The Troubled Teen Industry / Rebelling against your parents
« on: December 20, 2007, 10:59:00 PM »
I called on friends, I stayed with them until I could get on my feet.  I got a roommate, I worked my butt off.  Two jobs, for years.  Eventually I got married, started college...lived life.  I tried having a relationship with my parents several times before it finally worked in a way acceptable for me and for them.  Lots of trial and error.  I was fortunate enough to work one job at a restaurant.  That's where my food came from.

The Troubled Teen Industry / What do protests actually accomplish?
« on: December 19, 2007, 10:02:48 PM »
There are a few good reasons to protest.  One is to bring program abuse & abusers into the limelight.  Another is to remind the prisoners that they are not forgotten.  Remind the staff that they are accountable, and do not have free reign to harm others.

There's an old story about a little girl picking up starfish off the shore that have washed up in a storm.  A man sees her picking them up and tossing them back in the ocean.  He asks her why she's even bothering...she can't possibly make a difference...silently she picks another starfish up & tosses it into the ocean and says, "I made a difference to that one."

Five days after my 18th birthday, I flew the coop.  I went home for the first time about four years later, to visit.  I stopped by once more about a year later.  I was still too angry & bitter to deal with them, so then I waited another 11 years before going back.  I didn't have "regular" contact with them for many years.

Facility Question and Answers / Focus...
« on: December 16, 2007, 11:45:32 PM »
Well, you know, I've tried really hard to teach that teenager of mine a core base of values and how did she repay me this evening?  TORTURE...she put me through 20 minutes of hard core TAE BO.  OMG, I thought I was gonna die.  That's it, I'm taking her Christmas presents back.

Yes, I saw that guy's page on "How to raise a rebellious teenager".  It made me sooooooo angry.  Ugh.  Might want to teach them to never use fire either.  Fire causes destruction and should be avoided at all costs.  (Nevermind that it can warm your food or your home.  Let's just focus on one aspect, the negative aspect at that.)

They claimed to have put their child in and cannot get them out.

The above statement is NOT the same thing as a child having been court ordered there.  As mentioned, if it was me I would contact the police, you tried that & it wasn't helpful.  Talk to the media.  Talk to an attorney.  Stand outside with a sign that says "____", I love you.

AGAIN, I do not know anything about the Canadian court system.  In America, if the court ordered him/her there, you could go sit in that judge's courtroom everyday possible.  You could also take notes until they start asking you why you're there.  When they do, tell them what's happening at the facility.

I apologize if I upset you, but the two statements...(put their child in vs. court ordered) are not the same.

Well, if my child was someplace, and I wanted to get them out, and the place wouldn't cooperate, I'd go to the police, the media and get an attorney involved...not necessarily in that order.  Your assessment that something isn't right seems spot on.  I wouldn't consider it any form of laughing matter.

Unfortunately, I know nothing of Canadian laws...anybody have some information they can contribute that would be helpful?
