Poem
« on: November 19, 2003, 08:10:00 PM »
The first drops fell to the
Bottom of a young shiny bucket
Unfamiliarly cold
Quickly forgotten

Innocent
Naive doses of chill
quelled quickly engulfed by
Warm surroundings

Time passed
Drops accumulated
The bucket aged and shined
A little less

It grew sturdy
Weighted down by the growing puddle
It weathered wind
It stood strong & taller somehow

Drops fell
And sun shined
Gradually some evaporated
Some remained

Time passed
Drops came & went
Rain fell occasionally,
Even hard

Now the bucket
Weathered heavy winds
Confident in its gravity
accustomed to the rain

Sunshine came and went
Gradually outweighed -
increasing bouts of rain
Rising levels

Finite space
Swelling with dancing drops
Confidence draining
Flood threatening

Sunshine couldn't keep up
Drops gathered
Hoarding precious space
Heavy

Strength faded to weakness
Inability to contain
To accommodate
Soo many drops

The foundation
around the bucket
Immobilized
Weakening

As the last drops fell
Bucket consumed
Varnished now
Not ready to be useless

Drops that followed
Sent others trickling down the edge
Making more room
Barely

Trickles seeped into that warm surrounding
Bringing a chill to the girl
The girl that was now a woman
Carrying a full bucket

But not ready to lose
The ability to hope
To love
To take on the rains
