A former Elan 3 student and a pal of mine landed in that place in Utah after she left Elan. I heard it was pretty bad. Barbed wire, locked dorrs, the whole 9 yards. I wonder if the joint had GM's and VR's.
Right down the street from the hospital in my city (Bridgeport) is a "Daytop" facility. A few weeks back it was very warm out and my boyfriend and I were at the stop sign on the corner of the street. We heard all this out of control yelling. He actually turned around and stopped infront of the place trying to see if it was really from there. We went along side of it and heard it. It must of been a group because no one sweared like that in VR's. He was dumbfounded. I told him I was in that type of joint when I was 14 and he could not believe it was legal to yell at kids under 18 like they were the scourge of the earth. I said "Baby you better believe it. You could NOT begin to imagine what was legal in that dump!"
This facility from what I have seen has a seperate section for adults and adolescents.
Poor, poor kids. The adults are another story. A majority of them are there in place of prison or as a last ditch effort in getting clean once and for all. Everyone else gave up on them getting clean and sober Daytop won't will they?

Elan is a spin off of Daytop. Joe Ricci went to Daytop and got most of his ideas from them and then formed elan. All the concept came from Daytop, sign's, vr's, gm's, ect. The hi yuh yuh's came from Marty at a later time.
