I haven't thought about this time in my life for years now.  Looking back it seems so surrealistic!   I came across this site after all this was brought up for me again recently. I'm glad it's here!

I didn't realize that was such an active community of Survivors out there.  Perfect termed for it. Have you ever tried to explain Straight or your experiences there to someone?  People look at you like you're crazy.  And yet it really happened!

Anyway...I'm wondering who might be here that would have been in Springfield in 1982 when we came up from Fla? My name is Anne Cornish.  My sister, brother and I were all in the Program at that time.  I'd like to know how the people I knew are doing.  I'm also trying to remember all the names.  Some I'll never forget: Dean, Scott and Paula Profett, Scott Blaze (?).  Others I'm not sure I remember: Wendy Bright?  Did she have a brother on staff?  There was dark complexed, almost Indian looking young woman on jr. staff whose name I can't remember.  Man, who thought I'd ever forget these things.  I thought I'd be able to quote the 7 steps in my sleep for the rest of my life!

Hope all of you have found some peace! Take care!

Hey Anne,

This is Colleen McDonough.  I'm so glad to hear from you.  I've wondered about what happened to you since that time.  I vividly remember many of the abuses that you endured.  I always wondered why you were even there.  You were only like 12 weren't you?

How are Kathy and Mike doing.  I saw mike about 7 years ago coming into the drivethru at the bank I worked at.  He looked so different.

If you want to I would love to get together some time.  Please let me know.  (540)837-2398.  Peacepupppy@yahoo.com

Hi Anne,
This is Kathy Barry.  I remember you guys well, was a newcomer or something like that at your house with Kathy I believe.  I've been wondering about you and your family.  I was so jealous that you and your brother got to leave.  I always wondered how Kathy felt being the only one "left behind."  You never belonged in that program, none of you did, and neither did I.  That place was a crime.
Hope you are doing well now.  Would love to hear from you again!  How did you hear about this site?

take care,
kathy

Yeah, I turned 13 a month and a half after I went in. Had never been drunk or high in my life.

We're all doing good now.  I'm a mental health therapist.  Just got married this year.  Kathy is married w/two girls. She's a teacher.  Mike is dating someone great and has his own construction company.

I wish there was like a yearbook or something.  I remember your names and faces but am not sure I'm putting them together correctly!  How are you doing? 540 - you're out in Marshall or somewhere?

I remember you too!  How are you doing?  Actually, Mike and I didn't get to leave.  We both ran.  I ran the once, got brought back for a month or so and then ran again.  My dad went to court and got custody of me.  Mike hid out with family out of state until he was 18.  It was a crazy, crazy time.

I actually found this site looking on the web for info ie Straight.  I found myself thinking about it recently and wanted to see if I could find out what happened to people. Staff and other kids.  I found a list of people's names but that was it.

How are you doing?

Things are going really well in my life. I would love to hear from Kathy and Mike, are they still in this area? How is your mom? your dad?

Will you tell us your two great escape stories?  I love to hear these.  I was always too scared to run, but wished I had.

You know what is funny?  The last time I saw you you were 13, and Kathy was about 15, and those are the only images I have in my head of you guys.  I got to thinking the other day, that that's probably an outdated picture.  I'm sure all these years later you guys look different.  Would love to see you again sometime.
