Thanks for the enlightening post.  Deborah's post was valuable and I agreed with 95%, I just think (and this is not self-serving at all) that taking money from WWASP scum sucks big time.

There has to be some concern over morality!

Anon, maybe in a perfect world. And really, you are not the only one concerned with the lack of morality.  Just imagine if these ed cons, program owners and operators, and the independent referral agents would not take money from desperate and/or misguided parents because it was morally wrong?  Instead of this being a multi-billion dollar and growing industry, many of these folks would be forced to close their doors for business.

Clarification:  Independent Referral Agents don't take money from desperate and/or misguided parents.  They take money from schools and programs in exchange for referring clients.

Is this moral or immoral?  I think the answer depends upon who you ask!

Yes, Deb rocks!  :nworthy:

What is most disturbing to me about ODD and other 'disorders' is that there is no real attempt to ascertain the environmental picture ? the social, political, and economic factors that drive a person's behavior.  We're asking the wrong questions ? we shouldn't be asking, 'does this kid have a disease called ODD?' but 'why is this kid so at odds with his or her society?'

Personally, I don't think anyone would have done what she did if they did not believe they could do so without fear of legal repercussions

Hmmm...interesting. Yes, the programs are evil. But why do we have to compare Carey's crime to the programs'? Kind of pointless in a way...

Well Frod, I think Anon has a good point. People think Carey was immoral to take money from WWASPS but everyday, some ed con or indendependent referral agent takes money from a program as payment for helping to facilitate the FORCED institutionalization of a minor without due-process.  By all accounts, this is unethical and immoral.  Kids have fundamental rights, including the right to depend upon adults not to exploit them under the guise of "fixing" them or "helping families heal".

Bottom line, everybody has their price and don't these program owners and operators know it!  Best to wait until all the facts comes out instead of speculating.  Trust me, the truth is stranger than fiction!!!
