Elder "Help" Industry/ Adult Protective Services

My mother gave me an article from a AARP magazine on the "Elder Help Industry". I found it online. Strikingly similar to the THI, with un/under educated, unregulated "guardians" appointed to handle elders affairs who have been deemed by the court to be "incompetent". Guardians or Conservators can select doctors they prefer for the elder and put the elder on a budget while charging hourly fees up to $300, $80/hr to review bank accounts, $850 billed for a social visit on a clients birthday; elders are being robbed of their freedom, dignity, and life savings.  This story is of a 93 yr old woman who fought back, proved she was "a person of unusually good judgment", yet regained only partial control over her assests. She's still paying the legal bills for that unnecessary legal battle. The court is "trying to err on the side of protecting people". Outrageous !!!

Interesting comment:
"Guardianship is a godsend and a gulag," says Erica Wood, associate staff director of the American Bar Association's Commission on Law and Aging. "It's a lifesaver and a life stopper. It's an institution that we as a society need. But we need to make it better."

Beware Adult Protective Services  :skull:

What a scam.

You know what they say... You can judge a country by the way they treat their children and elders. Perhaps that's why the US dropped to #6 in the UN Quality of Life Survey.

Have I mentioned lately how nice it is to be back in America? One of the saddest, and coldest, things about Florida were the retirement communities. Not just the under-funded, run down and dirty ones, either. Even the nice ones with manicured golf courses had an air of sterility and depression.

Just another sign of the times, I think. People don't want to take care of their families anymore.  They want to pay someone to do that for them, just like paying a plumber ::noway::

Age is mind over matter. If you don't mind...it doesn't matter!
