GOODBYE!!!
« on: September 14, 2005, 07:37:00 PM »
I have decided to stop Fornits for a while...it saddens me because I have felt like I connected with some new friends who could relate to me...and the ways that Str8 has affected my life. But when I was attacked for simply stating that I was a member of a 12 step fellowship...it felt like I was back in group and you all were spitting in my face... Life is too short to take this abuse AGAIN...

You are not the stepcult. Nobody attacked you in any way. Unless.... is it now considered an insult to call someone a non-addict?

I think I'll get a tshirt made up that says "You Are Not Powerless!" What ya wanna bet it draws more hostility and threats of violence than my "I Love Weed" shirt ever does?

The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason.

Noodle I don't think you should leave. I know how it is to get wrapped up in the posts and get upset. It happens. For the most part people are just engaging in debate about their beliefs regarding AA and NA.

Wow, dragonfly, that was quite brave of you to post such controversial stuff. Funny how we get confronted here too for being honest!

I have thought long and hard about this since I have started this thread. I am not really that upset that folks do not agree with me...or even that they are being mean and/or confronting me.

I actually love to debate and argue (I am a  lawyer for gods sake).

What really burns me up is that a bunch of people on this site aren't just anti Str8...they are anti recovery...which is one of the most unforgiveable and ignorant things i have ever seen...

I am an active member of AA. I still attend many meetings every week, I have a home group, I work with a sponser and I sponser other men. As far as I am concerned the steps saved my life.

Over the past 17 years I have gone from a punk kid who committed many crimes...to someone who got my GED, went to community college, went to university and went to a top ten law school. I have a great relationship with my family. I have amazing friends and a good life.

I am a high school drop out who is now a successful lawyer... as far as I am concerned I owe it all to AA and god and the steps...

I am in therapy right now for the way that I am in my interpersonal relationships. It has come up that maybe my ability to relate to other people in relationships was shaped by my time in Str8... (fear of abandonement, wanting to always share my feelings, etc). Coincidentally...I found this site a few weeks back... at first I thought that it was great to able to go back and deal with some issues that I thought (wrongly) I had dealt with long ago... it was cool to talk to people who could relate to my experiences...

But I am now finding out now that this site is not about criticizing Str8...it is about criticizing all 12 step recovery...

I have no desire to be a part of something with that agenda...

Str8 was horrible...but I am not against all 12 step treatement centers as Antigen seems to be...

I wonder what Antigen would do is she had an out of control drug addict teenager on her hands?

There are a lot of bad juvenile treatment centers...but there are also a lot of good ones...

But I digress...I have decided to take a break because of the way that I feel when I defend that which has saved my life (AA)...

I am finding myself angry, caustic, sarcatic and bitter... These are ways that I do not want to be...

If you all want to smoke dope...that's fine... I have no judgment on that issue I would love to smoke some dope myself (I would if I thought I could)...but for you to criticize my life (which is built on and revolves around the 12 steps and the golden rule)...that is something that I do not want any part of...

Love and kissess

P.S. I am not saying that AA or NA is for everyone...that is a subject that is definitely up for debate...but to say that it is not right for ME...or for ANYONE ever...that is in my opinion a very ignorant point of view that I do not want any part of...THAT is the same thing as Str8 calling people addicts when they had never even used drugs...

Peace

Noodle, not everyone here is against recovery. Personally I have no problem with people that CHOOSE to attend AA or NA. This is life Noodle, everyone has a different opinion. I don't see eye to eye with most people on a lot of things and if I expected everyone to see things my way in order to associate with them I would have no one to communicate with.

I hope that you reconsider your decision because as survivors I think it's imporatant we all stick together regardless of opinions.

Well, Shady, I didn't post that about WN still reading. So I don't know. Maybe it's a friend who knew. Maybe just a good guess. Either way.

Noodle, I happen to know who the anon is that you've been primarily arguing with. To say that he's against recovery is laughable. I wish I could let you in on that, but it's prettty much private info. And now the anon over on the I Just thread will likely take that to mean that he's a closet stepper or something. According to him, you see, this site is all about promoting the Semblers and Straight by making us all look like a bunch of stoners. Other's think I should delete all the Elan trolls, cause if I don't then this site is all about raceism. Still others wish I'd ban all the program proponants and edcons, otherwise this site is just another recruiting venue for the programs.

You see where this is going? Nobody every said go be a junkie. Nobody I know of around here is really against anyone w/ a real problem w/ drugs (or otherwise) getting a handle on things. All the criticizm was against the 12-step cult.

Personally, I don't have a big problem w/ people voluntarily meeting up to worship anything from the Big Book to Ekanar(sp?) to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I do, however, have some very serious problems w/ stepcraft as it actually exists today. To say that Str8 has or had nothing to do w/ stepcraft is just... astounding!

I know one person through a friend who was court ordered into Teen Challenge and another, one of my daughter's friends, who's debating whether to go or face a couple of years in county prison. So who's Teen Challenge? His cousin went to their facility in Oakland over a year ago and now she doesn't want to come back. She's trying to get her grandma to pitch for another year of "treatment". According to the one guy (a Str8 grad around our age) it's pretty much the same as it ever was. Took him a good year or so after graduation to start shaking it off.

According to Heal-online.org:
Quote
Alabama Teen Challenge in Oxford (& cities of Bay Minette, Warrior, ), AL is highly suspected of being a teen torture facility.  Teen Challenge is the only group of programs endorsed by the Drug Free America Foundation (DFAF).  DFAF was founded by Mel Sembler, former owner and director of Straight, Inc. a confirmedly torturous group of institutions for teens.   Straight, Inc. was endorsed by former US presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.  In George W. Bush?s first term (2000-2004) he appointed Mel Sembler as US ambassador to Italy.  George W. Bush instituted the ?New Freedom Commission? in 2000.  The ?New Freedom Commission? is a group of psychiatrists and pharmaceutical lobbyists working to insure that every child in America is drugged and virtually enslaved through behavior modification.  Please do not sent your child to any Teen Challenge program. If you were abused or had your rights violated by Teen Challenge, please contact us and we will post your story here as a warning to others.  To view confirmed statements regarding abuse at other Teen Challenge programs, click here.  To read about Straight, Inc. and the Semblers, please click here.

Evidently, the goose stepping altruistic tyrants are every actively and very directly using force of law to compell indictrination in Str8 under new names; now with increased government funding.

THAT is what I vehemently oppose. It doesn't matter how hard you and Shady or anyone else insists that's not happeneing or that you dissapprove. It's happening. And you're insistance to the contrary is just the same as any Str8ling's insistance that no abuse ever occured in the Program. So it does tend to get under my skin just a tad.

You're not the only one who was a pain in the ass kid. And you're not the only punk kid who ever pulled their shit together. If you look around, you'll find that more people pull their shit together w/o stepcraft than with it. If you've been off drugs for 17 years, but telling yourself every day that you've an addict, well that's just tragic.

You said: "I am in therapy right now for the way that I am in my interpersonal relationships. It has come up that maybe my ability to relate to other people in relationships was shaped by my time in Str8... (fear of abandonement, wanting to always share my feelings, etc)."

I can't dissagree w/ that. Often times these discussions remind me of a day in group. Basically, we really are all a lot of assholes. But you don't have to agree w/ me or anyone else to maintain status or belongership. I think anyone who agrees w/ everyone who hangs out here would be, by definition, mentally ill. How can you agree w/ a bunch of people who don't even agree w/ each other?
