What is your point guest?

That you should read the link about an abusive cult leader's condition and death bed comments.

Of course if it were a story about the Semblers, then you would applaud the link and be thrilled to have the opportunity to read the story.

Whats your point?

Not sure we read the same link.  Ummm .... Tammy F. Bakker dying of cancer correct?  An 'abusive cult' leader?

A money hungry televangelist ... yes.  A woman who wore a ridiculous amount of make up  ... yes.  A 'ministry' that reeked of materialism ... certainly.  A dis-genuine disgrace to faith based ministry... yes.

An abusive cult leader ... I don't think so.

Further ... I fail to see the connection between this and the issues discussed here in this forum.  Ya know ... parenting/program issues.

I hope no one scrutinizes my death bed comments.  She's a pathetic woman dying of a horrible disease.  I pity her.  All her opulent clothing ... and millions of dollars are of no use to her now.  Death truly is the great equalizer.

Yes,a cult leader.
I found the story on Rick Ross Cult Data Base, and yes, children and the elderly were abused, and yes, brainwashing techniques were used by Tammy Fay Bakker's cult to extract money from innocent victims in the same way Straightlike programs dupe parents in to forking over cash.
Its totally connected.
I would be willing to bet that your beloved Mel Sembler will continue to profess his faith in his Straight program while he's on his death bed,but thats just a guess because I cant read the future.

Is there some reason that you object to my providing the link?
Oh yes,you already said that Tammy Fay Bakker's story has nothing to do with parenting/program issues.
Of all the off topic stuff that is posted on this message board, you chose my link as being unworthy for discussion.
Maybe you dont know the Tammy Fay Bakker back story,or maybe you sent her a lot of money and actually got to spend your holidays in one of her time share apartments.

How exactly did Tammy Faye Bakker abuse children and the elderly?  How exactly were they brainwashed?

If Tammy Bakker is a cult leader then so is Ron Popeil.  I guess he brainwashes people to send him their money for worthless kitchen gadgets like his veg-o-matic.

Sorry I can't make the connection to a televangelist begging for money and abusive teen programs.  I suppose at some level they are both opportunists ... but calling Bakker a cult is a stretch IMHO.

And what is your problem with confessing one's faith on the death bed.  If ever a person has need for their faith ... I would assume it would be on the death bed. Tammy Faye professed her faith in God ... not faith in her 'ministry'.  So your comment about "Mel Sembler continuing to profess his faith in his Straight program" is moot.

I don't object to your link.  I simply asked what point you were trying to make. Put your hackles down.

The connection lies in the usage of brainwashing for profit.  Perhaps Guest would like to elaborate more.

That said, I do, however, agree that this might have been more appropriately posted in the Open Free For All Forum.  It deals with opportunists who target a more universal audience, as opposed to the "troubled teen industry."  But that is a relatively minor point, and can easily be rectified, should it seem not so minor to everyone else.

But... I do have a bit of difficulty, perhaps, in kicking someone when they are wasted away to a mere 64 lbs and hovering at Death's Door.  Seems hardly a worthy opponent.  Perhaps that is just my perspective, having not been hoodwinked by the notorious Bakkers myself.  Perhaps Guest or Guest's family have, and hence have every right to feel jubilant.  Far be for me to try to pass judgment on that score.

Ron Popeil sells quality products at a very fair price.

I really dont care if you make a connection between Tammy Faye Bakker's abusive cult and the Straightlike programs.
Anyone can read the link, because I posted it,then use the information any way they chose.

What is a "moot" anyway.

Exactly WHERE did you read that I was "kicking" Tammy Fay Bakker when she was down?
I did not make any comments about her condition.
Where did you read that I am "jubilant" about her condition?

Its assholes like you who twist others words in the same way it is done to children in the Straightlike programs.

Methinks Guest needs to take a breather.  The only person "attacking" anyone is you.

Sounds like everyone else is being more or less supportive, just pointing out some possible inconsistencies, which would give you a chance to clarify and air your views.

You remind me of "The Who".

I donr need anybody's "support".
I just put some information here for people to read, nothing more.
I never said that I was happy or unhappy about Tammy Faye's condition.

A moot point is one that is debatable.  Something that is hypothetical.  So saying that Tammy Faye Bakkers clinging to God is comparable to Sembler clinging to Straight is ... IMHO ... debatable.
