The Hamilton Southeastern School District's Parents in Partnership team is pleased to announce its upcoming Parent Awareness Night, "Manda's Story: A Narrative of Descent into Drug Addiction". Dr. Mann Spitler will speak about his personal experience with losing his young daughter to drug addiction. The program will be on 7 to 8:45 p.m. March 18th at Hamilton Southeastern HS Leonard Auditorium (door #13).

Parents are invited to bring their teens to this impactful program. Did you know that teenagers whose parents talk to them on a regular basis about the dangers of drug use are 42% less likely to use drugs than those whose parents don't? Take the time to start these conversations now; use this evening to get you started.

Dr. Spitler tells Manda's story so that young people learn to protect themselves from drug addiction. The story also stimulates parents to take the specific actions needed to protect their children. Here are some comments that teens have made about the presentation. "I think that many people in that room will not even try things now because of things he had said." "He was straight up--no lies. He wasn't like a normal speaker telling you only what he is allowed to. He shares everything. He didn't try to scare us or just tell us this is bad. He knew how to get through to people because he actually had the experience of losing someone to drugs."

Two young recovering addicts will be joining Dr. Spitler to answer questions at the end of the presentation. Also available to parents and their teens that evening will be community providers of both drug addiction and recovery programs and teen and family counseling. Those in attendance will be: Aspen Education Group, Behavioral Care-Community Health Network, Behavior Corp., Clarian Behavioral Health, Fairbanks Hospital, Lotus Group, Mathias Counseling and Consulting, New Perspectives of Indiana, Pathway Family Center, and Pro-Active Resources. These providers will be available in the lobby outside the Leonard Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. and after the presentation.

This program is free and open to the public. There will also be two presentations during the day to students. These will take place at Fishers High School from 9:50 to 11 a.m. and at Hamilton Southeastern High School from 2 to 3 p.m. Parents who cannot attend the evening program may come to one of these presentations. Please sign in at the front desk of the school. For more information please contact Suma Kolla at (317) 773-6291.
