(Grand Cayman - CITN) -

One judge makes Cayman Islands judicial history with his sentence for a troubled teenager.

According to CNS Justice Aalgernon Smith says he wants to send a 16-year-old boy to boot camp in the United States after the teen plead guilty to a charge of possessing an unlicensed firearm.

It's believed to be the first time in this country's history that such a sentence has been handed down. The acting justice from Jamaica says he wants to give the boy another chance and feels he could benefit from the program more than a probation order. The teen would attend the Second Nature Wilderness Program in Georgia before going to boarding school in Utah.

The boy involved in this case was charged after being arrested during a police operation in West Bay in May, 2010.
