this comes from a sibling of someone from atlanta straight.....i found it on the "alumni" site....
i just had to "share it with you guys.....totally unbelievable.....
Hi Straight Inc. alumni-
I am very happy to say that Straight Inc. saved my brother, Bill's
life, when he attended & graduated from Straight Inc. in Atlanta,
sometime around 1985, I believe. Straight was truly a
remarkable place. My brother learned sooooo much from
Straight......and so did me and my twin sister, Amber!!!
We were living in Wilmington NC at the time, and EVERY
weekend we would drive up to Atlanta JUST for my brother, Bill
W. We did this for him. To save his life!....and to keep him from
going to jail! Because I truly believe that's where he would have
ended up if we had not gone to Straight.
If any of you remember Bill W., there was not much hope for
him when he started. I think he ran away from Straight a couple
of times. But, he was one of those people, that the staff just
didnt have much hope in......and believe me, the staff had every
reason to believe he wouldnt make it!!
My brother's story of survival and subsequent graduation from
Straight Inc., is truly an inspirational story!!! My parents, Bill and
Linda W., and my sister, Amber and I, were "straight" as an
arrow. (and still are for the most part!) ....BUT still, WE learned
so much from Straight Inc. It changed my life forever. It helped to
keep Amber and I from EVER having the desire to use
drugs!!!....not that we probably would have used illegal drugs
anyway, but Straight Inc., definitely showed us, that we dont ever
want to go down that path of destruction.
We, as a family, sacrificed our weekends, to go to Straight to
support our brother! We believed in Straight that much!! It was
worth it!! It was well worth it. He evenuately, graduated from
Straight, and became a staff member before leaving Straight for
other ventures. He was an awesome staff member too! You
couldnt b.s. a former," pro b.s.-er!!!!"
Now, he is a successful construction superintendent for a
construction co. on the carolina coast. I just talked to him on the
phone a minute ago when I found one web site that was
bashing Straight, and I asked him, if he liked Straight, and he
said it changed his life forever! He said he loved it, and has
wonderful memories of it!!! That definitely puts a smile on my
face, because we put a lot into it too.
On a sidenote, I am trying to remember the people that we got
to know in our journey at Straight, and the only person's name
that I can come up with is Jody.- a female. If you are Jody, and
you attended Straight sometime in the mid 80's in Atlanta, could
you please contact me. And that also goes for anyone else who
went to Straight Inc. in Atlanta in the mid-eighties. It would be so
great to hear from you. I am sure Bill W. would love to hear how
you are doing too.
Thank you for reading my story. I have nothing but good
memories of Straight Inc.......and that will never change, no
matter how mean some of the arguments against Straight Inc.
can get!!!!!! Remember, you get out, what YOU put into it!!!!!-
Take care all Straight Inc. alumni!-
