Another statement has been made to ISAC regarding the misrepresentations made by the Sudweeks about Whitmore Academy, and the abuses suffered by this student.

It is kind of hard to manuver in this site... here is a better link... http://www.isaccorp.org/whitmore/sschacherer.pdf

My child's story is very similar.  I am composing a letter as well.  Hurray for Leah's Grandmother for having the courage to write her letter.  Hopefully more parents and kids will come forward and tell their stories.  While you are on the site look at the page on warning signs for abusive facilities.  I believe The Whitmore does all but 1 or 2.  The list is a huge wake-up call. Hard to deny and even harder to accept we sent our kids there.

any way to print that list on here, so parents with kids still at Whitmore could maybe use it as a check list---then maybe they might GET IT and take their kids out of there?

Here's the link to the Whitmore section on ISAC

http://www.isaccorp.org/documentsnz.html#whitmore

If they ever reorganize the site, the main link is http://www.isaccorp.org/

Truth resides in every human heart, and one has to search for it there, and to be guided by truth as one sees it. But no one has a right to coerce others to act according to his own view of truth.

Here is the link... check it out.  It was very eye opening for me.  Hopefully, if anyone has doubt about the activities at The Whitmore, it will answer their questions.

Read the list carefully, and Whitmore can be checked off on all except 3 from my viewpoint. Puts it right up there---way past POTENTIALLY ABUSIVE!!! Parents who still have kids at Whitmore need to check this list, and check their kids OUT OF THERE! No one can read this and not be honestly concerned if they have a child there.

I read Gramma's letter. Not too effective. She states the facts (as she sees them) but the whole thing oozes with self guilt over not being able to control her family. I hope she gets over it. Nothing bad was done to her granddaughter at Whitmore except whatever home experience she had before being sent away.

Wow! Oozes w/ guilt? I think you're reading a lot more into that than what's there.

At some point, I hope someone is also legally able to attest to the fact of all the threats and intimidation that seems to attend any kid who says anything less than glowing about the Whitmore. Honestly, that's just about most alarming part of the whole story to my way of thinking. Anybody want to call me on that? Ive got the content and the server logs, but no legally compelling reason to demand the identities of the authors from their respective ISPs.

As to ISAC's warning list, don't make more or less of it than what it is. It's not scientifically based or anything. It's just a mix of common sense and personal experience written by program survivors. I don't think they present it as anything other than what it is. But I think you may be taking it that way. It's just food for thought.

I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotism.

Exactly what planet are you from?  Didn't get that impression at all.  Obviously you are not a parent.  Any parent who reads this would be very alarmed.  I only see many of the same things that were done to my child.  There were bad things done to Leah and my child saw it! My child told the same stories Leah did and they had not talked to each other for months!  Coincidence?  I don't think so.

Anon, what could be more effective, you seeing it with your own eyes? I don't think Leah's "home experiences" were 'spitting in her face...putting her in isolation, cursing her, hitting...inadequately feeding, educating, or failing to offer her therapy that was paid for.'
Doesn't seem to me her grandmother has anything to feel guilty about. If anyone should be feeling a burden of guilt, it should be the Sudweeks, and perhaps people like you who seem to lack an ounce of compassion for the pain and suffering of others.

Not reading anything into the List put out by ISAC, but it is very interesting to realize that almost all the "warnings" do apply to the way the Sudweeks operate Whitmore. Only a very few do not apply from our experience. Had we seen a list like this prior to enrolling our daughter--we might have stepped back and said to ourselves, "wait a minute, something does not seem right here." Had we seen this list
after we enrolled our daughter--we may have pulled her out faster than we did. It is good information.

Yeah, that's the intention.

They know that it is human nature to take up causes whereby a man may oppress his neighbor, no matter how unjustly. ... Hence they have had no trouble in finding men who would preach the damnability and heresy of the new doctrine from the very pulpit.

Any of this sound familiar?

http://www.ex-cult.org/General/totalism-group-dynamics

"CONTROL OF INFORMATION"

By controlling the information one receives you can control and
restrict the individual's ability to think for himself.  You limit
what he is able to think about.

BEHAVIOUR CONTROL - The control of an individual's physical reality.

This can include control of where he lives, what he eats, his
clothing, sleep, job, rituals etc.  This is why most cults
have a stringent  schedule for members.  There is always something to
do in destructive cults.  Each cult has its own distinctive set of
behaviours that bind it together. This control is so powerful that the
cult member will actually participate in their own punishment and come
to believe he actually deserves it! No one can command a person's
thoughts but IF YOU CAN CONTROL BEHAVIOUR THEN HEARTS AND MINDS WILL FOLLOW.

THOUGHT CONTROL - The control of an individual's thought processes

The indoctrination of members so thoroughly that they will manipulate their
own thought processes.  The ideology is internalised as "the truth". Incoming
information is filtered through the beliefs which also regulates how this
information is thought about.

The cult has it's own language which further regulates how a person
thinks. This puts a great barrier between cult members and outsiders.

Another form of control is "thought stopping" techniques.  This can
take many forms: chanting, meditating, singing, humming, tongues (some
even pay money to learn it), concentrated praying, etc.  The use of
these techniques short-circuits the persons' ability to test reality.
The person can only think positive thoughts about the group. If there
is a problem the member assumes responsibility and works harder.

EMOTIONAL CONTROL - The control of the individuals emotional life

This manipulates a person's range of feelings. Guilt and fear are
used to keep control. Cult members cannot see the control by guilt and
like other abuse victims are conditioned to blame themselves when things
are wrong, even grateful when a leader points our their transgressions.

Fear is used to manipulate two ways.  The first is to create an
outside enemy (we vs them) who is persecuting you.  The second is the
fear of punishment by the leaders if you are not "good enough."  Being
"good enough" is following the ideology perfectly.  The most
powerful emotional control is phobia indoctrination.  This can give
the person a panic reaction at the very thought of leaving the
group.  It is almost impossible to conceive that there is any life
outside the group. There is no physical gun held to their heads but the
psychological gun is just as if not more powerful.

INFORMATION CONTROL - The control of the individuals information sources

Deny a person the information needed to make a sound judgment and he will be
incapable of doing so.  People are trapped in cults because they are denied
both the access to the critical information they need to assess their
situation.  The psychological chains on their minds are just as powerful
as if they were locked away physically from society. So strong is this
psychological process they also lack the properly functioning internal
mechanism to process any critical information placed in front of them.

They serve so that we don't have to. They offer to give up their lives so that we can be free. It is, remarkably, their gift to us. And all they ask for in return is that we never send them into harm's way unless it is absolutely necessary. Will they ever trust us again?

That's right, I stated FACTS.  I stated the LIES told by the Sudweeks.  I have no feelings of guilt.  You are barking up the wrong tree.

What I do have is absolute distain for anyone who treats children the way my granddaughter was treated at Whitmore.  I have more distain for people who can sit and look you right in the eyes and lie to you.  I have distain for people who take advantage of your desparation in trying to help a child whom you love dearly.

No, I don't feel guilty, I feel very motivated to see that justice is served, that other children are not put in the same situation.

I don't cry over spilled milk, I move on to do what I can to change bad situations.  I can not change what has already happened, but maybe I can make a difference, so that it does not continue to happen to others.  And just maybe the Sudweeks will have to answer for their actions.

Good for you!  We  wish Leah to best of luck in that stupid suit Mark filed about her horse too! Let us know how that turns out. What a jerk he is. Using her horse all that time in their horse program, then trying to sue a young college girl for room and board as a form of intimdation. What a jerk!
