up for her kid and pull her out at any sign of trouble or if they isolate her from her kid.

But, now that I've re-read what you say, I either have to tell you its kind of hopeless unless you could get relatives to get through to her mother, and I wish you well, or you might be someone from a program fishing for people to sue.

My contact information is in my profile. There really isn't a damn thing that could be done if her mom is just that mean or manipulated into thinking this girl has to be there. All I could tell you is that when that girl gets out she's going to need a lot of therapy.

Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following
pages, are not yet sufficiently fashionable to procure them
general favor; a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong,
gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises
at first a formidable outcry in defence of custom.  But the
tumult soon subsides.  Time makes more converts than reason.

Stop spreading this WWASPie crap around, would you? I know it's a bit difficult for you, since you've been programmed to believe every and all kinds of crap WWASP has been telling you.

wwasprebuttal and The Source are WWASP propaganda, Gothgirl. You won't find any sort of "truth" or good information there except for a few programmed parents/children who are in way too deep to be able to think properly.

That issue of the Source has info on the boot camp in Mississippi - pretty sure that's why it was posted.

This secrecy is not a good sign.  If it isn't WWASP it will be something nearly as bad.

If she's a relative, you can collect information on the institution and sue for custody (if you're a legal adult), or could persuade other relatives who would look better to a judge to sue for custody.

At this point, if I were you, I would be very worried, too.

If it turns out to be WWASPS, you can and should get information about their slander suit against PURE and Sue Scheff that they recently *lost*, and the cases at Dundee Ranch in Costa Rica where the WWASPS school was closed by authorities appalled at the conditions, and Casa By The Sea in Mexico that was closed by authorities for immigration violations and on suspicion of abuse, and the case where some cousins of a kid sent to Tranquility Bay in Jamaica successfully sued for custody of their relative.

If it's WWASPS, there's a lot of information out there you could use to take in front of a family court judge if you wanted to pursue a custody case.

If you're a legal adult, it may be in your relative's best interests to pursue such a case even if you're in your 20's or early 30's.

There isn't any proof that those people are even involved in the seminars, and if they were that they said what they said.

Even if they were, thats like... one seminar worth. And yet again - they're trying to sell a product, the seminars are brainwashing, and I've still yet to have seen any changes in the programs or any demonstration of the kids getting therapy and not being abused.

Nothing is different and this rebuttal is a joke.

The time appears to me to have come when it is the duty of all to make their dissent from religion known.

I would like to thank everyone who replied to this post back when I first wrote it. I'm back with a little more information on the treatment center my relative is in.

From my mother, I found out that it is located in Petal, MS. This should make a definitive identification possible, no?

The girl's mom paid $37,000 to house her there for the year (which started at the beginning of last summer). She was not allowed to contact her for the first 3 or so months; now they talk on the phone twice a week. The girl is said (by my mom, who gets her information straight from the girl's mom) to be very happy there now (after her experience in the "stricter" (my mom's word) NY facility she was sent there from): playing soccer, even enjoying going to church three times a week. A girl she knew and liked in NY has now also turned up there. She has still begged her mom to let her come home, though.

They will spend Xmas together - the facility will let the girl out to go stay with her mom in her hotel room in MS. I thought that sounded promising, too.

I guess this is all I know. Can anyone give me a positive ID of this facility and some idea if it really is one of the questionable places I have been reading about? I'm not sure what to think now.

FTR, my young relative was *not* evaluated by professionals before being sent away. Her mom was advised by a hotline (possibly one with a religious affiliation, as I know she's something of a fundamentalist?) to send her daughter to the NY center. And that's just what she did - pronto.

TIA for your help.

It sounds like Bethel Girls Academy. Which is now a WWASP facility. Get that girl out of there as soon as possible.

Please contact me.  I will send you likes to many websites full of victims from Bethel Girls.  That place is horrible to young ladies.  The place was just raided in May, 2004 and al 38 girls removed due to abuse, neglect, medical neglect and maltreatment.
Horrible place and I don't believe that girl telling her Mom she loves it there.  The phone calls are monitored!!!!  The whole Fountain family clan now works there (gotta get rid of those rotten employees who turn them into the state for abuse).  BAD NEWS!!!!!!!  I will also furnish you a copy of the most recent lawsuit filed against Bethel.  The next one is getting ready to be filed.  There are girl's on the lawsuits also.  BAD NEWS!!!!!!!!
