Alternative Education for Middle School and High School Aged Teens

Parents typically look for alternative high schools because their son/daughter is not succeeding in the "normal" high school environment. Alternative schools service troubled teens who are failing in school because of add, adhd, bi-polar, depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and many other problems. Public school districts are required by law to offer alternative education to teens who struggle with succeeding in traditional schools. Alternative schools help prevent school drop-out by offering smaller class sizes for high school or middle school aged boys and girls, a more flexible curriculum, and better accommodation for behavioral problems. If your teen is failing in his/her schooling, please refer to the information below.

Alternative schooling has been available as a service paid for by school districts for many years and is an option that thousands of parents take advantage of each year. Most states have laws requiring their school districts to provide alternative education to teens failing in school. Many states will even pay for a troubled teen to attend a private boarding school if the teen has been diagnosed with a problem that the school district can not accommodate. States are typically obligated to pay up to $7,000.00 a month for teens that can not make it in their school districts. To find out if your son/daughter will qualify call 1-800-845-1380 to speak with one of our dedicated counselors. One reason many states require their school districts to offer these services is that the average high school drop-out will end up costing the state almost a million dollars over their lifetime. It makes sense for the school district to do everything within their power to prevent even one of their students from dropping out of high school and entering the working population without an education.

Alternative schools provide much more accommodation for behavior problems then traditional high school and they usually offer a little more patience then is found in high school. In a setting with smaller class sizes, teens may benefit from a one on one environment which helps prevent them from slipping through the cracks as many candidates for alternative schooling have. Also, alternative high schools will be a little more flexible with their students in regards to attendance and homework. With the bar being greatly lowered, in some cases, the average teen who attends an alternative high school is more likely to succeed.

For parents who have unsuccessfully tried sending their teen to a school district provided alternative school, there are additional options available such as wilderness programs, boot camps, military schools, therapeutic boarding schools, and residential treatment centers.
