A WORD TO THE WISE
« on: August 10, 2003, 02:18:00 PM »
There is a cancer growing within this small but tightly woven group of PURE supporters. You can't see it but it's there silently (and very aggressively) eating away at what little shred of credibility this group has left.

To those who believe they are fighting the "good fight", put down your arms for a minute and take a good look around.

The enemy is YOU.

Yes, it appears this group and their self-serving agenda has done more harm than good as evident by the growing dissent within their own ranks.  Who can blame them for not wanting to get further hurt when this house-of-cards finally collapses?

What you WWASP people don't get is that most people on this board do not give a shit about PURE.  Some find the fact that they refer kids to other programs problematic; others say the work they are doing against WWASP outweighs that potential harm.

But most don't care either way.

They want to shut down WWASP and don't care who their allies are.  the enemy of my enemy is my friend, essentially.

***********************************
When I take a look around, this is what I see:

WWASP's treatment of children is abusive.
The fact that PURE might be acting from purely selfish motives does not negate that fact.
Any means to that end, WWASP's closure, is "good".

PURE is in the business of refering parents to  non-WWASP facilities for a fee.
Unfortunately, to date, that is not illegal.
Some or all of those facilities, may be equally, but covertly, as abusive.
Every facility is abusive if one considers being held against one's will without a court order, having contact with family severed, and isolated from the world to be abusive.

I personally have seen little, if any, intregrity exhibited by anyone associated with this industry.
They're all out to make a buck off desperate parents with "at-risk" teens.
Very difficult to be objective, there is an inherent conflict of interest when one's livlihood is dependent on placements.

If PURE is operating unethically, that should be addressed-given the nature of the industry, its very likely.
Proof of that would not, by any stretch of the imagination, prove that their claims against WWASP's abusiveness and fraudulent practices are invalid.

I certainly hope these two issues do not get confused.

So right or wrong is not an issue for you?  What you are saying is that you will just hook up with anyone who agrees with you?  What you are saying is that it does not matter to you, if they too, are doing something that is wrong.  All that you require is that they agree with you, even if they are doing what you don't agree with?

It doesnt seem like right or wrong, it is a fact WWASPS is the enemy that most here are fighting, with the exception of one of the posters that seems to have a personal vendetta against others.

I dont care what Pure does, and quite frankly, that subject is boring. No, I am not a Pure follower but I am anti-WWASPS. That is the point.

This is 2003 on planet Earth. Things are in a mess. Teens are being unjustly incarcerated and abused to the tune of billions per year. The leader in this Industry is under fire.

When it happens that two entities within the same industry go head to head, I'm more than ecstatic to lend my support the the lessor of the evils to bring about the demise of the other.

When it happens that a third party, inside or independent of the industry, takes action to bring down the lessor of those two evils, I will ecstatically lend my support there.

The world is not black and white. One does what one can. And if that means temporarily lending my voice to the lessor of two evils to bring down the giant and set a precedent, so be it.

You can choose to be morally rightous, and avoid the gray areas. Or you can jump in and support any action that ultimately has a worthy goal.
And, there is a third option. Sit on the sidelines with your moral judgments and watch. But, please keep your rightous belly-aching to yourself. The rest of us have work to do.

Deborah writes: "WWASP's treatment of children is abusive."

Deborah - in all respect, I ask you to PROVE IT! You yourself said you HAVE NO EXPERIENCE of WWASP schools. Are you not basing your judgment on what is written here or in newspapers?  Most, but not all posters are from PURE.  Others are posters using WWASP as an excuse for another parent or relative admitting their child without agreeing or signing the papers for the admission. The rest seem to be parents that believed their little darling when they said they were being abused.

I look for facts, not fiction.  From what I know there have been NO proven cases of abuse at a WWASP School in all the years they've been helping families.  Yes, Morava, Paradise Cove and Dundee Ranch closed.  Don't know about Morava, but Paradise Cove did not close because of abuse or the HEAT, they closed by their own choice.  Dundee closed temporarily, and from what I get from that, the former director who wrote the letter hasn't come forward to actually let the courts look at her allegations.  I honestly don't care if they open again.  From what I get, they were a thorn in WWASP's side from the beginning and unless something different happens, WWASP probably won't bring them back as one of their schools.

PURE isn't even close to being in the same league with WWASP.  What a joke!   You make them sound SO BIG AND BAD, but they're just a few unethical backstabbers pretending to be a WHOLE lot of people.  They're nothing to me and have no weight in what decisions I make.

No one can predict the future...or can they??  It seems inevitable that PURE is grasping at the end of rope by their tactics to keep from going to prison for posting false allegations and defamation of character.

So, Deborah and others, if that's what you want to create for yourselves, No one's going to throw you a life preserver.

WWASP is NOT Straight, it is not CEDU, it's not even close to anything else out there.  The only similarity is that they work with troubled teens.  Instead of sitting behind a computer, find out where you can hear from the teens and families who can show you the success stories. It's not here in cyberspace!

FOR AN ORGANIZATION THAT CLAIMS NOT TO BE ABUSIVE (OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE YOU FOOLED. ) THEY SURE SPEND A LOT OF EFFORT (AND ATTORNEY TIME )PUTTING DISCLAIMERS AND WAIVERS INTO THEIR PARENT CONTRACTS.

YOU WANT TO PUT A HAPPY GLOSS ON IT BUT,  THE MESSAGE I HEAR IS  ""WE WOULD NEVER EVER DO  ANYTHING ABUSIVE,  BUT JUST IN CASE,  WE'LL CONTROL ALL THE OUTGOING MAIL,  SWEAR THE PARENTS AND INMATES TO SECRECY,  AND PUT IN A BUNCH OF LEGAL MUMBO JUMBO DISCLAIMING ANY LIABILITY IF ONE OF OUR PSYCH TECH'S GET TOO PHYSICAL."

IF IT LOOKS LIKE A DUCK AND QUACKS LIKE A DUCK...

AND NOW,  THE CURRENT PROPAGANDA IS THAT,  WELL  DUNDEE RANCH WAS JUST AN ABBERRATION. AS ONE OF THE PREVIOUS WWASP POSTERS SAID,  IT WAS "JUST ONE IDIOT" (LIKE THE OTHER SCHOOLS WERE JUST ABERRATIONS -- ALL OF THEM CLOSED ONLY BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO)

HUH???  Show me any business that deals with people that doesn't have disclaimers.  Before my daughter participates in activites at the YMCA we have to sign their waivers.

I'd "imagine" that any place that takes on the responsibilities of caring for a troubled teen would have to have this?  What's your point?

Speaking of disclaimers, anyone read PURE's lately?  Sounds to me like Deborah is not too far off the mark (even if I disagree with her that the "ends justify the means") when she says most of these folks have a problem with accountability.

Most of these people!  I'd say ALL of these people at PURE!  That disclaimer is a joke too!!  They are, in essence, saying that their website is a fabricated bunch of crap and if we believe anything they say we are as stupid as they are.
