From a post at ST:

In Europe, I understand, it isn't readily available. Actually, a mom of one of the boys from Amsterdam that was in my son's school (in Georgia, US) [HLA] is actively involved in developing a program in Europe for these kids.

Amsterdam???
"These" kids???
Modeled after HLA/CEDU???

Not that surprising. From reading their papers it appears their soft handed socialists policies are backfiring and now they are going to seek out another wrong solution for the same problem.

Ain't that the truth, Europe havbe fucked up big time, certainly the UK government will never in a million years admit they have given kids all the rights they could possibly dream of and now we have a generation of unruly out of control yobs, who incidentally are producing kids of their own to grow up the same - so their answer? They'll look to the US (as always, Tony Blair, muppet, Bush puppet) and think 'hey, that's what they do in America, so it MUST be right'

I knew programs would make their way here long ago.

Giving people rights does not make them act out and misbehave.

Not at all.

Its not allowing them to grow up and get responsible that makes them act like yobs. Let them get real jobs and do their own thing, they'll grow up, even if they have "too many rights".

You misunderstood Niles

The 'right's I'm talking of are the rights the kids have - the children's rights cgharter basically, in other words one cannot move their eyeballs in the wrong direction without offending a child, and if you do, you're for the high jump - and kids know that, it's like 1984 for real, a kids favourite phrase is 'you can't do that, I'm getting you done' and they do as well, they make up lies to get their own way knowing the adults will pay for it, they do what they like knowing they won't be touched, the parents will be fined or imprisoned for it, they run riot because adults are disrespected along with teachers and police, no-one does anything about it, because the kids have rights, then the government wonder why we have anti social yobbos for a younger generation

Oh please exhausted, young people are no worse now than they have ever been. if anything they are a bit better behaved
According to the UK home office 88% of crime is committed by grownups and a significant portion of that is comitted by those over 21.  I have not checked the stats for europe but I would bet they are not dissimilar.
it strikes me that although it has become socially offensive for the media to be racist or sexist it is absolutely fine to dump shit all over kids who do not  have the ability to defend themselves.
It strikes me that Brat Camp is thew worst thing that could have happenned to British and now european kids! They are all painted as happy slapping vicki pollards now.

n case you\'re worried about what\'s going to become of the younger generation, it\'s going to grow up and start worrying about the younger generation.-Roger Allen

Yeah really, kids today have few rights and the rights they have don't contribute to juvenile delinquency. In the states children are the only segment of society that can be lawfully assaulted. In schools they can have their possessions searched randomly, strip-searched on nothing more then a whim, and beat with paddles. Most people assume that kids have rights and they do, it's just that the rights of children are often discarded, by law, in ways that make them even more vulnerable to mistreatment.

I doubt that kids today are worse then their parents , in fact many studies indicate that kids today are better(in regards to behavior) then their parents(I'll look for those studies). The one thing kids today lack is involved parents. Parents today work more hours then their parents and often have longer commutes. With cell phones, pda's, and emails, work often follows a parent home taking away time with baby.
I feel like this generation is a victim of bad press. It's quiet en vogue to portray kids as little demons these days irrespective of the facts that say the opposite.

The bottom line is this:
  • Kids today are put down for having a mind of their own and using it. Behavior that was perfectly normal for their parents generation is now looked at as a sign of delinquency. Kids today are labeled according to their dress, taste in music, and world views(sex, religion, etc...) without any thought given to the child's character and actual behavior.
It's the acceptance of these superficial labels, by society, that enables this shameless scapegoating of juveniles for society's ills

The two previous posters did such a good job of taking the wind out of Ex's Teenager hating Sails that my contribution there may be a little superfluous.

But back on topic, with the powers etc that the various child support agencies over here enjoy there is simply no way that wwasps/natsap etc could pull their shit over here. Even the comparatively mild "fatcamp" that was touted and run gained a lot of unfavourable attention. As long as people like exhausted are kept out the the decisions that affect our children we should be fine.

What are you on about?

I don't hate teenagers, I think they're victims of society! No-one gives a crap about them

When I was a kid it was pretty carefree compared to the pressures they're under today, we used to stay out all day long building camps, waking miles and miles away to friend's houses, walking back in the dark to get home, bunking off school was naughty but not a major issue.

Teenagers today are under constant pressure to have the latest designer clothes, mobile phones or they are outcast, the worst thing to me is the pressure to be able to comit crime and carry knives, if they can't do that, again they are outcast, whimps, geeks etc....
The things we were able to do, they cannot, they can't be free to roam as we did, there are paedophiles on the loose, it's criminal damage to walk across that pipe and tread the fence down over the years, you can't throw freshly cut grass at each other, it's dangerous, someone might get a stone in their eye you know! Don't play outside rough & tumbling about, you're causing a disturbance, breach of the peace and the neighbours are complaining about it, here have an ASBO, how dare you hang around in groups of 3 or more, how dare you play loudly outside

You know what Exhausted, I'm sorry for sniping at you. Reading your comments in context actually makes everything make a lot more sense.
Apart from anything else I ought not be wasting my time with this sort of conversation even if I'm right.

I think it is inevitable and just a matter of time before the TBS?s spread more throughout the world.  Eastern Europe is years behind us, they are seeing some of the same drug issues we are but if you screw up, the parents throw you out on your butt with mo place to go.  There is no tolerance and no money for rehabilitation in most areas.
