It is important to note that physical restraint on the floor is taught only in the Advanced Program. It is not a part of the Intermediate program. The risk of death due to restraint, positional, or compression asphyxiation is very high when using a floor restraint technique. The General Accounting Office estimates that 150 people per year in the United States die as a result of inappropriate application of restraint on the floor.
