UPDATE: Escapees apprehended

By D'Anna Balliett

Two youth assaulted a security guard in their escape from the Thayer Learning Center Tuesday night, July 29. Thayer Learning Center is located in Kidder Missouri.

Caldwell County authorities alerted surrounding law enforcement agencies of the escape at approximately 11:45 p.m. that night. Reports state that a security guard was tied up after being assaulted. Jameson and Fox, the two escapees, were last seen leaving the area on foot.

Reports saying the youth had left on foot had authorities searching in all directions but mainly toward Daviess County. Later information came to police that the boys intended to stop at the McDonald's in Cameron, Mo.

Shortly before 1 a.m., Cameron police were notified that the subjects were in a truck at the McDonald's Drive through. Cameron police, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Caldwell Sheriff arrived on scene.

*
The individuals, Jameson a 15 year old white male and Fox, a 15 to 17 year old white male, were taken into custody and transferred to the Cameron Police department where they were held until being transferred to a juvenile detention center.

According to Cameron Juvenile Officer, Kieth Mathews, the investigation into the incident is ongoing and involves three counties. Information is still being gathered before charges can be filed against the individuals.

Likely because they didn't have murderous intent, just a drive to escape abuse.  They obviously were somewhat criminally minded, they did steal a truck...rather than laying low.

Because unlike people in jail or juvenile detention, they have not committed a crime. They have not even been in court. Perhaps they dress wrong, are picky regarding food or attend the wrong church according to their parents and then they are sent to this horrible place.

If someone entered your home and took your away for one of these typical reasons, it wouldn't make you a killer but for sure you will try to regain your freedom by escaping the facility when the chance comes to you.

They probably stole the truck to facilitate escape. I don't think they're criminally minded. If you have ever run-away, you know it's not easy if you don't have friends to crash with. If you have any sort of disability, or aren't sophisticated it's even worse. Someone sophisticated and adequate would know to contact a lawyer, or be able to find someone sympathetic. Sadly, not all kids have these qualities, or aren't don't stumble onto someone sympathetic. So, some runawys "make it" with comparatively little suffering, others end up doing desperate things they are destroyed by. Some become overwhelmed and commit suicide like George from Benchmark.
When i ran away I had a very bad time. There is so much unnecessary suffering in life.

Has anyone called the police department there to explain what they were likely running from? That if the boys are telling them they are being "_________" at Thayer, it's probably the truth and not a "manipulation tactic."

Many people would believe it. The police office in Boonville believed all the true horror stories about Randall Hinton and WWASPS and Tranquility Bay and Layne Brown. So did the city counsil of Boonville and so did the local news stations. You just have to sound professional and you have to know what you're talking about. It couldn't hurt to try...

I'd say, 10 years ago(?) no one would believe these kids...not so much "not believe" but simply, not  be able to comprehend. People didn't  understand "private prison" or "cultic abuse" or "psychological torture" or be sensitive to what it is to imprisoned without due process, HELLSER, without ever even contemplating a crime, now there is more info out there..

So did anyone contact anyone to help out?
How has this progressed?

well one of the two boys just so happens to be my boyfriend of two years........ jameson. in answer to the question "what were they running from?" well jameson was trying to come home and see me. he has cousins in Missouri and was going to go to them then from there find a way home. but, being who he is, decided to stop at McDonald's for a quick bite to eat. jameson is smart but doesnt use his common sense to realize that stealing a truck and going to Micky D's isnt the smartest thing to do. jameson has never been a criminal but his mother doesnt want to parent him and when jameson finally moved in with me, she called him in as a runaway and got him arrested then sent him away. jameson comes from a troubled family and all he wanted was a family to care for him. as for the other boy, i do not know him thereforw i cannot make any statement as why or what he was running from. jameson has never been involved in drugs and i believe this was his first time being involved in any sort of theft. From research i have done about thayer, it is not a safe place for kids. someone has already died there and the kids do not get proper medical attention.

What kind of progress are there in the case? Will he remain in custody by the police until trial or did the police just skip them back to spare the local taxpayers the burden of expences for the trial? It is important to give this boy both a lawyer and a chance to speak freely during the trial.

Meanwhile what kind of network did Jameson have back home?

Did he have a lot of friends or extended family in conflict with the mother?

If the friends do care and don't want to risk being sent downthere just because the mother can get some discount if she can refer another parent, it would be good for them so lift their behinds from their beds and get into some action to get media attention about the paradox that kids have as little rights regarding their own freedom as the terrorists on the base in Cuba.

Here is some material to create awareness in a mature way.

Flyer in general
Manual to plan a protest
Material to the protest

Remember. Everytime everybody are silent, youths will suffer and return with terrible scars - properly marked for life. There in only one who holds the keys to his release - his parents. By inddirectly telling everybody that this mother did skip out regarding parental responsibility, this pressure could force her to pull him.

But do it mature and show the public that you are in grief. What all the schools tell the parents are that the youth generally are thugs, not care for anyone else and without feelings due to drugs, sex and alcohol.

Lets show them otherwise!

After Jameson's trial, he was just sent to a detention center a couple hours away from thayer. all charges were dropped. As for the other boy, again i do not know. But for Jameson, everything happened very fairly and he will still be away from home the same amount of time that he was originally going to be gone for, which is good. We all miss him so much and it will be nice to have our best friend back, and for me, well my boyfriend haha.  And what do you mean by network.... but most of his friends, and well me, stayed out of the mother's way, and the only other family in the valley was his grandma, who got along with the mother just fine. But being the ones who spent all of our time with Jameson, we grew to not like his mom because, even though we stayed out of the way, she still kept calling him, wanting him to come home. that is understandable but when ever he walked into his house, she would order him around like a servant and not treat him like she should treat her son. She always yelled at him and never let him do anything but work for her. So he left. His mom is a strange one and people avoid her as much as possible. I personally dont think she really cares if Jameson is involved with any type of drugs or alcohol or experimenting with sex... all she cares about it getting what she wants, when she wants it. She has two kids that she hardly sees because she is often working, but when she does, its not good, at all.

It's good to hear that Jameson is in a better facility, I don't suppose you have a newspaper article or some other documentation that can be used to verify your post?  If you do have access to such information please post it on the board.  I was also wondering how the police in that area feel about Thayer?  I'm sure this isn't the first time they have had issues with that place.  Thanks again.
