Deb, Rush is one of the better examples of the real, simple truth about the war on certain, unpatentable drugs not sold by Anhueizer Büsch or Seagrams. Last I checked, ol'e Rush was doing just exactly what I had publicly predicted he would; using his radio show as free advertising for the treatment cult that kept his flabby ass out of prison.
Think Ockam's Razor here. You have to go through some pretty strenuous logical gymnastics to explain why pot and coca and MDMA are illegal while tobbacco is, not only legal, but federally subsidized, alcohol is legal and dangerous psyche drugs are not only legal and often paid for w/ public funding, but also actually mandated by law or policy more and more frequently.
The simpler explanation that explains the whole circus at least as well, if not better, is that the drug war is all about control. It's perfectly ok, even heroic, for Rüsh to get hooked on opiates, so long as he declares himself powerless and remorseful and blames the drugs for his illegal or irresponsible behavior. The crime is certainly not doing drugs. The crime is doing drugs of one's own volition; without direct orders from a government certified 'professional' to do so.
Religion is based . . . mainly on fear . . . fear of the mysterious, fear of defeat, fear of death. Fear is the parent of cruelty, and therefore it is no wonder if cruelty and religion have gone hand in hand. . . . My own view on religion is that of Lucretius. I regard it as a disease born of fear and as a source of untold misery to the human race.
