CALVINA FAYE AND ROBERT DUPONT ON C-SPAN

David Evans of Drug Free Schools and Rob Kampia of MJ Policy Project were on at 0800.  The US Supreme Court is acting today on the medical marijuana initiative so opposed by Straight (DFAF).  Evans is tied to DFAF.  I wanted to call in but they never gave a number to call.  I sent the following email to MPP:

Ref.:  Debate between David Evans and Rob Kampia on C-SPAN 11-29-04

Dear Mr. Mirken and Ms. Oechslin:

For 17 years Straight, Inc. was one of the most destructive juvenile drug rehabilitation programs ever. Kids were made to urinate and defecate on themselves.  They were spat upon, beaten and forced to reveal their deepest, darkest sexual secrets.  Kids routinely carved on their bodies to attract attention to themselves to stop the torture.  They had to be watched 24/7 to keep them from commiting suicide.  There have been over 40 post-Straight suicides.

Straight is no longer in the treatment business.  It now receives federal funds to help small businesses  setup drug-free work places.  It is also a think tank for national and international drug policy.  In 1995 Straight Foundation, Inc. changed its name to Drug Free America Foundation (DFAF):

David Evans was with The Legal Foundation Against Illicit Drugs which was founded by Calvina Fay, executive director of DFAF  and others.  He is also a member of DFAF's  Institute on Global Drug Policy as shown here:
http://www.onpointradio.org/shows/2002/ ... b_main.asp

A caller named Joyce (I didn't hear her last name) called in during the referenced show and quoted former NIDA director Dr. Robert DuPont.  I wouldn't be surprised if the caller turned out to be Joyce Nalepka.  One reason for Straight's success is that it was advocated by Dr. DuPont.  Dr. DuPont went around the country and testified for Straight in many of its civil trials for abusing kids.  Today Dr. DuPont is on DFAF's (Straight's) advisory board.  In Vernonia School District v. Wayne Acton to force high school athletes to undergo suspicionless drug testing  there was only one expert medical witness used--Robert DuPont.  Dr. DuPont is chair of scientific advisory board of Psychemedics--the world's premier hair testing company.  It would appear that  the more kids are tested, the more money he stands to make.

David Evans of The Legal Foundation Against Illicit Drugs  and  Dr. Eric Voth (Chairman of DFAF's Institute on Global Drug Policy)  co-authored an Amicus Curiae brief in support of the US government's effort to remove California's Proposition 215 for medical MJ.

In 2002 the US Supreme Court ruled 5 to 4 in POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY  v. EARLS  in favor of suspicionles drug testing for school kids involved in any activity even chorus.  By its split decision it is evident the judges were not sure themselves.  Certainly they were influenced by an Amicus brief signed by a group of American professionls. But look at the signatures.  The brief was written by David Evans.  Robert DuPont signed along with his business partner Peter Bensinger (former head of the DEA) and Julie Murdoch, Esq. (an employee with Bensinger, DuPont & Associates).  DuPont's company Bensinger DuPont & Associates  signed.  Another DuPont company The Institute for Behavior & Health signed.  The Institute on Global Drug Policy (a division of  DFAF) signed.  Eric Voth, MD (he is the director of DFAF's  Institute on Global Drug Policy) signed.  Also signing were Ambassador Melvyn Levitsky who has co-authored an article on drug policy with Dr. Eric Voth;  Donald Ian Macdonald, M.D. (Straight's former national research director turned White House Drug Czar); Stephanie Haynes of Save Our Society From Drugs TM,  (SOS is a Betty Sembler foundation);  Legal Foundation Against Illicit Drugs (an organization founded by Calvina Fay, executive director of DFAF, and others);  Otto Hauswirth, M D, of the International Scientific and Medical Forum on Drug Addicts (DFAF's Calvina Fay is director the International Scientific and Medical Forum on Drug Abuse); Carolyn Burns, of Louisville, KY (Straight had a very active Straight parent named Carolyn Burns.  It is not known whether this is the same person.)

Here are two articles I wrote that mention Evans' relationship with Straight:
