It is important to note that physical restraint on the floor is taught only in the Advanced Program. It is not a part of the Intermediate program. The risk of death due to restraint, positional, or compression asphyxiation is very high when using a floor restraint technique. The General Accounting Office estimates that 150 people per year in the United States die as a result of inappropriate application of restraint on the floor.

Search "deadly restraint"

You will see that many children have died as a result. Like a 60 pound 11 year old who was bodily restrained by a 300 pound aide for refusing to change seats at dinner. He died of asphyxiation.  There are many others.......This happens all of the time.  It is illegal.  See Title 42  - section 112...... It's against Federal Law.......

I really, really, really wish that everyone involved with this restraint BS would get a clue about it and actually realize what it is and what it can do to people.

Go to a damn Wrestling, Judo, Juu jutsu (jiu jitsu or however they spell it, its the same crap) or Mixed Martial arts school, and learn how to do it and how it is to be on the receiving end of it.

And if you don't think restraint can mentally mess you up with the psychological and emotional effects of it, go look at how bondage is used in BDSM.

Maybe One of the Kays or Lichfelds need to go to http://www.meninpain.com

Perhaps some sympathy for the victims (and actually knowing wtf you're doing when someone does actually flip out) would be created by that.

No, they do know about the harm done by these techniquies. I don't know the content of what they teach under each heading. But, clearly, they address in some way the dangers associated w/ these techniques.

Here's the thing, they think it's a worth the presumed benefit.

Most Program proponants will resist the idea that the Program amounts to brainwashing. However, if you can nail them down on the facts (and they don't go off in a huff) many of them will tell you that 'those kids' need a good brainwashing.
