Hyde Schools

Hyde... the "Cadillac" of turnaround schools. Yeah, they still make students shadow eachother, they still fuck around with people for no good reason and put them on 2-4 for having "bad attitudes" and they still manage to suck the fun out of every human activity under the sun. The academics is still shit, the good teachers leave as soon as they get in the door once they see what's going on in the place; the only teachers that stick around are the people who do it for a fucking paycheck or the ones who are dumb and sadistic enough to "buy in". The place is run like communist Russia, and those who cause too much trouble get sent to "outpost" or Redcliff. I would like to have another forum, one for Hyde. Any takers?

Is there some tie-up, financial or otherwise, between Hyde and RedCliff Ascent?  I see Hyde is advertized on the RedCliff website as a "Traditional Boarding School".

Anon, Hyde gets away with the "traditional
boarding school" business because they've been
clever about mixing "non-gulag" kids into their
student body. First, faculty members are required
to enroll their high school-age kids at Hyde.
Second, Hyde recruits talented jocks from the
ghetto with promises of an education at an "elite
prep school". These first two groups attend Hyde
at no charge as "scholarship" students. Third,
parents of the more traditional gulag school kids
are expected to send ALL of their high school-age
kids to Hyde - at full price of course.
These three groups taken together slightly outnumber
the gulag school kids and tend to be the enforcers.
Hope that clears up any confusion on the "prep
school" issue.
OD, I'd like to see a Hyde board too. Haven't
proposed it because until you started posting I
didn't see all that many Hyde people on Fornits
and most of those seemed only to post once.

Yes, I knew that.  You have mentioned it before, hence the quotes.  I was more interested about the connection with RedCliff Ascent.  I think RedCliff would have been after your time.  Perhaps OD knows?

Oppositional Defiance:
As far as the connection between Hyde and Redcliff Ascent goes, most likely they are NOT under the same management, however they DO appear to have a very strong business relationship. 90% of people I knew when I was there who came to Hyde from a wilderness/reform/brainwashing camp came there from Redcliff Ascent. Likewise, children who got on 2-4 too much were _always_ sent to Redcliff as a last resort. Usually they would be sent to outpost first, which is within the Hyde business and keeps the money in the same pool, but after outpost they would be sent to Redcliff. I have never been to Outpost, but from what people have told me the 7 day excursion consists of a very heavy exercise regimen, strict discipline, and physical labor. Redcliff, of course, lasts for at least 2 months and is a deathmarch through the Utah desert. Escorts would come to Hyde and surprise the kids, usually while they were being held in Dean's Area, cuff them and haul them off. Speaking of Dean's Area, in order to obtain more confessions, they would put a kid in a classroom with the heater turned all the way up and leave them there at a desk with a sheet of paper and a pencil. They had to write down everything they knew, not only about what "ethics" they had personally broken, but ethics their friends had broken, ethics they have heard secondhand about being broken from other people, and even rumors about ethic breaking. If there were things that the student hadn't written down yet, or even if it was _suspected_ that the kid still had more to spill, the dean or dean assistant would give them back the paper and leave them in the room for a few more hours, or put heavy pressure on them, or use intimidation, until they had extracted what they wanted to see written down. One time I was sent on 2-4 because my SONOFABITCH "friend" Rob Ebling ratted out to Dean's Area that I told him that I knew that Jesse Wang had cigarrettes. This was during a "bust". During a bust sometimes half the fucking school would be on 2-4. I say we get our own forum for Hyde School. This could be very useful in taking down Hyde, as it still exists.
