I do know that Delia Albertoni and Jim Powell were both ex-synnanoites...overheard them talking about it and it majorly creeped me out!

P.S.  There is NO education going on at Cross Creek.  There are no credentialed teachers.  It's NOT a requirement.  Believe me, I feel very strongly about education.  If a student is struggling with a concept and doesn't seem to get it, it is my resposiblity to find a way that the student can get it...and I practice what I preach...I have done my research and this place is a warehouse for kids that the parents can't control in the most negative of ways, as in total control, body and soul.  I wonder what the statistics are regarding the percentage of adopted kids in these WWASP penal colonies?  It has bee my 12 year experience that many of these placments are used because the child won't "bond" (read owned body and soul) by the parents.

To Dysfunction, do you always have to be so dysfunctional, even when agreeing with someone?
"You hit the nail on the head, stupid?"  How rude!
To the Anon who tried to post positive about Cross Creek...PLEASE do not try to justify these inappropriate behavior -mod hell holes!  I did not need to read just Maia's book, I've actually done plenty of reserch, as well as actually working at one of the infamous CEDU schools for a short period of time.  Confrontational, bootcamp treatment is child abuse.  Isolating students is child abuse (and against the law in California). Ridiculing or cursing at children is child abuse. Restraint is child abuse.  The tactics used at WWASP schools is all child abuse. These students are "incarcerated"...my classroom, in a public school setting is "structured" ...there is a huge difference.  The only thing that this student was saved from was more abuse at the hands of his father, who put him at that school because he liked the lack of laws and governance.  He didn't care if his kid was being abused...he abused him himself.
The only thing learned from abuse is how to abuse others.

In response, I am NOT the parent of this student.  I am a special education teacher who worked with this student for a month before the parents sent him to Cross Creek.  they did not want a California School because "The laws are too strict."  They were intent on looking for a bootcamp, not dissimilar to the way they treated their adopted son.  I am AGAINST this type of incarceration.  Particularly in light ofreading Help At Any Cost.[ This Message was edited by: wild thing on 2006-05-05 07:56 ]

I need the following information for a due process case that is coming up on Friday.  Parents are trying to get school funding to keep their adopted son at Cross Creek in Utah.  I know that this is not a certified school by any state, nor is any WWASP school for that matter.
What are the academics, if any at this school.
If there is an academic day, what does it look like? :scared:
Do they use an isolation room?
If so, for what length of time?
Basically, I need the real dirt on this school...also
I know many, if not all WASP programs have been shut down over seas...  Anyone know which ones and when
Thanks to all who respond, you may have saved a life.

Just because a parent belongs to an Attachment group, as the parent who posted here previously lauding these Gulag camps, does not mean that they are totally commited to the best interests of their children.
Just look at the number of deaths that have occuried from "bonding" and "holding" experiences in the name of attachment.  Many states have outlawed this type of bogus therapy after children died at the hands of their "therapsists" and I use that term loosely and these parents hell-bent on making their children "attach."  In reality, parents who stoop to this level are control freaks who are trying to recreate someone in their own image.  This doesn't happen with birth children.  Many of these parents do not adopt for altrusitic reasons, rather, self serving and narcissitc reasons are their motivation.  And then they become angry that this child won't bend totally to their will and become a clone of themselves.

The system used to work only for foster care...with foster parents receiving a check from the state.  However, new legislation has gone into effect that provides parents of ADOPTED children with the cash to do what they will with their adopted children.
These parents, in particular, fit the bill of wanting a subservient child who will be eternally grateful for the beatings and meager bread he has received.
It's not an uncommon things among adoptive parents.

the parents of the student in question were abusive...the father admitted to me that he used "physical force" all the time...most recently when he saw his son "glaring" at the mother.  I had all I could do not to glare at both of them.  The kid was adopted and the parents were working the system for $$$$.  It would seem logical that they would purposely choose an abusive program.  The kid was not a bad kid. I never had any trouble with him.  He was my best student.
I did report the abuse which is probably why the parents elected to send him so far away.

I just had the parents of one of my students send their son to Cross Creek.  I know about the WWASP organization and I am very concerned about his safety.  (Of course, I was very concerned about his safety at home, too and it is no wonder that his parents picked a WWASP program!)
