Straw man
« on: May 27, 2010, 05:44:18 AM »
i notice that Suck It( what's in a name?) and others consistently use "Straw-man" as a tactic.
I wonder why? Then, they bury inquiry by inundating.
Wonder why? Wonder why they love program, and will hear nothin said against it?
Wonder Why? J.O.M.

The “Straw Man” argument is typical here on fornits.

For example if a person posted:
“Hi, I just graduated from ASR/XYZ program and it really straightened me out.  I am heading off to college in a few weeks.”

A typical response may be:
“Well, you might have been abused and not know it yet.  A staff member there used to work at CEDU which was known to be abusive.  I can send you some information on CEDU and why they were closed down…..”

So that is the “Straw Man”.  Since the poster cannot oppose the fact that ASR/XYZ helped this child they try to switch the topic to something else, like CEDU, and start to argue that point instead.  Its been used here for years and continues to be.

Don't hold back on your knowledge of "Straw Men", Troll king.  You're a conglomerate character.

Lou Reed's "Straw Man".  You're going straight to hell.

We who have so much to you who have so little
to you who don't have anything at all
We who have so much more than any one man does need
and you who don't have anything at all, ah
Does anybody need another million dollar movie
does anybody need another million dollar star
Does anybody need to be told over and over
spitting in the wind comes back at you twice as hard
Strawman, going straight to the devil
strawman, going straight to hell
Strawman, going straight to the devil
Strawman
strawman
Strawman
strawman, yes
Does anyone really need a billion dollar rocket
does anyone need a 60,000 dollars car
Does anyone need another president
or the sins of Swaggart parts 6, 7, 8 and 9, ah
Does anyone need yet another politician
caught with his pants down and money sticking in his hole
Does anyone need another racist preacher
spittin' in the wind can only do you harm, ooohhh
Strawman, going straight to the devil
strawman, going straight to hell
Strawman, going straight to the devil
Strawman
strawman
Strawman
strawman
Does anyone need another faulty shuttle
blasting off to the moon, Venus or Mars
Does anybody need another self-righteous rock singer
whose nose he says has led him straight to God
Does anyone need yet another blank skyscraper
if you're like me I'm sure a minor miracle will do
A flaming sword or maybe a gold ark floating up the Hudson
when you spit in the wind it comes right back at you
Strawman, going straight to the devil
Strawman, going straight to hell
Strawman, going to the devil
Strawman, strawman
strawman, ...., ah
Strawman
strawman

You can't ask me to explain the lyrics because I won't do it.

People who right like this.  In strange shaped paragraphs and horrible grammar.
In code. (generally aren't worth responding to)
It's a good sign they are retarded or crazy.
Take the time to learn how to speak english and people might respond to you.
This is strange paragraph. Wrote by crazy person. Is it haiku or response?
Nobody knows.
Crazy.

Manne, you really are dumb aren't you? Instead of explaining this to you like a five year old I'll let you read over this thread over and over until you finally understand it. But don't waste too much time, you probably want to get back to your great life of beaches and boating and fun and sun.

Interesting Strawman exchange, Whooter. But the truth is I know many people who were "scared straight and brainwashed" -including me to a lesser extent - who "looked good" when they left the program and said all the right things but were seriously disconnected from themselves.  And the effort put into denying that disconnect was exhaustive.  Just because you went to college and "look successful" doesn't mean anything. I look like your nice girl next door, in a very respectable profession, two beautiful boys, no addictions, pretty rational, etc. But I can't begin to tell you the YEARS of disconnect and social isolation I suffered in great part to CEDU's LGAT. I have met or spoken to many ex-CEDU-ites with the same experience.  For many of us, it takes YEARS and years to unravel the insidious aspects of it.

I knew the program was Twilight Zone when I entered it. But I could not admit to myself the extent of it.

I guess I'm being elliptical in what I am trying to say which is: Post program look goods mean nothing. I even know post grads who insist the program "saved" them but cannot manage in the real world because they are still beholden to the cult paradigm.

samara. A book that might help is wm. Sargents the physiology of brainwashing and conversion,
It might help to know that this is a physiologic process and that anyone can be broken. anyone can also be healed, too. Don't know what it'll take to heal you, but I know it can be done. Talking is a damned good start. ( waking up in a Texas jail or a Cambodian jail Is a start, too, but not so good, interesting as hell, but not so good)
Sooner or later, you're gonna be all right.
From animal medicine, know cardinal principals.
Joy and laughter are Cardinal Symptom of health. Pursue them.
Anger is also a cardinal Symptom of health. Pursue it. Corpseman will tell you that what they do is 'piss ;em off, then make 'em laugh, then they'll live That's just plain true.
I am sure that i have a peculiar point of view, because I am a Christian, and i did not come to that view by accident.
Here's what i know.
I will like you better, and you will like you better, when you are fierce and proud. You can be and will be. Won't be long. J.O.M.

Apparently, Karen you know little about the conflict.
i know two men who served with S.a.s Do you even know what that is?  the provo exercised their 'provisional right' to assume command. The 'forties men were marxists and betrayed their command.
