I remember when Pride was around. It got started because a few parents, like Mrs. Hill, needed something to blame for their child's difficulties. In the fall of '84 there was a big drug scandal amongst the children of Mount Royal and Elbow Park attending Western. It was just kids smoking cannabis oil, but by the time Hamnett Hill got kicked out of school for a minor drug offense about two years later, the atmosphere was ripe for the bored mothers and compliant fathers to create a drug bugbear. It's interesting to read Mrs. Neil's account of her son forcing another child to drink urine. That used to be called being a prick, not a drug addict. It made sense back then, and makes sense today: Don't believe the hype!
