I tried to talk to my folks (this was 17 years ago) but it's hard for them to believe a qualified counselor referred them to a cult.  Also, the group think/rap abuse is harder to get their head around than physical abuse.  This is why I'd love to find a book that describes a CEDU-like experience.  I don't think I could write it though; I'm not good at putting stuff together and I think I've blocked a lot out.

Has anybody ever talked to any staff post -grad and let them have a piece of your mind?  As an adult, they wouldn't have the power over me they used to--I sometimes fantasize about confronting them (verbally) about their BS therapy.

heh, the ones I have actually talked to refuse to believe that CEDU is evil. Of course some are a bit bent that CEDU gave them the boot, but they refuse to believe that they were part of the problem...and that my friends is the problem

They talked to my parents and convinced them that I had to stay. They kept telling me I had to stay there or I would be sucking cock on Hollywood Blvd. The thing they missed was my brother, I split after a few months and moved in with him.

"They never did anything by the book - They were abusing kids themselves - Why would they report abuse?
I waa a therapist there and I reported the abuse directly to child protective services. I was nieve. i tyhought the state really cared. After going to the attorney general and the govenor I realized that there is no state proterction - just state paid workers who take our tax dollars to pretend they have a function when actually all they do is collude to take federal grants.
I'm now a converted libritarian who wants to eradicate government"

Life is a very wonderful thing.\' said Dr. Branom... \'The processes of life, the make- up of the human organism, who can fully understand these miracles?... There is one night in the summit in which the staff have a party, about six or eight of them, while the students are instructed to expose deep, emotional introspection.  Does anyone understand how this high level of disrespectful behavior fits in with emotional growth?  In my summit, the staff actully had a farting contest while students are being forced to expose deeply seeded psychological issues about themselves.

What was this about?

Wes has links to a lot of publications that you might find helpful.

A Piece of Blue Sky: Scientology, Dianetics and L. Ron Hubbard Exposed

Margaret Thaler Singer, Ph.D., author, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, cult expert

FactNet, http://www.factnet.org/ , is also a good resource.

Steve Hassan, http://www.freedomofmind.com/ , has a couple of books out on the topic.

If you can't find the titles you're interested in from your local library (and most will ship books from anywhere in the state for free), ask around here. Maybe somebody's got a copy they'd be willing to loan out.

The fatal pedagogical error is to throw answers, like stones, at the heads of those who have not yet asked the questions.
