New Website
« on: March 22, 2009, 09:33:18 AM »
Hi Everyone
I have made a website. The basic Idea is that it is a sort of "anti Marketing" website. Any google search involving the troubles of adolescents brings up a tsunami of program marketing sites. This gets in the way of sites that simply have bonafide information on how to cope with whatever issue the family is struggling with. The aim of this site is to pop up amongst the propaganda and provide links to helpful sites that address the problems parents are seeking help for as well highlighting other sites like Isacorp. Should any one wish to make a similar site with the copy please go ahead. It is designed to try and counter the saturation marketing so the more the merrier. Also if you have a site that you want included on the useful links page and it is a referral free zone then flip me a PM & I will include it
cheers

Not wishing to be tooooo pissy, but not sure how I feel about your characterization of fornits (useful links page). First, you make it sound like there are mostly young people who post here (as opposed to the "old scholars" on Cafety). Is that the case? If so, that's news to me. I always thought fornits was kind of a multi-generational project. Not to mention that all POVs are welcome here, which is unique to this place, and an important aspect to the "uncensored" bit. And secondly, characterizing it as "interesting reading" the way that you did (preceded by the phrase "can be highly offensive"), carries vague connotations that it is not to be taken entirely seriously. Which is a little insulting. I think phrasing it as "highly informative reading" would be more appropriate.

That said, all in all, good show, and a great idea!

fair enough. I will revise the wording a bit. Sit tight.

However. I am afraid that as much as I love fornits it can be highly offensive at times. Particularly to the delicate sensibilities of a potentially conservative parent :seg: . I think it is only fair to give ample warning there. As to the expression Old Scholar I am afraid it is my not very american vernacular. Have reworded it as alumni

I think fornits can be highly offensive at times.  It's part and parcel of it being uncensored/unmoderated.  It's worth warning, but with the caveat that there can still be some very informative reading here.

I have no problem with warning people (maybe some others do). However, I do have a problem with its placement in the paragraph, which implies a certain judgment on the writer's part that I'm sure is just not seen ("writer's blind spot"). I think it's important to mention that all POVs are welcome, and that it's uncensored. Perhaps you could put the warning at the end, e.g., "Warning: not for the faint of heart or those who are easily offended."

Another foreign internet "activist" whose only concern is catering to the whims of program parents, big surprise.  Don't want to go scaring the parents with *the truth*, now would we?  ::)

Go throw some shrimp on the barbee and leave the activism to those who know what they are doing.  :twofinger:

It looks real nice!  :nods:   Is this what you've been up to lately? I just hope it manages to hold its own amongst the swamp of misleading marketing put out by the TTI...

Thanks for all your hard work, and for sharing it with us!

While I am inclined to lean toward agreeing with you I am still looking for some sites with qualified  references echoing this view as I am not an expert in the field. Do you have any I could take a look at?

ODD is in the DSM as a disorder, so it would be hard to argue with parents that it doesn't exist based on that... *however* the DSM also makes it very, very clear that normal teenage rebelliousness should *not* be labeled ODD, even when parents *think* their kids are "out of control" (very subjective).  Also, if some ed-con labels your kid ODD, it's not a professional diagnosis (Even if parents swallow it).  I'd venture that most kids diagnosed with "ODD" in programs were either labeled as such by an ed-con or some other agent of the program (not an independent physician).

They get labled ODD by shrinks as well. Its bullshit. And what is the difference between this and "normal" rebeliousness. Damned if I can see one.

Symptoms of ODD may include:

frequent temper tantrums
excessive arguing with adults
active defiance and refusal to comply with adult requests and rules
deliberate attempts to annoy or upset people
blaming others for his or her mistakes or misbehavior
often being touchy or easily annoyed by others
frequent anger and resentment
mean and hateful talking when upset
seeking revenge
The symptoms are usually seen in multiple settings, but may be more noticeable at home or at school.  Five to fifteen percent of all school?age children have ODD.
"behaviors" in themselves CANNOT be pathologies, yet this disorder is defined practically exclusively by behaviors! And how the hell are parents supposed to know that their teen "deliberately" annoys people. Are they mind readers? This disorder is made to order for abusive parents justification of their views of their of their kids. There is NO objective proof verifying this disorder it’s just something invented by the AMA in the 80s to create a larger consumer base and grist for the pharmaceutical companies

I'm not saying I disagree with you.  I'm just saying it would be a difficult sell to parents.  I also totally agree that behaviors in themselves cannot be pathologies.  I make this argument often with ... another fictional disease.  lol.

Speaking of offensiveness, I was just re-reading the chronology ofPumpGate. It always gives me the giggles; never quite get over it. Here's this twice named diplomat, man of the world, big swingin' dick who has built his empire, in large part, on a program which routinely inflicted intense and brutal sexual shame upon the children in his charge as a part of its 'treatment' modality. And he lost his cotton pickin mind, made what may well have been the biggest mistake of his entire career over something as silly as an ebay ad selling his penis pump?  :roflmao:

Pussy!

I don't give a flyin run at a rollin donut if them others take offense. In fact I rather enjoy it. This site is here for those of us who wish to actually respect the first and most impotent rule, Honesty, and have at a little truth.

Nice site, yol! Rock on!

for those interested here is a bit of an update. Is still very much a work in progress as I am trying to research any sites I put any links to.
In answer to the person concerned about the ODD question, it does seem that it is recognised as a legitimate disorder. As I go on an entire rant pointing out that homosexuality is not scientifically recognised as a disorder thus not curable by any ministry or boarding school, I would prolly look like a bit of a goose discounting ODD on the basis of my own opinion as a private citizen. However I am keeping my eye out for any legitimate scientists who question its validity.
I would also love it if anyone knew of any good sites offering legal advice for those who need to be removed from sex offender registries for consensual juvenile to juvenile acts. So pls feel free to PM me
Cheers

i wish DJ still posted here. he could give you some links. Dr Charles Huffine of CAFETY and many other professionals think ODD is not legitimate and according to HEAL it is in the process of being removed from the psychological databases
