I went there.

I'm just putting up a topic in case anyone wants information, discussion, etc. I noticed a lot of Swift River talk, and ALE and ASR are pretty tightly connected.

According to an article, which the Fornits wiki page has as a link, an entire group of detainees and staff got lost.

They had to be rescued.

Dont they have GPS units or it is just too expensive considering how much profit they are making?

Please post as much of the personal information of the staff as you have.

I happened to stumble upon the following completely by accident. I am sure that this does not comprise the entirety of the ALE/ASR connection, but I found it interesting none the less. This is the brief bio of the #2 person in the Admissions Dept. at Academy at Swift River. Note that the Admissions Dept. is THE marketing face of a program.

Roma Thurrell, Nicole - Associate Director of Admissions

Nicole has been working for Aspen Education Group since 2000. Since she started she has held several positions - Wilderness Field Instructor for SUWS of the Carolinas, Health Director and Director of Admissions for Adirondack Leadership Expeditions, and now she is the Associate Director of Admissions here at ASR. After earning her Psychology and Recreation Therapy degrees from the University of North Carolina, she worked as an EMT and then taught Kindergarten at the Capital City Public Charter School in Washington D.C. and a United Cerebral Palsy Developmental Center in Wilmington, NC. She was a Listening Therapist at a Tomatis Treatment Center for kids in the autistic spectrum, worked as an Inclusion Specialist at Camp Sealth on Vashon Island in Washington State, toured with a professional contemporary dance company based in Washington D.C., and sat on the planning committee and advisory board for New Hanover County Arboretum‘s Ability Garden designed for people with physical disabilities. Nicole has a deep respect for individuals and families who have the courage to face themselves and engage in the kind of work that we ask of them. She is a die hard Humanist believing in everyone‘s innate goodness and ability to grow and self-actualize. When she is not working with our families, Nicole can be found with her husband Adam and her son Levi snowshoeing, telemark skiing, practicing yoga and Reiki, designing and cooking meals from locally grown and organic foods, and singing Kirtan.

Here is one of the reasons why I found this bio interesting:

Nicole Roma is married to Adam Thurrell. Adam Thurrell is the son of Robert and Lynn Thurrell, former teachers at Hyde School (Bath, Maine). In the mid-1970s, Bob Thurrell raped a former classmate of mine and got away with it. Bob and Lynn went on to teach elsewhere, typical of the way things are done in programs, as you all know. A Waldorf School, if I recall correctly. (Hyde School gave the couple a teaching award a few years ago, for their great and lifelong dedication.)

During the time period when Nicole Roma was at ALE (Saranac Lake, NY), Adam Thurrell was living in Lake Placid, NY, a neighboring town. I have to wonder just how much interaction he had with ALE, given that that kind of venture (backpacking out into the wild) is right up his alley.[/list]

Dove (the OP) went to Adirondack Leadership Expeditions, and later ended up at Hyde.
