Synanon and the Step program
Tony Stark:
Does anybody know where all the link to our AA combined 7 steps come in? Are we ill to believe in that for our problem solving? I know about the big book and all that stuff, but is it wrong?

ARt always claimed his entire inspiration for the Seed came from AA and he incorporated the AA steps into the synanon model.
What we don't know is where he got his synanon experience. Art was a well known rabid AA follower and claimed to get Art Carnie Straight.
this is how the AA steps got incorporated into the Straight, Life, Kids model. It was by none other than Art Barker, and it occured in 1970
Whether it is "wrong" or not to incorporate the AA steps into your life is some kind of individual decision.
Personally it creeps me out, those little simpleton sayings that supposedly are life changing. The real power of the program was in coersion and brainwashing tactics, not Steps, rules, or serenity prayers.

I think it's like any other philosophy. It depends on how you use it. I've known Christians who are just made of love and light and attribute it all to their religion and others who use the same religion to justify their deep seated sadism. I can't say I know a lot of steppers who I would say live so as to demonstrate the goodness of the philosophy. But then, maybe I know them and I just don't know they're steppers. My experience with the philosophy and it's adherants has left more than a bad taste in my mouth. Your milage may vary.

Thank you both for your opinion. I have a doctor that tells me its just some kind of devil-worship to use the 6th step.I am not a Christian but I do believe in a god of some type that is self-edifying. I just don't like somebody telling me I hangout with spirits but don't understand God. I am assuming the doctor is right and he puts me on a shelf. The other problem is that I wonder if they are not just kindred spirits of somekind and not devils at all. God as I understand Him is something over my head. I don't understand God. :smokin:
The scarcest resource is not oil, metals, clean air, capital, labor, or technology. It is our willingness to listen to each other and learn from each other and to seek the truth rather than seek to be right.
