I can't believe the rest of you didn't pick up on this one:

Quote
I believe pain and suffering can be a natural process of getting thru the teen years for most kids.

Just sit there for a bit and consider the ramifications of this.

Ooh, another one:

Quote
Is it possible that they are growing there and it is painful, Yes?

Don't reply. Just let this thread die here. This sentence says more to sane parents than anything we possibly could.

I may have to concede this point Milk.  But that's why I think it's important to entertain this nonsense if only for a little while.  These people really do end up revealing much more about themselves than they intend to.

You should read more.  The natural process of moving through the teenage years is very painful as they grow socially, emotionally, feeling awkward, dealing with acne, physical growth, trying to find their place, wanting to be an adult?.. and it goes on.  Its not the best time for most kids.
Yours may have been different (not all are the same).  If you were, say, captain of the football team you may have peaked out early and look back on those years as the best.  But believe me most don?t, they are very painful times for most.

So I guess to rap this up we can conclude that there are schools out there who have abused kids and use tactics which are not beneficial to a childs growth. (I think we agree on this item) Many schools have improved and grown since the 70?s and 80?s.  ( I seem to get less resistance from people on this statement, which is better than a year ago)
One of the biggest items, at least for me, is that many here on this thread still believe that all TBS?s are the same and success does not exist.
Schools like ASR, which have been found to be very successful, are lumped in with those who are less successful thereby drawing a cloud on the entire industry.  The schools are getting more visibility via TV shows and documentaries as the word gets out and success is becoming more widespread.

The sliding scale of abuse and trauma. That's not an accident, it's a market designed to offer all parents an option, and not all parents want the light version. Coercion always leaves a scar, even if done with a smile.

Yes.

No, they've refined their marketing techniques.

How do you come to this conclusion?

Traditional, regular, no therapy boarding school....might suck, but not abusive.  TBS that uses LGAT and confrontational tactics (ASR)?  Abusive.

Found by the staff to be successful.

As it should be.  Forced therapy of any kind is bad, bad, bad.

We'll see.

Then why are they closing down left and right. Simply back up your claim that ASR is a good and safe place. That's all I ask, back something up with some sort of evidence.

Well we are getting closer, I?ll accept that for now.  As people come to see that ASR is not abusive, this will be a short divide to overcome.

Yes staff and families.

Does ASR use LGAT or confrontational type therapy sessions or not?  Simple question, requiring a simple yes or no answer.

The fact that he believes this is more than enough to prove what kind of sadistic idiot he is.

Please, for the love of Christ, let it die.

Oh yes there is.  Their philosophy is based upon it.  Not to mention that ASR does in fact use LGAT seminars and is currently employing them openly.  In fact, they have advertised this on StrugglingTeens very recently as "safe and effective," which has been proven false in clinical studies since the 1960's.  TheWho is TheLiar.
