How do you link an IP address to a physical address?

It's simple, just trust someone with your personal information.

Yeah, that's not far off. First you contact the sysadmin responsible for the range of IPs from which the person is hitting the site, along w/ timestamp and context (that's one reason I hide it, but don't actually delete it). Usually, the lazzy assed bastard admin will just suspend the account or block the IP from which the service is accessed. Cheap, quick, no-fault, efficient (for them); perfectly sensible move on their part.

No personal info requested.

Next, if you have a pretty good idea who's doing in and common ground in your concern w/ either a tort law professional or law enforcement, then you could approach the authorities of jurisdiction and seek protection. If they agree that there's substantial evidence and it's in there own interest to persue, then they can gain access to the other part of the picture; if and when this suspect accessed the proxy in question.

At that point, you lay yourself open to discovery, maybe retribution, some (maybe more important) ongoing deflection. Don't jump if you're not feeling froggy.

That's the way it works, as far as I know. And it should. We're all free soverign adults. We should be able to fend for ourselves, up to the line between legitimate, emergency self defense and the state monopoly on use of force. I've never gotten down to the nitty gritty, as I have never leaned toward brute coercion as an acceptable means to accomplish anthing good.

So I wouldn't recomend doing that if you're just offended or angry or bored. Don't sic a cop on anybody unless you're genuinely scared and there are no better options. Once you do, it's out of your hands. And what would you do if a merry prankster who was never a threat to anybody wound up getting fucked in the ass for years just cause you didn't get their sense of humor?

There's perril and trouble aplenty either way. So don't ever take it as lighly as that thoughtless emotional vomiting that may have landed your best friend or little brother or sister in hell with you.

Can you tell I've given it a lot of thought and sought council from ppl I trust? Brian, Nelson--whoever you are--you ARE scaring me and some others.

Please stop.

...the coercive collectivist State is distinctly uninterested in the cultivation of intelligence and wisdom. This is understandable...for the State has no uses to which persons of intelligence and wisdom can be put.
--Albert Jay Nock.

Ginger, I highly respect your philosophies regarding law enforcement. I see society differently these days because I get the parallels of things to Straight, and the very literal connection. I can't really say it very well tonight.

So when I see someone's supposed name and address posted, who has allegedly spammed to the point of real interference, I think to myself, "out of line? or fighting dirty rather than get law enforcement involved?"

This seems to be an ongoing feud. Straight was fucking weird.

I gotta tell you, your reasoned responses regarding the Drug War and drug testing have really made me think. That is the thing, communication and getting people to think and see things different is not a hopeless endeavor.

As mad as I get, I really think twice about posting any personal information of anyone's. Come on, we all know stuff about each other which we could use to fight dirty here.

Has it really come down to fighting dirty in this case? Nobody has to answer that. I would say, without going through the whole history of the feud, that it goes both ways. Maybe someone will come up with a better idea, something that resolves things or smooths them over?

I agree what the last 2 post said.

However. When someone says the following, as they did recently,

"I think KPickle is an asshole liar child murderer and his whore wife will be killed before his very eyes."

What do you do? At what point is the line crossed?

We all think the threats are false and should be ignored. Do we know for sure? No we don't, all we have is hope. What are the limits of free speech here?

Let's debate this more.

What is the line of OK and NOT OK?

At what point is enough? When someone actually gets hurt?

It's a roll of the dice.

I personally don't think those posts are okay, and If I was in charge of this I would delete them with no explanation.

That being said, there are ramifications for that as well and I deeply respect Ginger's vision of this website. It has been and is a huge success.

There are no easy answers here.  What I am sure of is Brian Dodd needs to be bitch slapped with a right on the cheek then spanked like the little bitch he is.

This shit is insane, stupid, juvenile and counterproductive.

On the positive side, insanity is fun to watch!  Kind of like a car wreck!

Undeniably factual.

If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.
