Lupus

This is probably the last place I should ask about lupus, but In was wondering if anyone knows anything about it from a "real people" perspective. (Everything sounds alike on web md)

The lady who works for me here has lupus. She was out for several days recently with a flare up. She gets fever, her hands swell up, her joints ache tremendously particularly the knees. It isn't pretty. Fortunately she only has it flare up once a year or so.

All I can suggest is take a look at the life extension foundation. org.... Maybe of some help.. They are a clearing house for non-fda approved therapies, they make their money from the sale of nutrients...Having worked for and with them in the past, I'll attest that they will not say anything to anyone about anything unless there's a ton of research to back it up. They'd be happy to work with your physician. Most of the research comes from U.S. medical colleges. Could be a very useful resource. J.O.M.
Post script; Having worked in clinical reference for many years, I can surely tell you that "non-FDA approved", does not in any way imply bad or wrong or quackery. Here's a hint. if the doctor can't explain it on you on a postcard, it means that he or she does not truly understand it... look further, ask more questions.. After all, one of the deadliest drugs available in the U.S. is.......Tylenol. but it's FDA approved.

I will definitely look at life extension. I'm not sold on traditional meds and docs anyway.
but I am curious - why is Tyelonol one of worst?  I don't doubt it and don't atke it, but very curious.

Tylenol causes liver damage. cumulatively. Unlike cirrhosis, which is liquor or diet caused,(with hereditary pre-disposition) Tylenol poisoning cannot be reversed by high dose vitamin b treatment. The only ( to my knowledge) effective treatment for tylenol poisoning is a a high-dose Taurine drip. Taurine is an amino acid. Absolutely not approved by the FDA, nor the AMA, and thus forbidden by  the "community standard "rule.. Medically, real bad sin, much worse if the patient lives.  A Danish Doctor(no, no, not the damn pastry) told me that denmark is a bicycle country, so they get a lot of head trauma. In Denmark, if he did not initiate treatment with DMSO, he'd be jailed. Here, If he so much as suggested DMSO, He'd be Jailed. Dmso has a more than 50 year clinical history and is widely used to great effect in veterinary medicine. OOps! I guess i got a little cynical there. Cautionary note... Dmso is a universal carrier molecule, so don't ever use it from a plastic container.. Brown glass only, and Pharmaceutical grade only! Hard to find, and no, I ain't telling what I don't know.
Hope that helps
( I know you hate the the damn guns, but I'm a redneck, it's fall, and it's what we do! And I love that sound!)

J.O.M: I'm not sure the entirety of your persona could be cast under one heading (redneck...) Methinks you oversimplify.... ;)

OK, you bring your guns, I'll bring the  :peace:

@ JOM & Samara,
Just had a very good friend of mine, her oldest daughter die of a apparent overdose of Tylenol ( not taken intentionally). We do not believe for a second she took Tylenol to kill herself she just did not pay attention. Extremely sad. Her liver was as such it could not handle the extended dose. Why they do not post in bold letters the potential for deadly consequences on the bottle is beyond me.

@ Samara, Lupus is in the same family as; Fibromyalgia. Maybe this is another source to look for information and treatment.

If you take Tylenol every day then sure you will run the risk of damage.  But most people dont do that, if you are experiencing the type of pain that requires taking Tylenol on a daily basis then you should see a doctor to determine root cause and take care of the problem.  Most people require tylenol once a month or a few times a year.
Also on those days that you do take Tylenol or anything with Acetaminophen in it you should refrain from drinking any alcohol.  This combination is known to quickly cause liver damage.

OK. Thank God I'm not big on Tylenol. I don't take it because it doesn't work for me. I'm actually not big on any pharma at all, OTC or otherwise. I take Excedrin about twice a month, but usually just bear it. I sure as hell hope Excederin isn't as bad as Tylenol. One glass of red and a hot bath is my elixir of choice.  No harm, no foul.

As far as lupus, the pattern/titer of several tests indicates something in that family. However, I can't get into the specialist for a few more weeks. We have disqualified look alikes such as lyme. I will look into fibro. I hope to take a holistic approach. The one thing I don't have at all is swelling.

There are so many better approaches to problems than going to the doctors (or your local pharmacies) and taking their medications.  Think of it as going to McDonalds for your nutrition.  If you have a "Whole Foods" store nearby that would be a good start for someone new and they are good at communicating to people who are starting out.  Start talking to people who have ties to Eastern Medicine or non-traditional approaches to health.  Look at all aspects of your life, environmental, social, nutritional and physical relationships and plan on making major changes if you want to get better and stay healthy.
There is no need to be a slave to the pharmacology industry or your local health care system if you start early enough.

Whooter's full of crap, and dangerously so. It is fact that most patients sucessfuly self-diagnose. And that most good doctoring is bound by listening, preaching be damned.
