--- Quote from: ""Guest"" ---Dear Ginger, Tech support, Scarlet Chiclet,

Some joker on the Hyde School forum is posting pornography. It's actually much worse than that. First he posted on this page:

http://fornits.com/wwf/viewtopic.php?t= ... 3363beb7e5

When he didn't get any reaction he posted again on this page:

http://fornits.com/wwf/viewtopic.php?p=288711#288711

I don't think anyone it appreciates it. If you watch even ten seconds of it you'll know what I mean. Could you remove it from the forum and warn the guy that he'll be banned from using the forum if that, hopefully, is is the rule.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Someone who has enjoyed reading Fornits until now.

A good tip is to just ignore any random looking links. if the thread is on GAO hearings and somebody posts a link with some random sounding title like lemon party it is bound to be the trolling of some retarded boy with  an ax to grind so skim right over it. good Luck

Che Gookin:
What about those people who make vile character attacks on others via anon status?

Maybe we should ignore them also.

hanzomon4:
It may also help if we see something offensive, or troll bait, that we want to respond to by just quoting the post and starting a new thread in the Open Free For All forum to keep it from taking over a good thread.

3xsaSeedling:
Y'all rock... :nworthy:

Thanks for the directions, patience, and for the reassurance

--- Quote from: ""Scarlett Chiclet"" ---Ok, I haven't got time now to find the Gook's words of wisdom on user blocking. Wish I did. But as to the porn content, I don't usually edit other people's posts unless they request it or at least give their ok. We don't make editorial decisions we just keep the site up so that each user can make their own calls. There's a whole lot of content on here that I find to be far more offensive than pornographic images. Sometimes I argue against it when I have the itch and the time but I don't make any attempt to control the content. And trying to ban someone is an exercise in futility even if it were a worthwhile endeavour, which I do not believe it to be. Generally, when the opposition comes out with porn, spam, ad hominem attacks then you know you've won the argument.

You might consider a cost-benefit analysis.

Benefits: it's pro-free speech to let the porno poster post away. Free speech is great, and we've been taught that it's what makes America a great country. After all, free speech is what protects our right to post on Fornits in the first place. So we are inclined not to limit our freedom of speech, and this overides all other considerations.

On to the costs: The porno poster sabotages free speech. It's hard to keep a serious discussion going in the face of his visual or textual onslaughts. He uses free speech to ambush free speech, like a terrorist uses democracy to ambush democracy.

There's the one bad apple spoils the bunch effect. The porno poster makes the rest of the Fornits community look like a bunch of crazies.

The porno poster drives away not only those unfamiliar with the programs who come here for information and perspective, but also Fornits members who don't care to be subjected to smut either.

Where there's too much liberty, there's inequality. That's the case here. The porn is what we remember. Undeservedly. And at the cost of much good discussion. Any idiot can purchase fame by posting pornography, or by pulling a trigger for that matter.

For what it's worth, I think he should be banned from the discussion.
