Picket the Educational Consultants Conf in S.F. Apr 30-May2

If anyone lives in the San Francisco area, you might consider demonstrating at the
Independent Educational Consultant's Association conference:
http://http://www.educationalconsulting.org/conferences_therapeutic.html

There is a "free preconference" meeting of interest:
Quote
Therapeutic Schools / Programs: Surviving the Recession Thursday, April 30 • 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
For therapeutic schools and program reps

The impact of the economy on the therapeutic community is evident with school closings and consolidations.  This workshop will explore what is going on and what needs to take place in staffing, programming, student recruitment and financial aid to keep programs viable while meeting the needs of students.  Among the presenters are program CEOs, CFOs, consultant outreach specialists, and others.

Just an idea...

It might be easy to convince this forum's regulars who live in the area to help out. However many they are.

But what opportunity for epic lulz do you offer Anonymous?

Anonymous is not your personal army. Anonymous does not work for free. Anonymous only acts for Anonymous.

I foresee an opportunity for great lulz, possibly even great ownaj. But unless you care to make a strategy beyond "LET'S GO PICKET THEM LOL" I fail to see how this will attract a sufficient mass.

Greetings, Anon.

Lulz or no lulz is a matter for others to decide. I respect your time and other life commitments. Unfortunately, I am not able to participate or organize a demonstration there and then, but I smelled an opportunity (they put off quite a stink) and thought folks might want to know about it.

I absolutely LOVE how they refuse to put the name of the hotel on any of their literature. Oh no! Someone from *gasp* Fornits might find out where we are!

San Francisco International Airport
Approximately 15 miles from the conference hotel; the largest area airport
and closest to the conference hotel.
Oakland International Airport
Approximately 20 miles from the conference hotel.
San Jose Airport
Approximately 48 miles from the conference hotel.

GEOMETRY 101! Who wants to do this assignment? I'll pop it off in a couple of days if no one else does. Don't forget to call the hotel to confirm your answer!

I live in SF, and believe it or not, I don't give a fuck.

I couldn't possibly even think of a worthwhile way to protest. I'd rather get in there and snoop around, if anything, and even that returns marginal care-age on the castle meter.

I'm old, I'm jaded, I'm crazy, and I've got my own problems.

However, if anyone is coming down to protest, Ill be more than happy to meet them at Tommy's Joynt afterwords for some cheap beer.. especially since April 30 is thursday, which is lamb shank day. Oooh, fuckin-a. Wait till youve had summa those bitches. nummy num!

Cant go to San Fran without experiencing the local phenomena that is haufbrau.

If anyone's lookin for a place to stay, and dont mind a studio apartment covered in cat fur (calico) as well as inhabited by the cats who made it, and you're cute... eeeh maybe Ill let you crash on the couch.

maybe. I havent decided yet. You have to be someone I know already on the boards, and... if you come supplying greenage, then definitely.

Hell, if you come supplying greenage, I dont give a fuck who you are.

WTF, why would anyone want to block or protest kids from getting an education?

Is that what you call it? I believe the term you were trying to think of is "re-education," as in the "re-education camps" used to squelch voices of discontent in China.

The Heck with China.  The majority of educational consultants work strictly within the united states and Europe (occasionally South America for emersion studies).  The primary purpose is to find a good match for children looking to continue their education with placements in high school and College level.  China may have a system of their own (and call them camps that I am not familiar with) but very few students from the US are looking to be placed in Asia.  Many kids in Asia do look to be placed in the US and Europe.  I think that is what you are referring to.

Looks like it was written by someone from IECA. Probably 80-90% of the work done by IECA is for the troubled teen industry, yet they chose to emphasize "college placement" and "special needs" issues. lol.

1. The miles are in driving-distance miles, not crow-flies miles.

2. The whole local district is packed solid with hotels. Here is about where they're at. (534 Pacific Ave has no special meaning, it's just a spot in the area)

3. It's pretty close to the Castro, the world's most famous spot for cruising homosexuals. I can't imagine whatever reason they would want to be there. Nope, not at all.

Most of the posters on fornits are either bisexual or gay so I don't see what you are gaining by making fun of them. Quit being so juvenile, will ya? Thanks.

If anyone is looking for a cheap and quite charming hotel to stay at, I recommend the Hotel Mirabelle. Depending on the room, it's normally about 3 to 4 hundred dollars a week. Neato decor, small but comfortable rooms and beds. Communal WC and shower, but totally nice and clean, and I totally dig it. It's not a residential hotel in the sense of a crackhead place. It's more like one of those old-school ones you'd see in London.

My friend lives there, and the place is totally awesome. Yelp it if you doubt me. Every review is either four or five stars.

Hell, you might even see me there on sunday, doing The Office marathon with my friends in the shanghai room.

The neighborhood could use improvement. Kinda skid row-ish. I used to live a block away, but as far as Im concerned, its allright. Lower mission district. 15th and Mission.

Also, how the hell did you get that location? BTW, that's north beach/chinatown. Nowhere near the castro.

I guess that once people register they will be given directions on where the hell it is?

never mind. I can find out.

The convention says it will be about 1000 people attending. It also mentions hotel accommodations, so it sounds like this is going to be held at a convention hotel instead of a convention center (like moscone or brannan).

Here's a list of venues. I havent poured over it yet, but several are located in the pacific ave area.

http://www.sfcvb.org/media/downloads/co ... hotels.pdf

What I need to know is how this area was figured out to begin with, to determine whether it's accurate.

Or.. am I clueless and they actually put the location somewhere?
