Why do activists care?
« on: January 29, 2007, 11:00:01 AM »
Is out because they were personally hurt by programs and want revenge, they want them all shut down?

or

Is it because they are so empathic compared to everyone else, they have the insight and moral authority to judge what's right and wrong?

or

Do they do it out of a selfish need to feel important, to be able to say to themselves and others they saved a kid from the brink of being sent to private prison?

or

Call me crazy, but I'm against child abuse.

I hate being around people that are completely absorbed in this though..I can only take in small doses.

I wish. That's a big windmill. Some on fornits have managed to tilt it, though. And thank goodness for that, eh?

I just like to piss and moan and make wisecracks.

Beats workin'.

So does activism have anything to do with the severity of what is going on? reason I ask is because I see so many people organizing and doing all kinds of things to save chickens and rats and PETA freaks and ECO fascists like ELF and those people... to save some trees. I wonder why they dont try and save their peers. I am thinking these days a lot of people dont see anything wrong with it. Even the so called  "activists" who just want a scare story and strawmen they can beat to death on command to show parents how much they hate abuse right before they cash in..

People at large, these days, don't think many of the things that happen are possible in this country.

Perhaps you'd like to elaborate "cash in".  With the possable exception of that traitor, Sue Scheff, who is making the money here?  Hm?  Program supporters (such as educational consultants) or anti-program advocates?

Why do activists care?
« Reply #7 on: January 29, 2007, 10:01:52 PM »
I'm not so sure I'm an activist, but I'll tell you why I do what I do. Or at least the best of my understanding of why I do it.

Two reasons, primarily:

1) The people who fucked up my head and my family turned out to be people of great influence in the world we all live in.

It took me 12 years to escape the crazy cult my mom joined. I guess I was about 9 when I realized I was in some deep shit. When I finally came of age and got myself back to Pompano, I thought it was over and spent the next 15 years or so just living, raising kids, trying my best to forget the whole nightmare.

But I kept stumbling into reminders of it. You guys from the CEDU line of programs probably don't get that. You guys get creeped out by Cat Stevens and John Lennon, maybe by tie dye too? To you, those are harbingers of the Program personality. To those of us who did our time  enjoying the Semblers' 'hospitality', the Program personality is fucking everywhere you look! I didn't know back then about the connections between Wayne Huizenga and Bobby Dupont. I just knew that, for some damned reason, everything about Blockbuster and Home Depot creeped me out. I didn't know that Peer Counseling was designed by former Straight director, Bill Oliver, and then lobbied into the public school system by the sadistic maniacal garden club that is DFAF. I just knew that I didn't like it a bit more when my daughter was 15 and paticipating in it than I had liked DARE when she had been 8. That's just the tip of the iceberg right there, just a couple of light examples.

Then there are things like just about every image, idea or nuance that proceeded in endless succession from outfits like the Ad Council and Schoolastic and daytime talk. Those, at least, are preachy and easy to spot and dismiss. But there were subtler things, too, that really made me doubt my sanity sometimes. And so I just wrote it all off to paranoia and was thankful to have friends and family who would have me anyway.

Then I started doing the research in around `98 when Brother Jeb took office as Florida's governor. What I found rocked my whole world view. I wasn't imaging it. DFAF is among the most powerful lobbying organizations on the planet. Check out Dan Forbes 2000 investigative report on Barry McCafrey's ONDCP paying the networks to write their propaganda into your evening entertainment. Prime Time Propaganda. I mean ta tell ya, life in Merika today is a fucking acid bath for a Straight vet. And this was going on under Klinton's watch. Folks, there is no political competition between the Dempublicans and the Republicrats. They're on the same team and we're not. This is part of the circus to go with the cake.

Now Florida has a Seedling in the governor's mansion, a Gothardite at the head of the DCYF and DFAF running their juvenile rehabs, Wackenhut in charge of the cop shops and who knows what all else. And people ask me why in the word I'd want to get my kids out of there and into rural SW PA? Too much to explain, I just tell them we're in the witness protection program. That's brief enough and much more entertaining.

So, to sum up reason #1, I'm trying to get the word out to the general public that the people running the show don't just seem sometimes to be stupid or crazy, there is no explanation coming down the pike in due time that will make it all make sense, the explanation is as simple as it seems. The people we've put in charge of things are raving mad, stark naked fucking sadistic lunatics. Ocam's razor works well here. Next time you find yourself wondering why some politician did this or that seemingly silly thing and you run down the familiar list of possible explanations, save yourself the trouble. You can stop at "He must be nuts" because it's probably closest to the truth.

My parents did not know this when they became involved and the community at large didn't either when they supported or tacitly ignored what was going on back then. Well now we know and I feel it is my obligation in life to do what I can to help raise hew and cry.

2) Quite aside from the outer influence these people carry in the real world, there is also the matter of how these fun little slight of mind tricks actually effect people in the long term.

I didn't understand this at the time, my parents didn't get it, you folks who are playing out this tragedy before our tired old eyes today obviously don't get it or you wouldn't fall for it. Let me tell you a little bit about it....

Aw hell, I hate redundancy almost as much as intellectual laziness. Just look around these forums for awhile. There are the overt and often detailed descriptions of various kids of damage sustained in the course of this particular kind of treatment and from a seemingly endless line of people from all perspectives. Don't find the Ofshe report compelling? Don't trust academics and pshrinks? Fine. Check out Nazi or Dr. Fucktard or almost anybody who frequents this strange little corner of Cyberia. Ask yourself, do you really want your kids and your family to turn out like us? Do you really?

How many times do I have to say it? Leave us out of this!

Listen. There is absolutely no societal benefit whatsoever, and nothing that we can glean, from having an active system of child abuse of this sort. It does not destroy dangers to us; those people would never get into those facilities anyway. In general, it does not produce people we can use; their mental power structure is usually all fucked up so they are not worthy of our trust. Furthermore, all of its members are far too egotistical to accept our direct control without secrecy risks, meaning that even the most dedicated of us could only guide with a light hand.

Right now a couple of us are just buying a few of them out through some health conglomerates to see if there's anything of value in this mess, but I doubt it.

This is a normal problem- you idiots solve it.

im talking about the next generation of sou chefs, venture down into the wwasps forum to see my meaning. its not unique either. when kids grow up for a year or more and watch and study a system, it becomes natural to think they can rebuild it, improve it, it fits in with the natural pattern of thought and resolution. isnt it a thought to think that YOU could start the BESt program in the country, where you spoil the kids and take good care of them and everyone sings around the campfire? Its not possible. No matter who you are, program survivor, mother teresa, nobody can do it and do not address the point that these places arent necessary and 99% of the kids sent away would NEVER qualify for inpatient treatment if professionals were making the decision!  :flame:

whos cashing in.. well currently id say its the edcons. they are the ones benefiting from abusive program the most financially, because once parents are more informed of the danger, they take more pecaution (presumably) in choosing their school. that adds a layer of jobs for a bunch of housewives, ex program freaks and anyone else willing to do the dirty work of selling prison sentences to kids parents. wwasps is only a small part of the industry, but all the negative press about them is certainly benifitingn other programs, and styles of programs like wilderness. just as boot camps were ultimately decided to be too hard, unenlightened and worthless (now used on poor kids in public institutions) the rich kids parents want to experiment in lighter, psychological forms of coercion. watching some big black dude scream at little johnny is too much for them. now the parents never see what happens.. coincidence?

maybe i am paranoid, or schizo, but i see this industry shifting dramatically at the moment, and while some "advocates" might be breathing a sigh of relief, I think any relenting of criticism will ultimately give credit to similarly ineffective programs, even if they appear to be less physically abusive.

i guess its getting really dishonest, and creepy. you know what i mean?

i dont consider myself an activist at all.. just a program survivor. of course i will tell anybody about it they really wnat to know, but i dont seek parents out. i made htat mistake when i first came home, OMG.. dont underestimate the fact that these programs attract crazy parents, or maybe crazy parents have kids who act out, but there is a pattern. WWASPS parents and potential wwasps parents tended to be pretty domineering, control freak and I guess I feel bad for their kid becfause they weren't going to listen to anybody.  I hate to stereotype, but there is a typical wwasps parent.. .and it ain't pretty.

i like fornits but this recent push to make this into a activist forum and every post to consider what people think of us.. i find that extremely program like and boy do i love talking out of group!

so with that in mind... forget everything I just said.. because i will

Because I had a shitty childhood and worse teen years. Because I don't want anyone else to sufferer for any reason, idiot parents, ed-cons and programmies.

Because every time I hear this shit, it gets stuck in my head and I imagine how horrible and terrifying that must be to go through, and I don't want to let others go through it if I can do anything about it.

Because I dare to think how bad it must be to have your own family tell you you're trapped, and you'll never get out until you "WORK THE PROGRAM" on a phone surrounded by people ready and willing to hurt you for breaking the "agreement" about "manipulation".

I don't want kudos, I don't want accolades, I don't want to be important. I just want to go to sleep one night knowing there isn't 50,000 kids, or even one, vomiting from stress in an LGAT or screaming during a beating/restraint.

*sigh*

Dead to nuts, my friend, dead to nuts! I've come to know some of the coolest people ever among program vets, and I do deeply respect them and value their friendship. Often enough, they're the only people on the planet who understand where I'm coming from much of the time. The trouble is I can't STAND their company most of the time!  It just happens so naturally and easily whenever two or three program vets are gathered for any reason or no reason in particular, the cultspeak starts to creep into the vocabulary and cultish little routines and attitudes start to crop up. You go to just hang out and have a good time and a fucking encounter group breaks out. Love the friends, can't take the affect. I may be the loneliest person on the planet.

Don't worry, nothing like that is going to happen. I may have come pretty close to losing my grip here recently but I'm starting to find my bearing again. Now, if you can find me an advertiser or three who would take an interest in this, please give them my number!
