The Troubled Teen Industry / Webpage Database That's Needed
« on: November 04, 2004, 05:24:00 PM »
I'm working on this. It'll take time but I'll begin to make requests of members here re: various stats I'll be collecting, along with State by State information, laws re: these programs.

Please send me ideas about all the data you might want on such a site.

So far: State by State:

listing of every facility I can find;

 with licensing info (and the meaning of the licensing info spelled out);

owner information;

actions taken against them or their parent company; (let me know of any you know of)

signed testimonials from former program participants and parents re: facilities positive or negative.The fresher the better. Signatures will remain anonymous, required for me or a group of us to verify the testimony. (please send these, there are a lot on Provo, not that I would discourage more, and a good deal on the worst of WWASP, so I'd like to hear especially  from others and especially from those whose experiences weren't GROSS ABUSE but nevertheless abuse - like unlawful detainment, inability to communicate with outside world, especially lawyers or to make complaint, dangerous facilities, verbally abusive and/or undertrained staff etc...

Same for former employees of these programs!!!!

State/Local agencies and particular parties to contact with concerns;

Listing of contacts people have made with these agencies and the outcome, i.e. CPS, DHHS, Attorney Generals - so please keep track of these everyone and send them to me;

Broad coverage of degree of oversight by state and explanation of related political issues.

IPAC what it does and doesn't do.  Which states abide.

Citical relevant laws and case citations

Statements and links to all the major national mental health players re: these programs

Relevant studies

News articles

Activist alerts

Parenting information - alternatives to these programs and parenting education

Teen mental health information - information focused on diagnoses or behaviors that land kids in these programs.

Warnings About programs, escorts, ed consultants and limits on oversight in general.

Now that the case is public, I can report on some of the details which I will do at my blog starting tonight. This is an extremely important case. If it's relevant to your situation and you want more information email me through my blog -you may be anonymous but of course, I will be more circumspect if you are.

Major media is ready to jump on this (without any prompting)once I can speak freely.

Also this is the link to the Deseret story on this (with inaccuracies)

NIMH held a conference last week on  - Preventing Violence and Health-Risking Social Behaviors in Adolescents 3 DAYS during which they clearly articulated their opposition to the troubled teen programs.

Scroll down to Oct.13 for the first day videocast and then go up to find the next two days:

And in case you haven't read the paper they wrote which also refers to their opposition here it is, written August 2004:

I am VERY INTERESTED in details of these cases. I've got one of my own in mind. I'm a good hunter but a few more tips would help. Send private message if possible. You have to sign up to do so but i think we're pretty safe here.

To my would be helper:  I am one of the "owners" of the blog
http://www.troubledteenindustry.blogspot.com.  any comment you make (doesn't matter which posting you comment from)will be forwarded to my personal email. No one will see your name. Just go to the blog, click on comment for ANY posting. I think this is the best way to handle this.

Obviously, I can't leave a phone number or personal email address for you (and the rest of the world).

Please contact me soon.[ This Message was edited by: hurleygurley on 2004-10-23 11:54 ]

to the anonymous poster who is obviously clued in to specifics, it is disturbing to read your posts without knowing who you are. The posts regarding help you may have are particularly disturbing because you offer no way to contact you and you have not left a private message. Further comments like this I will consider harrassment rather than help. I would love any REAL help that you or anyone has to offer but I won't reveal anything further about the case here or with anyone who cannot prove their interest in the case.

Thanks. I haven't been plugging the blog because I know it's incomplete and really just an outline for a real site. I will post further closings and yeah, I've noticed the stellar list of NATSAP people.

I very familiar with this case. Just wanted to let you know that things are cooking. Obviously  /can't say too much but I'd bet this is going to be a good thing for us. When the hearing is over I will report the news.

74
I would love to see some long term outcome studies, not just anecdotes positive or negative on the efficacy of these programs. They are not out there and I think I know why. Do you?
