Who Is Michael Beavers?
Ursus:
Michael Beavers was the owner of the now defunct Ashby Academy.
Prior to starting Ashby, he attempted to make a go of things in New Hampshire. Namely:
For the past year, Beavers has been trying to open a similar type of school in Dublin, N.H. on the grounds of the former Beech Hill Hospital, a substance abuse treatment facility. Beavers had bought the hospital in 1996 and sank $3 million in into improvements. However, he was forced to close the hospital in 2001 after the state threatened to revoke the facility’s license.
In 2004, he presented town officials with plans to open a co-educational private school for junior high and high school aged students. Those plans stalled earlier this year when the Dublin Zoning Board of Adjustment denied his request for a variance needed to operate a business within 1,500-feet of Dublin Lake and a special exception to run school in a rural zone.
Beavers has since appealed that decision to the New Hampshire Superior Court and says he has not abandoned plans for a school in Dublin.

According to the Ashby Academy website, he relocated to New England from the Washington, D.C. area:
Owner/CEO
Mike Beavers is an attorney and financier who has owned and operated several large psychiatric facilities. Most recently relocating from the Washington, D.C. area, Mike had the vision of opening a unique school where young boys with challenges could receive an outstanding education. Motivated by his own personal experiences and those of his son, Mike founded Ashby Academy. Mike and his wife Lynn reside at the school with his youngest daughter Elizabeth.

Googling Michael Beavers I came across a legal doc pertaining to a buyer-seller dispute and how it evolved into potential mail irregularities. Other details of this doc were, however, of even greater interest to me:

INITIAL DECISION
This mail dispute has been docketed pursuant to Postal Operations Manual (POM 9, July 2002) Section 616.21, which requires the Chief Field Counsel to forward certain unresolved mail disputes to the Judicial Officer for resolution. The mail in dispute is that addressed to Piedmont Behavioral Health Center, at P.O. Box 2547, Leesburg, VA 20177. The Leesburg Postmaster is currently holding the mail.
Both parties filed sworn written statements, as required by the Rules of Practice, 39 C.F.R. §965.5, accompanied by other supporting documents, and both filed rebuttal, as permitted by 39 C.F.R. §965.6. In his rebuttal, Mr. Beavers asked for an oral hearing, in accordance with 39 C.F.R. §965.8. As I find no material facts in dispute that would require the examination of witnesses, that request is denied. The following findings of fact are based on all the material submitted by the parties, including that forwarded by the United States Postal Service Law Department, Mid-Atlantic Office.
FINDINGS OF FACT
1. Beginning in April 1998, Michael Beavers was the principal owner of Piedmont Behavioral Health Center, LLC (Piedmont), which operated a residential treatment facility at 42009 Victory Lane, Leesburg, Virginia. Its good to see people motivated by struggles within their own family to try to help others. We need more people like this guy instead of the large corporations.

His son has dyslexia. Not quite the same ballgame as running an RTC or substance abuse facility, which is where his prior experience lies. Draw your own conclusions.
I suspect Alfred Allen was the real mover and shaker behind Ashby. He is at least appears to be sufficiently credentialed, experienced, and has moreover, adopted 3 kids with disabilities who have managed to make it to adulthood without incident (that we know of).
Alfred Allen, Ph.D.
Dr. Allen‘s career spans thirty years. He has dedicated his professional career to the education and treatment of children with emotional, behavioral and learning disorders. Dr. Allen holds a Ph.D. in clinical sociology and social psychology from Dartmouth College. As a certified Learning Disabilities Specialist, he spent 10 years at Eagle Hill School, a premier school for children with learning disabilities. Dr. Allen has been the founding headmaster of three highly successful schools for children with LD and other disorders: Larkin Road School, Hunter School, Granite Hill School. His expertise and the respect of his colleagues made him the natural choice to be the founding Headmaster of Ashby Academy. In collaboration with Dr. Andrew Connery, Dr. Allen created the Pro-Social Development Plan which is one of the cornerstones of the Ashby Academy. He is a frequent presenter at professional meetings and conferences. Dr. Allen is also the father of three, adopted, adult children with disabilities.

I have absolutely no clue, to tell you the truth, about Dr. Allen, but his background seems a great deal less ominous than Michael Beavers'. I wouldn't at all be surprised if it came out that a philosophical dispute entered into all of this. Whatever.

Further affirmation of Michael Beavers' transition from Virginia/DC area to New Hampshire. Here is a letter from the State of NH (NHDES), sent to Michael Beavers' Virginia address regarding his having corrected a previous health code violation at Beech Hill Hospital. The Virginia address is the same P.O. Box inspiring such ire between buyer and seller noted a few posts previous, albeit at least half a year prior to the aforementioned sale.
