ok i see your point in this, why is it others can plaster addresses and other photos, but we have a mini melt down when we post one for reasons you did not try to understand, but the ones from Elan did thou? You got pages and pages of addresses and phone numbers for all the world to see, to me that is just as wrong as other things.  Its hard to stop the freedom of speech and expression when half the site is on a role . Art Barkers privacy is just as importaint and Mel Sembler, Newton Miller, Joe Ricci etc. But yet it is so important to the pursuit of justice. By baning real info, stifles the effect of true pursuit.I commend the folk that post Art Bakers info and the others ways they investigate and stand up to folks. That is how you change something is to bring it to light. The key Danny is to stay out of the light.To cesor post , just chases people away and makes it hard to be open and speack.Why are so many of Danny post gone by his own hand ??. Some people keep that stuff for reposting one day when he speack differently about something he said.He cried to the Directors of the site then attacked them in front of everyone.I have looked and there is no Lee Bennison.Only Daniel lee Bennison. As Danny said Google him. Google Lee Bennison and all you seem to get is Danny lee Bennison.One comes up as a realtor with red hair etc, younger probably his son. if you look at the photos they do look similar to Lee Bennisons photo.at Elan.and Danny lee bennison comes up in Woodstock Ga.as well if you fol ow the realtor he also has trails to Ga. Just a guess but I bet I am right if not close, Dannys response will tell it all.What if it comes out he is an Elan spy who would be the hero for exposing that

Mark, I think they are intending to more censor the bitches, assholes, and cunts..that waste up space on here, not true fact information. I believe there is hope to tone down the flat out attacking thru words, and protect the ones on here for their personal information being given out. Folks, what seems to amaze me and others that read this, is how you believe that I really give a rats ass what you are or are not doing/saying. Really !!! lol
I have never been in relationship/harmony w/ any of you and stopped thinking it would happen months ago. Yes I am fond of some of you
but that is not enough to bridge the large gap that has been created here. Felice there is no common ground to meet on, b/cuz really that
is not what your asking for, your asking me to prove to you I deserve to be on that ground. What is to be gained by me doing this, sorry I don't see much to be gained.
I came here to do something and making friends was really not high on the list, I already have friends. Now I don't mind making more but I will not
compromise my values, ethics or ambitions to do this. This is called staying focused and on task.  Danny

I can appreciate that fully, however this man has not redeemed himself as you all think he has, once again he made erroneous complaints and destroyed my website. I have had it with this man harrassing me and others from Elan. I am beyond pissed off that this is continuing. I will never forgive the guy nor will anything he says mean a thing to the Elan ex students. Twenty years ago, admission to a residential school was virtually a life sentence. In 2004, residential programs began to solicit input from students, encourage more family involvement and create safer living conditions. Today, residential schools reflect ongoing change and evolution.

A 30-year veteran in the field, Paul L. Dann, Ph.D., executive director of NFI North, outside of Concord, N.H., has seen some dramatic changes in residential care in the last five years. He lists the complexity of diagnoses as well as the national trend away from residential placement as the biggest changes, with shrinking resources as the biggest challenge. "Many [children] have co-occurring diagnoses. It may be substance abuse, mental health issues or cognitive functioning," he says. "We also get more referrals for Asperger's and gender-specific services."

While NFI North, an extension of the North American Family Institute (NAFI), traditionally follows a normative approach - creating a positive group culture and examining how students can move toward identified goals - treatment has shifted toward evidence-based practices as a way to "understand the complexity of human behavior," Dann says. He cites cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational enrichment therapy as two current treatment options.

Families have also become the "drivers" of care, explains Dann. "In years past, we would partner with the family. Now we let the family drive where we're going," he says, citing traditional family meetings to create a treatment plan and identify goals and objectives as key to successful therapy. "We reach out to families at all levels of the treatment process. This is different than an expert telling them what to do," Dann says.

At 105-year old Mount St. John Inc., in Deep River, Conn., behavioral diagnoses continue to be the focus, although more students are presenting with eating disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder and depression, according to Executive Director Douglas J. DeCerbo. Some students "have been exposed to behavior on the streets and a lot have come from the juvenile system," he notes. To adapt to this population, the school's treatment options have evolved. "Our Step Up program teaches the skills to deal with behavior, instead of trying to correct the behavior only," DeCerbo says. "Now a lot of focus has been placed on integrating the child into society.

Shortened lengths of stay have contributed to the newer treatment methods. "In the past, a length of stay could be two or three years," says DeCerbo. "Now, it's nine months or less, unless there is a placement tie-up." From the time of admission, the plan is to prepare students for re-integration into society. "As soon as they [students] come in, we're already looking at a discharge plan," he says.

To address life beyond residential care, Mount St. John is in the process of developing a vocational program. "We are affiliated with Homebuilders Institute in Washington, D.C. The students get certified in maintenance and 'greening.' They get school credit and work in an apprentice program," DeCerbo says.

The philosophy regarding restraints and seclusion has also shifted. DeCerbo reports that Mount St. John has reduced its use of restraints by 30 percent, although he says there are times when this strategy is necessary. "But the emphasis is on prevention. We're always looking to de-escalate behavior," he says. "The whole field is going in that direction."

Advances in electronic communications have created opportunities and benefits non-existent in the past. "Technology has helped in many areas: sharing and recording information, delivery of services, reaching distances and has saved resources," says Dann. NFI North uses a Web-based client record system, which helps to consolidate information. "All permissions, reports, treatment plans are electronic," he says. "There is a huge amount of data available. Before it was spread around in bits and pieces."

Given that NFI North has facilities across New Hampshire and Maine, computerized systems facilitate communications. "My geographic area takes more than seven hours to cover," says Dann. "Now we can connect and engage people."

Students are also tied in electronically through the Plato learning system, a virtual classroom. Dann says, "Students who can't deal with the classroom can get on the computer and get a terrific education."

Mount St. John also offers a virtual learning program of 18 modules that are linked to the state board of education. "Going back to high school at 18 is difficult," says DeCerbo. "[Students] are not as much of an outcast if they can earn some credits while in a residential facility."

Not all residential schools have seen significant change, however. ::OMG::  The Elan School in Poland Springs, Maine has maintained its focus on serving children with oppositional defiant disorder, according to Jerry Sapan, Ph.D., clinical psychologist. He notes some increase in Asperger's, posttraumatic stress disorder, attentive disorders and depressive disorder (NOS), but emphasizes that the model of care remains the same. "We have a methodical, thorough, assiduous, lengthy program," he says. The school attempts to build character, a strong work ethic and self-esteem through task mastery, Sapan explains.

Although diagnoses upon admission and therapy remain the same, parental involvement has increased. Many of Elan's students come from across the country as well as from overseas so face-to-face encounters become challenging, Sapan says. "A few years ago, we started a Web cam for family sessions. This has improved the family component." While length of stay has been significantly reduced at most schools, Elan's philosophy of no psychotropic medications results in a typical stay of 2.5 years. "A shorter length of stay is due to medications," says Sapan. "We don't believe in masking a child's feelings. They need to learn how to deal with shame, discomfort and anxiety."

While Elan supports Web sessions between students and families, the school allows access to email only under supervision. "Some of the students are computer addicted. They are too much into virtual violence and porno," says Sapan. "I'm amazed at how many young children, six and seven-years-old, are watching porn."

Although he agrees with treating in the least restrictive setting, DeCerbo says that residential care has its place. "Residential [treatment] can be a viable treatment piece of the whole continuum for children. There should be a whole continuum depending on treatment needs and the best interest of the child."
