"skeptics are not only smug, but are pathetically provincial and insular. Skeptics come to believe strongly in skepticism, and they are very orthodox. Far form being liberating, skepticism leads men/women into cruel, conceptual cul de sacs."
"Faith proceeds on to promised knowledge. It develops us and it delivers us to new data. Skepticism starts with some unprovable declarations and ends there too."
"If you look closelly, you will be able to see many so-called skeptics who keep one eye on the dikes of disbelief and who seem to have a small rowboat nearby."

What is this, something out of the book of Mormon? Probably John Smith's retort to criticism about "marrying" a bevy of thirteen year olds.

Speculations on the Origin of Human Intelligence: "In defense of the Pygmies, perhaps I should note that a friend of mine who has spent time with them says that for such activities as the patient stalking and hunting of mammals and fish they prepare themselves through marijuana intoxication, which helps to make the long waits, boring to anyone further evolved than a Komodo dragon, at least moderately tolerable. Ganja is, he says, their only cultivated crop. It would be wryly interesting if in human history the cultivation  of marijuana led generally to the invention of agriculture, and thereby to civilization.

"Poor" souls? They make a fortune off these kids, and don't even feed them 3 meals a day.
Get off it!

I do believe Tom Greene the fellow MORMAN with all his little "child brides" was from the same little town of Nephi, Utah too wasn't he before he started living at the expense of the State of Utah in some fine prison there,---now wasn't he?

Just how many little girls was he "married" to?

if they were such bad people why would you have to bash their religion?

True or False

1. Polygamy or plural marriage (aka The Principle) was one of the tenets and practices of the early LDS church. - True

2. The main LDS church officially disavowed polygamy in the late 19th century. (One of the conditions for Utah's statehood.) - True

3. One of the doctrines of the LDS church is that a faithful Mormon man will be rewarded with multiple wives in the hereafter. -True, but you may get some arguments about this.

4. There remain dissident groups of "Mormon Fundamentalists" who believe the mainstream church is in "apostasy" on the subject of "The Principle"  and continue to practice polygamy.  - True

5. The mainstream church maintains that these dissident groups are themselves in apostasy. Modern LDS (Mormons) who practice polygamy may be excommunicated by the mainstream church. - True

I can't see that this is bashing anyone, and if I'm wrong on any of these facts, let me know.

Vain are the thousand creeds that move men's hearts, unutterably vain, worthless as wither'd weeds.

Sounds like Polygamy is OK with the LDS church then.  SO why do they get all upset about it?
If it was MY church, and I was a guy who could afford a bunch of young pretty wives, and the wives didn't mind sharing, and it was legally OK, the WHY THE HECK NOT?

But it doesn't sound REALLY FAIR unless it works the other way around---- Could a wife have a string of good looking young husbands?

I'm really starting to wonder how much of the "school" is influenced by religion.  All the references to good vs. evil, the intense "familial" bonds and now the defensiveness when someone posts something less than flattering about the Mormon religion.

Can one of you explain the religious aspect of Whitmore?  How much of your "education" is devoted to your religious studies?  Do you just attend services or do you study the teachings?

I cannot see how a man of any large degree of humorous perception can ever be religious -- unless he purposely shut the eyes of his mind and keep them shut by force.
