Shortnin Bread
« on: February 15, 2006, 05:40:00 AM »
When I was in The L.I.F.E. Program,we used to sing "Mama's little baby loves shortnin shortnin,Mama's little baby loves shortnin bread.
It got transmogrified in to "Mama's little nigger loves shortnin shortnin,Mama's little nigger loves shortnin bread".
This went on for some time (with only one black female person in the group at that time),several days most of the group singing it this way, when Miss Pete rushed in and proclaimed that the "Shortnin Bread" song was forbidden and OFF the L.I.F.E. set list.
I will never forget the look of disbelief on her face and her big buldging eyes seen through those huge Coke bottle glasses she wears.

What year did that ban happen?  It was certainly unbanned in '84.

Every act of a delegated authority, contrary to the tenor of the commission under which it is exercised, is void. No legislative act, therefore, contrary to the Constitution, can be valid. To deny this, would be to affirm, that the deputy is greater than his principal; that the servant is above his master; that the representatives of the people are superior to the people themselves; that men acting by virtue of powers, may do not only what their powers do not authorize, but what they forbid."
--Alexander Hamilton
