Elan School / Elan Connection to the People's Temple?
« on: April 15, 2007, 04:04:17 PM »
Hey people, just an item of curiousity here.  I know Elan is a Synanon-based program, like Daytop.  However, I never heard of "The Ring" (making attendees fight one another physically) being used anywhere at Daytop.

I was watching a channel thirteen documentary today about the People's Temple - the Jim Jones cult that killed a congressman and committed mass suicide in Guyana.  In this film they were talking about people being "called up front" (a group confrontation/confession session where members would have to confess intimate details of their lives - who they slept with, etc - to the group), whereupon the leader (Jones) would give "consequences" ranging from bitch-slappings to paddlings to sexual assault to "the ring"...  This caught my attention.

My question:  Does anyone know wheteher "the ring" came from the People's Temple or some other source for cult abuse tactics?

In any case, this documentary was fascinating and was laden with program-speak and tactics.  I knew before of the People's Temple, but I had never heard it in the words of survivors and, let me tell you, it sent a shiver down my spine...

Due to substantiated claims of fraud and abuse, TERI (http://www.teri.org/) will no longer fund loans to attend HLA (also Elan Schools).

TERI has concluded that HLA is not an educational institution and therefore educational loans to "attend" cannot be given.

TERI has been a major source of funding for HLA parents.  Look for HLA to be removed from the "approved schools" list in the next few weeks.

I'm not sure if HLA has been notified yet, but, if not, it's my pleasure to inform them.

Susan Skelton, after being given numerous court documents and rulings from oversight agencies delineating abuses at Hidden Lake Academy and also being informed that HLA isn't legally a school, responded by asking "Where does all yur anger come from?  Can't you find something better to do with your time?"

Nope, preventing organized child abuse for profit is a pretty high calling, Susan.  I can't really think of anything better to do with my time than informing consumers of Ed Con services that you refer to abusive facilities even after being well educated about the abuse by oversight agencies.

Susan Skelton will refer your child to an abusive facility even after being handed all of the evidence of abuse.

DO NOT PATRONIZE SUSAN SKELTON!

A must read:

http://www.collegeboard.com/parents/pla ... 50129.html

This article describes program parents to a "t"!

Very interesting points...

"Children's growth is stunted.
Helicopter parents seem to be stunting their children's maturation. Numerous students are arriving at college without basic social and survival skills. They lack knowledge about how to negotiate for what they need, to coexist with other people in shared living quarters, to stay safe, and to solve their own problems. With their parents always ready to step in, kids are failing to learn accountability and responsibility."

This is a great point and one thta's been made here several dozens of times.  Treating your adolescent like a child destroys emotional growth!  Sending your kid to a program does exactly the same thing - causes regression or stoppage of "emotional growth"  (a synonym for "natural maturation").

Think about it, parents.  Your control freakery is stunting your kids' growth!

The LCSO has confirmed that they did respond to a suicide attempt at HLA last week.  A young woman attempted to cut her wrists.

I'm looking for people who have had dealings with ASR that were, let's say, less than above-board.

Parents, were you promised services not delivered?  Prevented from communicating with your kid at any time?  Gotten "fishy" answers to questions about staff credentials or services rendered?  Had deposits or prepaid tuition withheld for withdrawing your kid?

Kids, were your rights violated?  Were you forced to participate in group and individual therapy that you did not want to do?  Was your mail censored?  Did you have access to a pay phone to report abuses?  Were you allowed to walk away without consequences?  Are you able to examine you file and correct misinformation?  Were you ever forced to do physical labor?  Make material improvement to the ASR campus?  Restrained?

Staff, have you seen patient rights violations?  Restraints?  Consequences for refusing to follow the program?  Denial of telephone use or mail screening?  Saw kids treated in a manner not consistent with competent care?  I'm especially interested in documents that show patient rights violations.

If the answer to any of the questions above is "yes" I'd like to hear from you.  Your rights were violated and you have recourse.  I will fight for you and bring your story to the state.  If you were wronged, I will help you to set it right.

Please post specific instances where the above scenarios have applied to you.  You can also contact me by PM.

Aspen Education Group / Useful Contact Points for ASR Oversight

This thread will be used to make an "address book," if you will, of the agencies and people charged with overseeing the activties at the Academy at Swift River.

So, if you are researching like I am, please post up relevent links, addresses, contacts and phone numbers as you find them.

Thanks.  Any questions, please PM.

Well, patience and persistence pay off, don't they?

This is just incredible news. HLA will become the first 'TBS' required by law to be licensed (read 'regulated') by the state.

I believe that this precedent, coupled with the ruling in NY regarding the Academy at Ivy Ridge (that a TBS is not in fact a school, but a 'behavior modification facility') set all the precedent necessary to go after these fraud factories one at a time, or even to attack their professional networking umbrella groups such as NATSAP.

This is a big, big day, folks. Let's not rest upon our laurels.

Now we need to make sure that HLA provides factual information to the licensing board and scuttle their application should they choose to 'stay the course' with fraudulent documentation provided to oversight officials.

One more time, for all the naysayers and for all of the deeply disturbed people who have fought tooth-and-nail to avoid the responsibility of providing proper research proven effective mental health care to our children: ::fuckoff::  ::both::

One great thing about this ruling is that it will force out the hacks, quacks, and non-degreed, unlicensed staff. I would estimate that fully 90% of current HLA employees will not meet muster for professional requirements and will therefore be (ENFORCEABLY) legally barred from working with the kids.

HLA needs to find a way to attract and hire proper personnel or fold up and blow away. I'd give 10 to 1 odds on the latter. Any takers??

*note: this info is in the poll thread as well, but it needs to be it's own thread, so this one was initiated.

Mark and Kathleen,

I understand you both have a lot invested in your careers at HLA.  It is understandable why you would try to bolster HLA's reputation and business.  I get that.  I also understand that you desire to help kids and not hurt them.  Unfortunately, as you've both seen first hand, your employer isn't interested in helping anyone.

Mark, with DHR breathing down your neck you've done the right thing.  You've done what's legally and ethically required of you: you gave them the information they have a legal right to see.  Why then is it OK that your employer humiliates you in front of your coworkers by asking you things like "You still work for me?" in front of a staff meeting?  Why do you stand for this?

Kathleen, you did the right thing, too, in regard to the DHR investigation.  You did what you knew had to be done.  Why should you take the legal repercussions for refusing to comply with a warrant?  I wouldn't.  Should you be personally degraded for it by your boss?  Is it OK with you that this man made you cry with a viscious assault on your character for simply complying with the law?  Not to me it isn't.

Please, both of you, do what you you can (which is considerable) to help these families that have been hurt by HLA.  Do the right thing and help heal these people who were wronged by HLA.  Contact me and I will put you in contact with the right people.

Ask yourselves:  Am I really doing what's right and am I doing all I can?

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / Hush Money
« on: November 30, 2006, 01:27:41 PM »
I have it from a reliable source that HLA has been cutting checks to departing employees to buy their silence.  Reportedly, one employee received a $7000.00 payment of "hush money."  There are several others.

Unfortunately, this "gag" doesn't hold up legally, so any of you who received hush money are urged to come forward and tell the story behind the desire to keep you quiet.

Let's face it, I know who some of you are already and I'm going to find the rest of you - it's only a matter of time.  When you have been identified, you are going to be subpoenaed to give depositions and/or to testify in court. That's going to happen either way, so please, come forward and help us help some of those who you have (intentionally or unintentionally) harmed.  Do the right thing and help these kids and families.

Please PM me with contact details.

Currently, HLA's population is running at about 125 attendees.  ROI metrics for HLA's business model indicate that 120 attendees is their break-even point.

Some 26 kids are slated to "graduate" next month and best estimates indicate 20-30 withdrawals early in the first quarter of the new year, resulting in a population (accounting for current enrollment rate) of 90-100 attendees total population next year.  This situation is reportedly financially untenable for the facility.

A recent prediction by one of HLA's financial officers is that HLA will "go under" by "February 1st."  I'm not sure of the exactness of this timeframe, but it is the estimation of those that hold the purse strings.  They probably know better than I...

This article gives pretty good insight into our culture and our affinity for using incarceration to address society's ills...

It's mind-boggling how many people are locked up here in the good ol' US of A.

"Freedom is on the march!"  Yeah, sure.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Most Prolific/Schizophrenic ST Troll EVER
« on: November 27, 2006, 01:03:35 PM »
Some of you may remember a poster called "BrokenLegNO" or "WildFig" posting here and just generally being a pain in the ass.  Some time ago I challenged Fig to be honest and allow his/her posts to be linked together so we could all see the truth about this poster.

Why do I bring this up?  Because StrugglingParents are the the phoniest, holier-than-thou, know it alls who will stop at nothing to discredit victims on this site.  They will lie, cheat, make phony posts, deny their identity and change their story as many times as needed to make them seem correct, even if they are dead wrong and lying about everything.

I got sick of this poster doing it and so recruited the help of some friends to link up his/her posts to show you just exactly how crooked this business is and how crooked its proponents are.  Please, read on and see the depths to which this SP will go with the multiple personalities and the outright fabrication of stories designed to bring in business for ASR, SNWP and Carlbrook.
